Green baby, I've loved you since the early 80s, but PLEASE--and I fully realize the debatable existential/philosophical import of what I'm about to say---PLEASE lose the mustache & beard, grow out & bleach your hair, and get back together with David Gamson and Fred Maher. Together the three of you created a singular and incomparable magic that is dearly missed on today's bleak musical horizon. Just do it for the fans... and you can be your current 'real' self off on the side :)
@1Nickyduncan Eat your f*cking door & if you want to know what else I think of u, come meet me on my page. Hurry, I'm about to block you. I've had it with your ignorance, mythomania, xenophobia & homophobia.
@1Nickyduncan I won't reply to your whole message since it's not worth it, but have you thought of anger management?
I'll do say smth about the last line though, as you already accused me of being stuck in the 80s. I'm neither a nostalgic fag or a thick fat woman (that's a very narrow way of seeing SP fans btw). I'm a very thin straight music fan, with a preference for 80s music (BUT not only). Period! Also, there's nothing wrong with gays.
@1Nickyduncan What are you going on about? I haven't seen all the interviews, but did he, himself, say he has AIDS? Btw, he's straight. And tons of guys with beards are straight (just as many as gay guys, if not more).
Btw, you say ''great band' & ''awesome', but also ''not the music''. Is it a syntax problem or are you unsure about your feelings for the music?
PS: yeah, I read your uncalled for personal attack on my page & I'll answer it. Also, I think I've been civil, plz try to be as well.
@1Nickyduncan Respect doesn't seem to be your strong suit, but plz treat me with respect as I will.
Usually, people don't like to see someone they admire beeing bashed and trashed on YouT page, which begs the question: why not move on & say nothing?
Why call him a cunt? What's he done to you?
You say you can do the same, why don't you show us, out of curiousity? I could be nasty with you as I find what you wrote really disrespectful for everybody, but I'm not being nasty. Plz be courteous.
Wonderful song. His voice is truly something. I'm still trying to figure out how his talking voice sounds nothing like his singing voice. He can really hit those high registers.
@pmsan29 His talking voice was different in the 80s too. What's amazing to me is that he could hit those high notes in the 80s & he still can (as high as back then??), yet your voice deepens as you age.
Also, in the 80s, I was 200% sure that his voice was somehow sped up in the mixing since it was so high. Now I know it prolly wasn't most of the time. But occasionally??? Think of A Little Knowledge (I know there's a girl in there), but his own voice is just so high. ALK is just an example btw.
@vancanman2 At first it was a shock for me too. Now I think the opposite. He's aged like we all do, but in his case & for his age, he looks quite young. Fashion wise, he's left the 80s behind, kind of normal..
He's still thin, has all his hair, but a few wrinkles round the eyes. The real revelation would be for him to get rid of that ugly beard, then we'd know for sure.
What makes him different from then is the 80s clothes, longer hair & no ugly facial hair. He was born in 55!!!! Looks amazing!
Just had a scritti politti day, full blast in a brand new transit up and down the A30 with their 80s stuff on the stereo. Breathtaking work, really buzzing on it.
A fantastic talent and the whole band. Just so much better than all the shit out there (Lady Gaga) etc. Marilyn Manson what shit it all is. This guy is a real musician. Crafted quality work....
I'm not feeling this AT ALL. WHAT HAPPENED to his suave voice? It is too high! Man, this bites. Go back to how you USED to sing, PLEASE~!!!! I still love you. The new looks is good too.
@warrengonline The way he used to sing? You could barely understand what he was saying in his lyrics, even on their biggest hit, Perfect Way. As much as I like Perfect Way and Boom! There She Was, you can actually understand every word he's saying here. I appreciate this more. I'd love to see him perform those 2 songs now and I bet he would sound a lot clearer than when they originally released those singles.
That was his real voice - who knew!! I thought the Anomie & Bonhomie album was also a great album - for someone who's not into rap at all (me) I really enjoyed his take on it. Quite an old album now but well worth it.
I looked at some of these comments below....about how he hasnt aged so well.....Hes not 22 anymore... and the last time i looked in the mirror.. i wasnt 22 either...i didnt age so well either but he was soo good
Green Shave that grizzly Adams off your face and grow just a touch of hair... it looks like wool.... He does looked a wee bit worked on but oh man......
'Undetermined, inessential, I am calling you...' Only Green can successfully walk the fine line between smart and smart-alec, and stay on the right side with such elegance. I love his work.
I also love the ambition of this song: might not be obvious, but as freefrench comments below, the multi-part harmony stuff modulating over several key changes is not yer standard stuff. How cool for the band to even attempt this live. Great live band, this outfit - they got the funk!
sorry i thought you meant that you had to buy scritti cds that maybe you didnt have before, meaning your household finances had taken a battering because of all the money you had to shell out buying there stuff! i dont think hes on about debt as such,i know hes saying about losing there home, but therell be something good about me soon, basically im not a loser although im losing, and well get through this eventually, sun mealts snow, worries sometimes mealt away too
if green is watching this, your still as shit hot as you were,im still in love with your songs, your the most beautiful voice ive ever heard in my life,i wish you well, and hope i meet you one day, love lots xxx
your entitled to your own opinion, have you seen snow fall when the sun is in the sky,its beautiful.this is a song reflecting those feelings,to a loved one.
I like their early stuff, but this was ridiculously over-hyped. It was dull, dull, dull. And they sound like a pub band who play with all the gusto of people playing 'elevator' music.
As one of the people responsible, I can only say that the opening of that tune is a bitch to sing, we'd barely soundchecked, and we were all shaking with nerves. We usually nail it, but sadly the one version on YouTube is the one where we balls it up. Oh well :)
Don't think you balls'd it up at all...you all sound in key and harmonise well...p.s. you lucky think being part of it - which pub did he recruit you from? I'll have to move there! (had a bit of a crush on him when a lot younger!).
The White Bread album for me was very disappointing. Cupid and Psyche was probably one of the defining albums of the 80's. The remixes were awesome!! I was chuffed when he brought out the Anomie & Bonhomie because it was the first RAP album that I actually liked and had a great groove.
Green had the worst stagefright. I don't even think he toured to promote Cupid & Psyche at least not in the US. Too bad because it was and still is one of the most brilliant records of the 80s in my opinion.
He doesn't have that bad of stagefright anymore. He's done quite of bit of touring off of last years album which this song came from, White Bread, Black Beard. Look for a new album in 2009!
I naively thought I was the only person that still liked Scritti. Glad to see I'm not alone. Still hanker after the sound of Cupid & Psyche though - an absolute classic
He's brilliant, I read. He's also NORMAL. He's got more than one side to him, like normal human beings.
I can relate to him because I grew up listening to him coming from Hip Hop 198x. Kids around my way were able to connect because we were influenced by so much and the industry hadn't sold us out to misogeny and homophobia yet. So we were onto a LOT and Scritti was one of those things.
He collaborated with Mos Def a handful of years ago and produced a hip hop album that was ok.
A decent performance, given that he used to suffer acute stagefright. 'Snow In Sun' was an odd choice of promo single though - the far rockier 'Dr Abernathy' would have been far better. Green's still absolutely gorgeous, I fell hopelessly in love with this man in 1984. He still has a beautiful voice. Sound a tad different to the old style but still lovely. "In the attic"...ha ha ha!!! Jool's face was a picture!

Very funny - he looks exactly like my old art teacher! None of which prevents him and his current music from being as wonderful as he/it first was in the late 70s. Green, you're the champ! New album please... I
