It's a standard requirement that everyone would need to speak it, and study all subjects (except their mother language) in English. Also, the person you were replying to is speaking the standard 'Singlish', Singaporean English.

Other than that, I might have been the only one who felt that the person wearing braces is somewhat disadvantaged, so that doesn't really count. D:
