Both exactly the same power , M3 has more power / weight ratio 8.67 lb/hp R8 has 8.18 lb/hp. R8 has 4weel drive which is better in 1st gear but uses up extra power once moving at and decent speeed. The M3 is 4.0 litre NOT 3.0 as stated in this post. The video shows exactly what would be expected.

It's funny seeing people argue about European sports cars and only talking about the straight line. This result wasn't a surprise. Compared to the M3, the R8 has the horsepower, weighs slightly less, and is all wheel drive as opposed to rear. The M3 is a great car. The R8 is much better though, and the straight line doesn't tell the full story.

If that were true, then the 2011 Mustang will omgsmoke the M3 for less money. I think though, that we all know an M3 is much better than any Mustang...

Not really, The R8 is quite lighter than the R8, but the S65 in the BMW is what really makes it pull ahead... See that at first the Audi gets the advantage due to a lower revving engine, but then the BMW takes it away when it is close to the red line.

It isn't very torquey at all in the low revs, but the power output per litre in the M rivals Ferrari's F430.... That engine and the clutch is worn very fast though if used like that :(

Its because it weighs more than the m3 and only has 6hp on it, it kinda sucks that to get the performance out of it that you should, you need to get the V10 which is like 150k as opposed to 115k starting off for the v8. It should come with the v10 for 115k in my opinion, some where in the future.

The manual R8 is actually slower than the R-tronic at launch. The M3 in manual is merely a second slower than the R8 around the ring, so the M3 DKG will easily take the R8 out around a track. The "mighty" 5.2 FSI will be ridiculed by the F10 M5 with its 4.4L V8 at 555 HP, and thats an engine BMW built themselves with their 47 Engine of the Year Award winning expertise, not one that they borrowed from Lamborghini because their own shitty Audi TT V10 blew up their test car!!!
