  • Are there more than one model of the Brunswick 101 phonograph? I have a version of Brunswick, but the arm is at the top with a fold down front cabinet.

  • Simply great. Such a pleasure to hear. Many thanks for posting this recording.

  • Cool song.

  • While inferior to todays recording & playback tech, there's a delicious charm in the sound that that '20's tech produced!

  • Oh, how much wood could a woodchuck chuck

If a woodchuck could chuck wood

If he held a saw in his little paw

A ton of wood he could

  • I loved it had to add it to my favorite list

  • I love this song, and the band. I have a few of their records. I absolutely love your Gramophone!!

  • Jessee, I'm pleased you enjoyed it. This is a very fun recording. Thanks for watching.

    Regards, J.

  • The continual surface noise to the very end, was due to (1) the playing surface not being mirror-smooth at pressing, and (2) age & decay. A scratch filter like Goldtone would clean up playback, but I really don't like the sound of such. An exception is the THRILLING "Auld Lang Syne" by Stanley. His enrapturiing singing makes you forget that the re-recording was scratch-filtered.

I played it on "Archives.Org", but that site went funny on my laptop.

  • There was a movie made in 1952 called Has Anybody Seen My Gal. It had a lot of songs from the 20's in it. I remember Charles Coburn, the great character actor, sitting in jail singing this song. For some reason I havn't seen this on TCM cable.

  • George, I'll have to look for that one. I always enjoy Charles Coburn.

    Regards, J.

  • There are so many words to this song: OH I took My girl out golfing, We had a lot of fun, She wore Her new silk stockings and, She got a hole in one.

  • This is one of the songs that I knew as a kid, and just as you said, George, it had many different verses, depending on who was singing it—only the refrain stayed the same! What a fun song, though. — MordEth

  • George, It is a fun one with some wonderful variations. Glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for watching.

    Regards, J.

  • Great vid, J! Thanks.

  • Phonophan79, Thank you, glad you enjoyed it.

    Regards, J.

  • Another great recording from Brunswick!

    Who is singing?

Sounds like Billy Jones & Ernest Hare...

  • Paal1994, I don't know-possibly. I'll have to ask around. Glad you enjoyed it. Thank you. Regards, J.

  • Paal, you are correct it is Jones and Hare. Recorded Jan 25, 1924 on matrices 12382, 83, and 84. YF, J.

  • I have updated the descriptive accordingly....

  • I did not the reply before now!

Jones and Hare made some fantastic recordings.

They are among my favorite singers.

    YF, Paal1994

  • Paal1994, That's alright. Thanks for the impetus to research the info. YF, J.

  • Are all the labels with the white and black/blue acoustic, or is the pat. pending and label one and the us reg. pat office another. Wondered if you knew, i just ended up with a couple of brunswicks.

  • Bing, IIRC this label was replaced in 1924, so all would be acoustic. Brunswicks of this vintage are generally fantastic sounding records. Regards, J.

  • To a nice record on a nice player!!! Holland doesn't have such sort of players...

  • Holland..., Brunswick made some very nice machines. I hope someday to get a nice Brunswick upright. Regards, J.
