This immortal song was the work of Lee Mavers, his band was called the La's. And he's the most talented songwriter of his generation. There's a very big and very devoted cult following for the La's, who never became famous because of the madness/genius of Lee Mavers.

the original singer of this song is "the La's". youtube their version, it's much nicer than the sixpence cover.
