@neil73 It's the exposure of the camera. If the exposure was such that you could see the hills, the brightness of the nuke would overwelm it where all you could see is white. So the exposure is adjusted to let in less light where you can make out the feature of the explosion, but therefore the hills are to dark in comparison to show up. Point your digital camera something bright, then look at something dark through it and you'll get an idea what I mean.

An H Bomb or hydrogen bomb uses nuclear fusion instead of fission, it slams two atoms together instead of splitting an atom, creating a much larger yield than that of an atom bomb. It destroys the area for any vegetation or growth from the land.  It kills everything in a 100 mile radius. Smart bombs and guided missiles are better. When you take out an enemy, it doesn't require 100 miles of destruction. That's overkill. It's better to have a small, controlled destruction of enemy territory, create blackouts via EMP weapons, cut off natural resources to certain areas and ambush your enemy, etc. That's how you win wars. Almost every country has a nuke. What a waste.
