I recently started to work in the NY and NJ area as an Inspector and specially in this Terminal I never thought this happened. Most of the KMI's Terminal are very strict about safety... but all we know that been long enough doing inspections that all depends on are actions, take just a second to ground your probe or tape. Hope and pray to GOD this never happen again. Don't know the causes of the explotion but for sure was not the recovery vapor system. All Terminal has them
Really sad. I'm an inspector in Texas City and work a lot of the cbob ocean-going barges in Bp. Tragic stuff. Did they really not have vapor recovery?
gas build up on the deck? i remember doing ship detail in the gulf and you can tsmell it but sensors go off an dyou shit yourself hoping it dont go up in hell
I lived 2 blocks away from this when it happened. This sucker was LOUD when it blew up, shook my bed & woke me up, I thought someone's car ran into my house. I saw black smoke & my first thought was terrorists attacked NY but realized the smoke was too close. Scary day.
this kinda shit pops in tha back of my mind everytime we go on dock to load static electricity is a muthafucka thats why i only do three rounds on all my tank to load sloa and avoid friction and shit
Bouchard may have some of the best equipment made, but forget going home and the whole fired and rehired every few weeks really sucks... And all the other NY tug companys run a 24/7 office so thats bullshit.
First of all...Im Morty Bouchard IV my dad runs the company its been a family company for over 80 years the largest oil marine company in the coutry and the only one that runs 24/7 work hours...so anyone who talks shit just shut up cause u dont know the reall reason behind this and why it happened.
Really? Let me guess two Tankerman died in the accident. After the investigation it was due to one lighting up a ciggarette. Yeah it was in Water Way Journal after it happened. Only one that runs 24/7? Exxon, Shell, Citgo etc the list goes on...Quit trying to sound important, thats a lie son, you obviously have NO idea about the refineries down in TX, LA, CA or in WA. I'm a tankerman that loads and discharges these barges. Grow up and quit trying to get attention
Hey morty bouchard so u call ur self sorry to say but Bouchard is not the largest oil marine company in the country u dont even work for Bouchard the large company in the country is called Kirby inland marine out of channelview texas how do i know that i worked for them the run the mississippi ohio great lakes gulf intercoastal waterways and the east and pacific coast u guys only run new york and east coast so get your fact right there un incompatent piece of crap
Thank you for correcting morty. Kirby is the larest tank barge company by far. There is none even close. They have over 2000 barges and 250+ boats, not including their charters. Boushard is also not the only one that work 24/7. Every single company in the maritime idustry works 24/7. If your dad owns the company, well I guess its safe to say that you wont be the one to take over when he retires....
It blew up on the New Jersey side of the Arthur Kill, I live a good 5 minutes from Sewaren. When it exploded the windows in my class room at school shattered.
what was left of that barge sat over there by rossville for a while I use to tie up over there i think it was only the stern they did away with it though
Bouchard B-125 had about 75,000 bbl of gas left on it........ you can still see all the burnt dockspace down at port mobil/kmi staten island. NEVER WORK FOR MORTY BOUCHARD.
It was a faulty pump BEARING that overheated.
