  • Been watching your vids for a good while now, recently got back into van halen again. Just wanted to say thanks for taking the time to show this stuff to us, I wouldn't worry about people. If all they want to do is make fun or stuff like that, there really here to learn or just get their kicks from being dicks to a pretty cool guy. Rock on

  • @lpstrat22 Thank you very much!!! its all good, Can't wait for the new VH !!

  • @720xnet Sure Why not ?? I lost 40Lbs I'm looking to put it back on .......GW

  • nip slip.

  • @Guitarwannabee dude that was fucking awesome!!!!!!!!!

  • if only ppl would listen with there ears and not with there eyes anybody that is puttin this guy down seriously has some jealousy issue that or there bawls haven't dropped

  • Hey Guitarwanabee O: i got that van halen lick down by ear

  • Thats pretty gay that that what you paid attention to....

  • can you post a cover of donut city or ripley hahaha I haven't really seen anyone on here do it

  • dam you can definetly play nice work.thanks for the video

  • thanks man, i was wondering how to do that for 3 yrs,

    kristen

  • He's got the vh sound down pat!

  • thumbs up for moobs

  • wasnt expecting him to sound this good haha. awesome :)

  • esta bien

  • Youre fucking pro, but please...put on a real shirt for God sakes

  • @TOSportsFan1990 ??????????

  • what is the email i have hearing problems

  • If I wanted to know that much about EVH, I'll just call his guitar tech, Tom. He also doesn't have man boobs, or an inaccurate trem.

  • what scales does van halen use?

  • @andrisn14 I have no idea

  • @Guitarwannabee Funny, appreciate yer honesty..thanks for starting your lesson with Push Comes to Shove excerpt..one of ed's best

  • @andrisn14 Scale? The VAN HALEN SCALE!

  • @andrisn14 Blues, Major, very rarely Natural minor, he also use arpeggios alot in the tapping

  • @andrisn14 im pretty sure Van Halen doesnt use scales, just kinda puts his hands on a fretboard and makes magic

  • @andrisn14

A lot of a minor but he adds a lot of unharmonic notes and chromatic elements i think

  • @andrisn14 Minor Pentatonic he also uses from time to time, but he usually breaks it up and applies arpeggios to stop it from being repetitive (as it runs through 3 octaves of the same key) =]

  • @andrisn14 major ones.

  • @andrisn14 van halen normally uses major scales, which is ass backwards to the "80's rock" mentality :p

  • @andrisn14 blues major and minor, major and minor penta tonic, cromatic scale, Aeolian minor (not dominant)...most of the time hes playing in either A minor or E minor....depends on the song... and lot of his runs are penta tonic except for suff like on "im the one" ...and thats just the same thing played over and over (pattern wise) so its cromatic.

  • @andrisn14 the classic 80's scale lol

  • whats your tuning and what strings do play on 1:00-1:10?

  • @eddiehalenvan I Tune E Flat string Guage 009 to 042 EVH's

  • No thanks for lessons. I like the hardness of learning things out by myself no matter how long it may take. Great playing though.

  • awesome

  • AWESOME AWESOME TONE DUDE!!

  • Waouw ! I Love Tapping Harmonics 1:43 ! It's very Cool ! Great Playing !

  • what the pickup do you use, it can be replaced by Seymour Duncan SH-4? (I'm building a replica of EVH1)

    congrats for the video :)

  • @pepinuous I Use the EVO DP-159 Pickup, Not about the Seymour

  • @Guitarwannabee O.o thats an Evo? astounding. I hated the pickups I swapped them out of my JEM for a tone zone/air norton, but they sound really good here...

  • @pepinuous dude, if youre not sure, just use a tonezone ;)

  • Cant really concentrate with that giant tit staring me in the face...

  • @zbarneyz only a fag would stare at his tit...roflmfao!!!!

  • @Hertsman50 ...HIS TITS ARE ALL OVER THE SCREEN! cant watch the vid without seeing man boobs!

  • excellent stuff

  • @mattgsperm You don't have to route anything to make it work "down only". If you have to drill holes for the two posts, that's one thing. But if your Strat is setup for a two point trem, a Floyd will fall right in. I don't use a locking nut at all. I just use a TusqXL nut and locking tuners and almost never need to tune it.

  • sweet!

  • what are the tabs for the 1st tapping riff u did please and the 3rd and 4th tapping riff where you say im gunna do some tap harmonics?

