  • I think people have gone crazy with twitting,

and texting and cell phones, it is just crazy. I am way to addicted to you tube as it is.

I also think doing all of this social networking has

not been good for getting our butts out of the house and doing some real face to face time with friends.. Good to see you two !!

    Love and Hugs,

    Lauren:)

  • You Tube is still our "drug of choice" too. LOL

Love and Hugs to you too!

  • I'm not doing any of that right now.....I'm watching two people that I dearly miss. No excuses, no bullshit, no I'm sorry's.....yes I've been gone a long long time but I know who I love and I know who I care about and even though I suck at showing it.....I hope you guys know it. I'm going to send an email with all my new info because my world has gone to hell in the last three months and I don't want to lose contact with you guys. you mean to much to me.

    I love you!

  • Appreciate it and you are surely missed. Understand about how things have been going. We don't want to lose contact either. Love you too.

  • Not only do I not tweet from the bathroom - I don't even take my phone there to talk to people while - er - well - you get the picture.

My main site is still YT. Though I tend to watch ever other day or so as not as many people are posting. The only site that combines my on-line and IRL community is Facebook. And bec of that, I limit how much stuff I put there. I don't want my world's colliding. Matter/anti-matter and all that.I ignore 90% of the stuff sent to me.

  • As far as twitter - I'm starting to feel like you. I like maintaining the connection and see what people are up to, but tired of seeing people usurp it as a two way chat between them. I guess we all have diff reasons why we join, and why we stay.

My e-mails at work are still pretty long - as some have pointed out - so I guess I'm OK :)

  • Long emails are fine, we like those. You're also not confined to 140 characters.

  • Good to know you're not on the phone while you're...ummm...well you know.

YT is still our main site also and we still check in daily and we think we may be about caught up, finally. Totally understand what you mean about worlds colliding.

  • Funny, my intro video for this new channel is basically the opening you did for this one.

The whole point of the new channel was to vlog about internet addiction and all these new social networking sites.

Soon as I get my vlogging mojo back that might actually happen.

My favorite thing about you is that you always tell it as you see it. That's what true friends do.

I don't Twit and probably never will, but then I said that about Facebook, too.

  • Great minds on the intros. LOL

Well, if you can't be straight with people, then how CAN you be friends? We feel it goes hand in hand.

Stormy doesn't do ANY of those sites. He is too busy still learning his way around YouTube. ;-)

  • I love seeing my friends/family's photos on Facebook! (I'll never give up my YT either.) I'm sharing photos and videos on FB. You don't have to use the applications. I feel like I have reconnected to a lot of old friends, and I think I go more places because I'm getting FB invitations to things like art shows by my friends, or to the theater where a friend is performing.

  • That is really cool that you have not only reconnected, but your life has been so enriched through it.

  • I've also reconnected with hundreds of old friends from my childhood in a small rural town where everyone knew everyone, and nobody ever used to move away. It's been fun because I've had friends from high school visit me on ski trips, and I never would have known they were coming here if not for FB. I wouldn't even know where they lived, or anything about them, and yet, I get to see them, and hang out again after decades have gone by! I can also more easily pester my friends from college!

  • I love FB, and found out some amazing things about my own life because of it. I found out a man I loved, told a friend that he loved me the night he died two decades or more ago. I found his son on FB, who I hadn't seen after his father's death, two decades ago. He is happily married, and expecting a child himself. It would have made his Dad so happy.

  • That is just amazing. It's great that you've been able to catch up with the son.

  • I enjoy Twitter with a few people a few times a day but I find Facebook kind of boring really. Honestly I joined because I have an international real life family that live across the world, from NZ, the US, the UK and some islands and they're into the "cross pollination" interaction. That's ok but I don't even consider the applications and only check in a couple of times a week. Ning sites don't do anything for me personally. To each his own I suppose.

    It is all about interaction.

  • Having FB to keep in touch with family around the world sounds like it could be a great way to do it. With family scattered around the world the likelyhood of everyone coming togther in one location would be difficult at best.

    Interaction is key.

  • I'm a reluctant FB user because it does mix family, personal friends offline and online friends and that can be a delicate balance. The payoff for me is connecting with my family scattered about.

Actually all the social web was a lot of fun for awhile but it did become demanding because some people do spend a lot of time on it, time I don't have, so I can't keep up.

There are a lot of ways to interact with people and the web is but one of them and I like variety.

  • Variety is the spice of life. :-)

    Nothing wrong with that.

  • I didnt think I would ever get a phone and now I cant leave it behind... I tweet and myspace and facebook and others... your right, I do go online way to much. I have met 2 people from school but it seems to me that they stayed the same and I have moved on... L♥ve it!! Great video!

  • Boy you ARE busy! That's more than we can handle. ;-)

Some people staying the same while one of their peers moves on seems to happen quite often.

Thanks for squeezing in time to watch and comment. LOL

  • I tried to get into Twitter but it just didn't happen for me...heheh YouTube is still my main one and I do Facebook. That is really all I can handle. I don't have time for anything else. Hell, I still write hand-written letters...so there ya go...hehehe Peace!

  • Handwritten letters rock! It's very hard to find stationary around here. When Sunny worked @ the Arts & Crafts store, women came in regularly looking for nice looking quality stationary. Most had sons or daughters in the Middle East and wanted to write real letters to them. Do they even make "sealing wax" anymore? There's nothing like fine linen stock. :-)

    Write-0n ! hehehe

  • Tweeting from the bathroom... it was called "twooping" at one point but I don't know if that stuck.

