  • Thank you for sharing. I sure miss the old fallen flags we can see in this video. The Northern Line I think was foolishly allowed to rot. Typical of New Hampshire, and sadly the way things seem to go up there. I too hate to think this is only good for snow mobiles today. We can only hope that someone will wake up some day and see the potential for this route again.

  • I remember seeing those type of eningines when I was little and that wonderful paint job.

  • Great video. What year?

  • Are you selling a DVD of your film from B & M I would be interested my hotmail is CN_2319-RS_66@hotmail.ca so I'd like you to answer me

  • This sure does give a real feel for the time.

  • Absolutely beautiful video. Leaves me almost speechless. I would love to be there to see the look on my Fathers face when he watches this. Thanks.

  • Brings back a lot of good memories. thanks

  • at 0:21 there is a Wilson Reefer- any way to tell the number ?

  • It's too bad the line was left to rot. I always felt it could still be used for something.

  • Thanks for sharing. This is near where we live.

  • not much to look. at today about what area do you live near?

  • Franklin. This is about 5 miles from town. We go thru here frequently.

  • sweet video man! my family has some 9mm films of the Erie Lackawanna from the southern tire and i wish i could post it!

  • All I can say is WOW!!! this is so impressive. The many times I walked tracks in NH, i always wondered what it was like to see a train on these tracks. Thanks so much for giving me this glimpse of NH railroading. I never thought container cars were moved on the Northern Line.

  • @jwerren78 Wish it was still there

  • This is amazing!! Check out all the cool freight cars!! Most guys didn't do that, because 8mm was expensive. He shot almost the whole train. Please give your dad my thanks.

  • @pfb254 he was glad to hear it. He wishes he had filmed more.

  • Thanks! excellent video. I live next to this track in Penacook. Its still quote unquote active down here haha sigh

  • The Early 1970's were a strange time in railroading. Some of the things that we consider "modern" (high horsepower diesels, flashy graphics) had just come into being, but there were so many old signals, branches and diesels from the "old days" left behind.

  • Thankyou very much for all of this.... !!!

  • To bad its all gone today.

  • Yeah, you can thank Patrick McGuinness and Timothy Mellon for its abandonment >:(

  • Timothy Mellon came around in the 80's. IIRC part of this line in the Maine area at least, was gone by the late 40's early 50's.

Correct me if I am wrong, but isn't this the B&M Secondary main line out of Portland, Maine?

  • No, this is the Northern line in NH runs from Concord to WRJ. We are currently trying to restore this line. Visit the New Hampshire Railroad Revitalization Association to find out more

  • Hmm, I guess ya got me lost, only Northern Line I know of is the one that goes into Bow/Concord. Then it was the White Mtn Division that continued from Concord into Lincoln..

  • I hope to make the next meeting. My father is a life member and my fathers cousin Bill is to i think

  • This is fantastic. Someone has opened

a vault full of history. Thank You so much
