@CFCShame this song was written by William McPeake, a Belfast man...The Braes of Balquhidder by Robert Tannahill which is the song william mcpeake took "inspiration" from is scottish but this version is actually irish song.
@tesom214 Which is exactly why Youtube is saturated with Scottish stuff that is simply re-branded as 'Irish' because the Irish constantly seem to copy and take much of it's inspiration from Scotland, which leads to Plastic Paddies wrongly uploading Scottish stuff as Irish more generally than would otherwise be.
it was written by Francis McPeake from Belfast (so wikipedia says), although based on a Scottish song/poem (not sure which). There are loads of Scottish descendants in this part of the north of Ireland, who still feel proud of their Scottish roots - Ulster-Scots/Scots-Irish. Also the people performing this version of the song here are Irish, as far as I know...
so i went down wildwood NJ for Irish weekend and had an awesome time as usual. but this time i met an awesome girl..the kind of girl you probably only meet once in a life time. Maybe it was the drinks or the music..or the good times all around but her smile just seemed to light up the room. she said her name was christine smith, from dublin. she hung out all night i got drunk and went to bed hoping to wake up to see her again. sadly she had left already... wish that lassie had stayed.live4today
I saw them live in Ireland last december, totaly awsome. then afther their concert i got to talk to them. They are the most nice people i have ever met. And to top it all, the next day i met Finnbar at a coffeshop, He seemed to remember me and my company. (Hopefully in a possitiv way cos i had quit a few guiness and jamesons all true that day befor the concert) anyway, they were the highlight of my trip to Ireland. Hope they can do a concert in Holland one day.

@joebloggs139 I agree they are the most weather beaten of all races. Having spent some time in the shit hole I think they like the poverty imposed on them by the English. Its just another washed up country like Argentina. Who fucking cares
Wild Mountain Thyme was written by William Mc peak and finished by his son Francis, The song is not a scottish song it's an Irish song. William Mc Peak was from Belfast and as the ulster scotch dialect is so close to scottish its a common mistake to think the song is scottish. It most certainly is not.

@starfell86 But yeah, I always thought it was Scottish, so maybe it should say Scottish in the tags too!

I know there are many versions of this song, but they all bring tears to my eyes. Listen with love in heart. (Try the Corries rendition) x

I just recently discovered this song on Pandora and it is my new obsession. Love this band and plan on purchasing all their music :)
This is soul music.