  • dude, you're fuckin awesome

  • How does Ed make that horsey noise? And how about that thing in the beginning of "Dancing In The Streets"?

  • @mattgsperm automaster66@gmail.

  • Did you just pop the floyd on it or did you have to do some routing? I'm thinking about installing a floyd rose on my strat but i don't know where to start...

  • was the main body also a strat?

  • @chimplad1995 yep, had to route it out, not much though

  • @chimplad1995 yes it was a squire

  • Hey man, did you get that guitar you are playing in this video in a kit or did you order it seperately. i only wanted to ask because im building a EVH guitar and i cannot find a pickguard like that ANYWHERE!! I was going to resort to what Eddie did and try and make one out of vinyl but i saw your video so i just had to ask you. Where did you get the pickguard from and how much was it would you say? Great video by the way, killer tone, great phrasing. Fantastic. Keep rocking!

  • @backseatdriver03 Thank you....... The pick gaurd I ot from Warmoth Guitars for 35 bucks... I built the guitar from junk... 500 bucks total

  • craige, i love this guitar and amp sound. haven't heard your set up in a while, it's king.

  • first you tell us you can't keep up with all the emails then 20 seconds later you tell us to email you......lol

  • timing...lol

  • seriously tho you got some great talent. love the guitar BTW

  • WOW what a great job of getting great tone!!You are very close to the master; The techniques are cool also!!;sound very real.............Imagine coming out with this style,in late 70's? No wonder everybody was so floored, when he did this! You sir are the man ,for doing this so well;I think it's the BEST on youtube, definately the BEST sounding, for sure !!

  • thank you so much

  • Did anyone buy this guys DVD ? n if its worth buying for a beginner level. What's the quality n pls list all songs, thanks alot

  • is thst a old les paul pick up or a dimarzo??

  • its a EVO DP-159

  • i dont git how your just tapping and its making it so loud i tap and you can barely hear it wat am i doing wrong.

  • you need more gain or your not moving hard or fast enough

  • I've seen someon people when they tap get a little too close to the fret bar, not sure if that's your problem, but try to make a point to strike the string directly in the middle of the fret.

  • Ed copied that double taping stuff from the Randy Rhoads solo Flying High Again

  • no he didn't

  • AND Eruption is from an old classic violin song that Ed heard ...

  • Eruption is all Ed shredding. He didn't copy anything

  • You are insane...name the old classic violin song? If he did get it from an old song then I'm guessing it came out before either Edward or Randy was born, right?

  • FURTHERMORE ... the racing strips on his guitar started when he was in his guitar shop and to save time he would put his guitars together with electrical tape and test them out ...

  • @dvdgzzrll You are an idiot. I am a BIG Randy Rhoads fan but Ed got the tapping from Page, Atkins, or someone who did he long before him.

  • if no one copied anything or used and developed others ideas where would our music be now? point proven so shut the fuck up!

  • @nickstur is that directed at me? i'm not disrespecting EVH at all, just pointing out some information. I'm a fan of Ed!

  • @dvdgzzrll No, Randy Rhoads doesn't have a "trademark" on anything. 99.9% of everything Ed and Randy did was done long before them.

  • @Whoor cool so you can tell me who Randy got the double tapping technique from right ??? ... waiting

  • Comment removed

  • @Whoor i'm not talking about tapping. If you were paying attention you'd know that we're talking about DOUBLE tapping hence the randy rhoads solo in "Flying High Again" ...

  • Lets see...Flyin' High Again came out in 1981....Eruption came out in 1978...hmmm....how many years apart is that and which came out first? Can you do math?

  • hahaha! again you're not paying attention. There is no DOUBLE Tapping in Eruption.

  • First of all, I've been playing guitar for 25 years - what you call double-tapping is nothing more than hammer-ons and pull-offs. By the way, Spanish Fly has what you refer to as double-tapping and it was recorded in 1979 - two years before Flyin' High Again.

  • Actually, if you want to refer to hammer-ons as "double-tapping" then Spanish Fly actually has triple tapping. Now see if you can beat that!

  • lol! could you tab that out for me bro? thanks!

  • Here is the "triple-tapping" as you'd call it but it's just tapping and hammering. From Spanish Fly:

9p6p2p0h2h6-9p6p2p0h2h6-9p6p2p0h2h6-9p6p2p0 (All on the A string) Notice the release date: March 1979. Flyin High Again was release November 7, 1981.

