Spartan Youth Radio intereviewed Mother Mother vocalist/guitarist Ryan Goldemond about the band and their upcoming album. Google Spartan Youth Radio to listen to the interview or find us on iTunes podcasts.
Some of the stuff he says is so deep and intelligent. In vancover ur more part of nature the natural form of life you look around u and see art all the time. In toronto its so urban and people are almost lost from themselves and there minds feel that need to express and they can express it through creation of art.
its odd how ryan's voice is deep when he speaks normally but when singing his voice is often confused for a female. Much like the same with Silversun Pickups lead singer. And Molly's voice is high pitched but when singing its very soothing and low. Great band though.
I also think there can be a huge lack of respect from the Canadian music industry for Vancouver acts. Dark Blue World, Parlour Steps, Shelley O'Brien, Fuzzcat, Blackberry wood, Maria In the Shower, The Pack AD, Circus In Flames, Cinderpop, Dreadnougts, Los Furios.... All undeniably fine acts that make me say "Wake Up, Canada. Vancouver has good acts too."
Yes, the music scene in Vantown does need work. I've been saying that for years. There's tons of amazing acts but the town is sorely lacking in pushing its talent outside its tiny bubble. I promote the hell out of it. I've also been playing Mother Mother since their original debut album came out, when they were just called Mother. I had them in to play live a while back and one of the songs they performed was "Hayloft". Performed live, on-air a year before the "O My Heart" album was released.
Oh my heart BLOWS EUREKA out of the water, I'm not impressed at all by their last album, JMO anyway.

@xXxNandoGuyxXx Michael Stipe (REM) and Tom Petty are other good examples of dudes that speak in a really low voice, but sing high.
