Incredible, Just when you thought some few surviving minutes of a live Love Supreme on film was all that was, THIS turns up. There has to be be some god out there - or a sadist collector. Or both.
@kostihouse as Miles Davis put it: life and music are all about style. It's boring because you don't get it so you can't evaluate it properly. Plus Love Supreme is pretty abstract. Try listening to something more conventional and closer to your ear for starters.
You need to develop an ear for Jazz, especially this kind. This is so totally foreign to most people because it is based on a mode rather than a chord progression. Better to start out with something closer to home, like Coltrane's "Favorite Things".
Once you get jazz, it's way more interesting than anything else because when you hear the solos, you know what's in the musician's heart and mind, and it will be different every time you hear the song, even played by the same person.
This is the best Coltrane, when he had a little of Miles and a little of Charlie Parker and added something completely new and different. A real genius
@JGPointAndShoot well, if it is approached with no point of reference it is easy to miss the nuances that make it great. somewhat akin to trying to appreciate a great literary work written in a language that one doesn't speak.
one must at least posess a certain sensitivity to be attracted to it.
@JO11190 I generally believe that music is subjective, and that you are allowed to like whatever you want, and that there is no "right" or "wrong." But if you don't like "A Love Supreme," you're actually just wrong. Go listen to the recorded version, it's not as out there and might be more accesible the first time around hearing this piece.
amazing........love the LIVE look since I have only had the studio recording for years.... LIVE at the Festival Mondial du Jazz Antibes over in Juan-les-Pins, France. in my head I am chanting, deep and low like Coltrane, "A LOVE SUPREME"....a love supreme.... a love supreme.... (watching Jimmy G get funky and break it down in the background)

Was Jimmy Garrison just being funny or did the group not agree on where the downbeat was? Not that it really mattered, it's just interesting...

Probably one of the most influencial saxophonists of all time. Every Tenor Sax player wants his sound that he makes.

@mrhoffame As much as I love so much different music, A Love Supreme is the best LP ever made. Devine and a lot more than that.