  • so you're the great Randy Rhoads lover, but you've never learned the solo to Flying High Again? ... seems odd ....

  • OK. I'm sorry, I have totally misunderstood what you meant by "double-tapping". I really had no idea it was such a big deal. So anyways, I searched every Van Halen solo and he does what you refer to as "double-tapping" in "Ice Cream Man" but for an almost identical tapping part to "Flyin High Again" check out the 8th bar of his solo in "You're no good". This is about 2 and a half years before Randy did it.

  • wow you are spending a lot of time on proving me wrong ... do you have something better to do like maybe some guitar lessons? lol!

  • This case if closed. Now run along and learn from this that when you think you know everything you are really revealing how little you do actually know. I'm glad I could help you learn something new. You're welcome.

  • haha yes case closed, but I do know everything and I'm God so bow to me and I might give you a guitar lesson ...

  • i've already won a few rounds with you boy, i'm finished while i'm ahead! :)

  • I didn't know this was a game. If you really wanna play...you shoot a video of you playing a solo and I'll match it...we'll see who is better.

  • so you need to prove who is better, is that what you are saying? have you seem my video of me playing on stage with Ian Gillan and Lars Ulrich?

  • No I haven't seen your video. I'm curious as to why you're trying to change the subject from "double-tapping" to something else. Could it be because you were....ummm.. WRONG!

  • Also, as for the initial arguement, it's over, you were wrong - admit it. Now, if you want to go on to and argue about something else, go for it; however, I am not going to use up some one else's page just so you can promote yourself or try and come off as being intelligent. I will not be responding to you any longer on this page because this page belongs to wannabe and you should respect that and drop it.

  • i have a DP-155 neck pickup it's an alnico 5 Great for arppegio's

  • That looks like a full shred seymour duncan pickup. i got the Screamin demon on order!

  • There is a differance between tap harmonic's and 2 handed hammer on's.

you tap the harmonic right over the fret bar's the best place to do it is between the 7th and 9th fret bar's

  • Thanks for your efforts. You're an accomplished Eddie imitator for sure. You've obviously captured his sound and technique.

  • Thank you........

  • i never heard of tap harmonics can someone please post a video on how to do the tap harmonics please.

  • I cant post a vid. But u can pick a harmonis at fret twelve on the large E string right. Well insead of picking it, tap fret twelve quickly. DSnt let your fingure stay on to long. There wont be much of a tone difference because you are tapping an E harmonisc on the E string but it is the easiest fret to tap and might help out a little. Sorry if it doesnt though

  • how do you get your eddie van halen sound

  • Dude!! Great playing!

  • Great man!! You think you could go a little more in depth with that classicla tapping lick?? You're the first person on here thats taught that and I've been asking EVERYONE haha

  • K, the brown sound is Eddie's techniques, tone and style. This is what put him on the map. Hope that answers your question!

  • You know you suck at guitar (me, not you) when someone says "I'll play it slow" and it still seems pretty fast.

Anyway, nice playing and nice guitar. What kind is it?

  • I made it from a squier

  • sick guitar

  • I agree on that. For example on some Paul GIlbert instruction video he says "Now lets play it slow", while he still goes hyperspeed.

    Great video "Guitarwannabe"

  • how do you do the kramer logo?

  • No Idea, my Buddy did it on the computer

  • yeah what was the email dude

  • What was the email adress?

  • Is guitar builder your job? very nice tho. Thnaks for posting this

  • You are one talented dude.

  • thank you..........

  • your awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • craig you really are the dude, you know that dont you.

  • Push comes to shove! Nice lesson! Im diggin the strat, this is great!

  • what kind of guitar is that and where did you get it?

  • Its a home made job, I did it myself.......

  • he has a video were he explains it

  • Do you play anything else other than VH? Your very good, but i'd like to see you play something ELSE. How about some Bruce dickinson, Gary moore? Schenker, scorpions ? Peace.

  • To Lizardneck: lul dude... Bruce Dickenson on the Gat?? I think you mean Adrian Smith, Janick Gers or my personal fav; Dave Murray.

Rock n Metal is a RELIGION!! Eddie is a god. Craig, you blow me the fuck away with how well you can play EVH. Awesome shit brother.

  • question..... i got this new guitar it is a LTD but i think the string are to high because if i want to play a song i have to play a fret down to get it to sound like the song...... how far do the strings have to be away from the fret board? and how do i lower them?
