I remember this game! My cart was called "Super Bros. 8" though. Took me a while to figure out that you can only damage the bosses by throwing the minions.

One of the last games I played on an actual console. Good times. Boss theme still as awesome as I recalled.

Well, the label on my old cartridge says it's Mario 3, but the title screen says 8. You really never kknow with these pirate games =p

I just found this cartridge in my collection. It' a seafoam green cassette that clearly states "Super 3" on it. Is there any more information out there about this bootleg?

Yep, the game in fact is Don Doko Don 2 (I think you already know it, don't you?), but I played it like this, and like Mario 10, and Mario 14, and Mario 16.

Bring back my memories.

Yeah it is. It was really neat when I played this game back 15 years ago because I though it was an awesome game and one day I'll find a cartridge version of it.
