you are right for sure I have watched my uncles dogs which are bassets I know they howl when someone leaves cause they don,t want to be alone as well.
Do you guys realize that dogs howl because the frequency from sirens, music or someone singing is hurting their ears? When they howl they are in pain, it is not a "cute" thing.
@OjaiRoy did you know that some dogs HOWL when on the hunt and get a scent of things they do not always or only howl because of pain....just like dogs eat grass when sick..they eat it because they like it...
@michiganpitbull Thanks for the info on howling when hunting. But I think most of the time when someone is singing (many times off key) just a few inches from a dog's sensitive ear, it is hurtful to the dog. I hope that at the next howling event people will try to see it from my point of view and then see what they think. I feel so sad for these dogs that are in unnecessary pain.
@OjaiRoy it's not really as bad as you think i'm a vet tech it doesn't bother them it triggers something in the dog from generations before them they howl because they can recognize the pitch and respond to it..take a look at newborn babies and the 5's when a baby is crying you loudly sshhhh them in the ear it looks and sounds mean at first but it does calm baby, dogs are rarely in pain because of the pitch, they make dog whistles because dogs can here it and they respond well to it;-)
If you know Bassets then you know that cooperation is not their strong suit. A bit into the video she tries to isolate the different competitors with varying degrees of success.
We were raising money for the Basset Rescue. So the contest will probably get us into the Guiness World Book of Records

@michiganpitbull Okay, thanks for setting my mind at ease a little bit. But I still won't attend howling contests. Thanks again.

Looks like a fun time for all, but I couldn't tell who was howling.
