Sure wish that I could be a Sailor AND a Corpsman on a shore tour simultaneously. Being Male it's like you get one and that's it and it's with the Marines...No offense, I love Marines.
If u dont like doing ur job, then smoke some weed, piss test and get a beautiful "big chicken dinner"! You and ur comments are weak. Just go home and sleep in peace knowing that there are Marines and Corpsmen doing the job of keeping You safe.
Oh yeah, BTW, FMF Corpsmen are NOT "wanna be Marines", we answer the call of "Corpsman Up" when it is made. That is our duty and, might I say, our honor.
With respect to a fellow corpsman. Call ur detailer and get out! An attitude like that will get ur Marines killed in the field! Do yourself, but MORE IMPORTANTLY, do the Marines a favor and get out of ur billet. You apparently dint have the heart for it. Be safe shipmate and until u do go elsewhere, keep ur Marines safe.
8404, 0000 HN here, and being a corpsman has its perks, but being stuck in a crapy place like Camp Lejeune sucks. "yeah cool you get to be with the marines" so what, everyone wants to be FMF corpsman, but no one want to put up with the 4 musters a day with the marines, field day like a OCD. My advice for a future HM, join and try to stay in the blue side, and do a real navy life, not a 'want to be marine'. If you wanted to me a marine you should of joined the marines.
I worked side by side with Navy Respiratory Therapists for 3 years at NMCSD (Balboa) and these guys are simply the best!! I'm an old Marine and I'd trust these guys with my life. Smart, motivated and top of the line they are...and they are all trained FIRST as basic Navy Corpsmen. FYI, there are more Medal of Honor recipients amongst the ranks of Army Medics and Navy Corpsmen. These are heroes. Semper Fi, Navy!!! OOO RAH!!!
@zapeti1235 just know the advancement for HM is really bad. You have to work in a hospital for the first 2 years doing paper work and other equally boring BS...
Are you kidding me? I have NEVER seen a woman period hold their wieght in our hospital corpsman community. Who's butt has she been kissing, cause as a REAL HM you dont have the luxury to go to jump school. Where do they find these people? You will go to FMTB, you will go to the Marines unless you have a C-school that prevents you from going. Its crap like this that pisses me off, she is not a real corpsman she is a freaken joke!
wait a second..... where's the part where she mentioned that you would go to afghanistan with marines and get shot at and not shower for 60 days straight? oh never mind.. she didn't add that part.
@blazinazn608 because a majority of the time if you are a corpsman, you're gonna be FMF at some point in your career. i can guarantee it. now i've only been a corpsman for 5 years but i've never seen (or even heard of) a female dive med tech (or with jump wings, let alone both). As divemedIDC has stated, women usually can't hold their own weight. sorry ladies. not hating on women on any means, it's just how it is.
Through my entire 20+ years as a Navy diver/dive med tech/IDC, I have NEVER SEEN a woman (unfortunately) hold their weight (physically or intellectually) within this community. She does have a nice tan though!
To be a corpsman, does one must actually graduates from college taking medical major degree? Or he/she can enlist and will learn all the essentials when in the Job School( A School) and FMSS at the Navy?
@CaptainGaruda i'm in corpsman A school right now and i just graduated high school last year. you dont need any previous medical or college experience. they teach you alot in A school and theres always a possibility to get a C school.
I am certain. The last class in Great Lakes will graduate July 11, 2011. So you will be going to METC in Fort Sam. Google it and read about it. Good luck future shipmate.
I'm leaving 20111115 and after basic going to a-school to be a HM. I'm so excited :) plus I heard HM a-school is now at METC at Fort Sam, TX (closing Great Lakes a-school).
@hiphoptoto How do you know she doesn't skydive. It is not mentioned in the video. I sky dived in the Navy. I was a Navy Test Parachutist. We skydived all the time.
@ChewWowWow because of her pin, the pin that she has is a parachutists pin the skydiving (HALO) pin is a dagger with wings. Im just saying she isnt a qualified skydiver, she just static lines
@hiphoptoto It may have changed, but when I was in the Navy, there were only two types of jump wings. basic and gold. Basic jump wings were for 5 jumps, static line or free fall, did not matter, Gold were for 10 jumps. I had 36 when I tore my leg up. I was scheduled to do high speed high altitude out of a Navy A-3 (AF B-66). It did not matter if I did, I would still wear gold jump wings not a HOLO pin. I do not think the Navy has a HALO pin. I agree, she probably does not sky dive.
@hiphoptoto The navy doesn't wear the HALO pin thats an army thing, and you are right she is not HALO qual because you have to have 10 jumps before you can even be consider to go to the school. Unless you're NSW, and trust me she is not NSW.
@TheDocmonte....Yes they do some special warfare community members go to the army jump school, they earn it there. I have seen and spoken with Marine Recon Corpsmen, that is one of the many ways to get it
Dang it, I hate being a corpsman! They didn't teach us anything in corps school! One more year to go and then I'll finally be able to put in for a better rate!
@xobmw Like I said, they didn't really teach us anything, because once I got out to my first duty station, they basically had to re-teach us through OJT, and then I got thrown under the bus on my first eval by the pukes in my chain of command because they said I didn't know anything. And corpsmen are always talking smack about everyone behind their backs, so it's really more stress than it's worth.