Thank you, I'm glad you got what my exit from Twitter was about. (I think that other muppet sitting next to you in the balcony is me, btw)

In some ways all this has improved my social life, but examples like that auto-horroscope stuff show the "holes in the system" as it were. Besides, 140 characters really isn't enough IMO and I get bored with text only communication after a while.

  • (part 2)

With my last (and seemingly final) round on Facebook, some of my friends outside of YouTube were mixing with the rest of you and nothing bad came of it, but I did notice some of these people who I've known for decades falling into a rut where they would ONLY respond on Facebook. I didn't care for that and it was one of a handful of signals that the whole thing wasn't for me after all.

When all this stuff REPLACES face-to-face interaction, it's gone too far.

  • Twooping...LOL love it!

Never heard of it, never will do it.

It sometimes seems that people think that reading posts on FB means that they are really interacting and friends. We hear people say it all the time that they have reconnected with people and they are good friends again because they read their posts. That doesn't really fit the bill of being a good friend to us.

  • (cont.)

The physical presence during communication is priceless. Whether it be actual face to face, or at the very least, in a forum such as Stickam or Skype where you can see them while you converse. At least there is more than just words in text.

You are someone whom Stormy has alot of respect for and have a great deal of similar opinions with. He is more than happy to have you in the balcony with him, jeering the world.

  • The respect is mutual.

And I'll gladly bring the popcorn (and tomatoes!)

    :-D

  • Hey y'all..I have put my foot in the YT waters now. So I don't know where that may go! Time will tell.

Twitter I started a couple months ago but..so far I'm a low tweeter.

Facebook I only keep in touch with my kids. It's great for that considering they are all over the country!

I like YT because I have met many wonderful ppl..like you and Oscar there. hehehe

Also I prefer YT over TV. It's a smorgasbord of ppl, thoughts, views, info culture music art poetry & the list goes on!

    HugZ sugars!

  • We're glad we finally get to see you. Hopefully you will be as fortunate as we have been and you'll be able to have some of the experiences we've had. I think we can honestly say that our YT experience has far-surpassed our original desire for a community to inter-act with.

We agree it is much more entertaining than TV.

We're happy to have met you and maybe some day we'll be able to meet you in person. Hugz back @ ya!

  • facebook has helped me stay in touch after ive just had major surgery and suffered such loss and that can only be a good thing.

  • Sorry to hear about your surgery and your loss. FB and things like that can be a good tool for keeping in touch especially at times like that.

We're not knocking the sites, we're just not sure about some of the extremes that some people seem to go to with them. We have friends that we've lost touch with somewhat because they have become so enamoured with them (FB and other sites) that they no longer seem to have time to reach out as they did before and to be honest it stings .

  • oh i agree, the side of it i dont like is the abuse and harasment on there.

In the uk recently someone was recently imprisioned for continuing actual harassment by ''poking'' on fb.

  • Loved the intro.

    Good questions, once again.

I think i'm going to have to do another response to this. There's far more than 500 characters worth that i want to say :)

  • LOL Good Morning Sir or shall we say Good Day! Would love to hear your thoughts and your responses are always welcome.

Stormy worked hard on that intro! I was pretty impressed.

Look forward to hearing from you soon.

  • I'll try & record it later today & hopefully post it tomorrow.

it won't be today, as i've just uploaded another vlog myself :)

  • I have tweeted on my ipod touch from under my blanket in the middle of the night before!! hee hee hee

I do love facebook & twitter, I don't really play the games on there, but I love to take the quizzes & things like that. I enjoy sending things too, like virtual flowers, hearts or hugs, but I try to be very selective with what & whom I send things too because some folks don't like getting stuff. (cont)

  • pfffttt, I typed to many "o;s" in my "to", meh

  • Hmmm...those iPod Touches have a camera? Didn't the flash wake DL? We must not be getting all your Tweets cuz' we don't remember a Tweet about that Twitpic or Dailybooth shot coming our way. (We'd have remembered that one for sure.) hehehe

After talking to a lot of people, it seems to be a mixed thing. Some people like getting the flowers and hugs and others don't, so it's probably good that you're aware of their wishes.

  • No camera :( I thought it had one, but alas, ony the iphone at this time.

    Love youse :)

  • I have local friends as well as not so local friends on fb and twitter.

I'd be sad without either fb or twitter, but I'm sure I'd survive. I don't plan on giving them up though, they'll have to take them away from me by force :D

  • Can't imagine anyone being able to force you to do anything.

  • You'd be surprised :S

  • YouTube is about the only site I TRY to keep up with! I have met so many wonderful people here! Some days I have a lot of time, other days I don't, so I "connect" when I can...:-) I don't know how people keep up with all the sites! I start feeling overwhelmed with being everywhere all the time, so I'm not, but I do "check in" from time to time around and about when time permits. :-) Great topic and I enjoyed hearing your thoughts on this subject. :-) xoxoxo

  • Connect when you can is a good way to put it. We have trouble keeping up with YT let alone anything else.

We also seem, to find ourselves

just "checking in" to our other sites also.

We have met many wonderful people here too. Thanks Caylyn always great to hear your thoughts.
