In 2007 after the July 4 holiday, San Diego beach cleanup volunteers collected 9,000 pounds of trash and 20,000 cigarette butts. A cigarette butt weighs 0.00767 ounces. 20,000 buts weigh 10 pounds, the weight of a house cat.
You say they'll do anything to make it as as difficult as possible for a person to have a legal cigarette and you're definitely not kidding. Here's what your Mayor Bloomberg had to say a few weeks ago: "This city is not walking away from our commitment to make it as difficult and as expensive to smoke as we possibly can."
