There'd be less stigma attached if the word "Problem" wasn't used when describing a Mental Health "Problem"... They should call them Mental Health Advantages.
From an 18 year old student who doesn't view his Mental Health "Problem" as a problem, but as an Advantage.
I think educating children about mental health is a good way to go - it's harder to change people's prejudice than stop them forming through ignorance in the first place
"I have no criminal record. I am a victim of others. Not self inflicted or deserved as with most you will find."
Is the source of all MH stigma & Discrimination. & this is not being addressed with this Campaign - the idea that people are to blame for their Mental Illness.
Don't delude yourself that this campaign will work - it won't. & your attitude is indicative of why it won't.
Although I have had a negatice experience from many involved in the Mental Health system and MIND who r involved with this campaign. As a survivor of child abuse with mental health problems. It is the very reason this campaign needs to suceed. For all of our sakes. Those with and without mental health issues. The biggest being our treatment. I have no criminal record. I am a victim of others. Not self inflicted or deserved as with most you will find. Help and support. Not discrimination please.
Totally inspiring! Way to go! I teach a class in Mental Health and will likely use some of your stuff. My students are doing anti stigma work as well.
Having the opportunity to ride on this tram for the two days was an inspiring experience, we weren't preaching to the converted, there were some pretty entrenched views to be challenged! However the people of Sheffield were so open in discussing their own experiences of Mental Health and Stigma and how it had affected their lives which was heartening!
How true...the experience of stigma and discrimination can be much worse than the symptoms of the mental health problem itself. And those symptoms can be very scary. Keep up the good work.
