As I see it. Jesus was a smart man that belived in family the power is for the people and trough taking the power from the church by taking away sin on the cross makes it so obvious to me that there is no sin its a way to controll people trough that you are sinfull and he wanted that system away from the families. I am not a self righteous Christian who goes out and says everyone is going to hell. This song is weird to me but I have to agree with the guy in the video commenting on her music and yes it should make people think not have them fight about who's right and who's wrong. We have different points of views and if you listen to these sides of the stories you can explain yourselves.
Here's what I think of her song: it is a great musical representation of how we, as humans, struggle with an attachment to lustful, dirty, often considered evil and bad things, as well as addictions. We cling to these situations, if I can call them that, rather then focusing on the more spiritual or God providing side of life-- Faith and a devotion to something that isn't earthly but rather life-giving and life-satisfying, rather then compulsive indulgences.
So, in musical terms, you say Judas is more of Lady Gaga's usual shtick. I agree, but I still think she sets the bar higher for what is expected of pop singers.
From a personal stance, I love the song - for the time being. Maybe my atheism lends a positive bias toward the song, but so what? Gaga doesn't seem to settle for dumb lyrics and sampling from other songs - most of the time.

Thank you for this! There are plenty of us "religious" that don't find this song to be offensive. The use of the word Judas is often used in many contexts.. just as the way people might use the phrase "doubting Thomas." This song isn't necessarily about the person of Judas as you pointed out, just about a type of betrayal and choice. Gaga is extensively progressive but it's time for some open dialogue. Agreed!
I see the song as one big metaphor. I see it as a woman who has found a man that can take care of her, love her and be kind to her(jesus) but she is still very much in love with a man who hurts and betrays her(judas) like so many other young women fall into that trap. Because we read the Scriptures... and the Scriptures teach us how to know who's on the broad path and on the narrow path. It's simple discernment, and while you're correct that we are not the final judges--we are the ones who can warn about how God's final judgment will be... hence telling you what to stop doing and how to be saved so you don't end up on the wrong side of that judgment. If you cannot tell that Lady Gaga is living in sin/promoting it, then you're blind friend.
I do understand that the Bible is God's word, and we should spread it throughout the world. However, I still don't think we have the right to accuse others of being completely evil. We can say they sin (since everyone sins), but going as far as condemning our brothers isn't right. This song can definitely be seen as something that spreads negative propaganda, but we also can see it as how life really is: wanting to stay close to Jesus, but sin keeping us away from him.
If you understand that it's His words, then you should understand that's all we're doing... there are many places we're commanded to expose wickedness, judge righteously, and warn those about hell and spread the Gospel. The song works on a number of levels, like you say, even though GaGa won't admit to it. It absolutely does present the question of 'Will I choose Jesus over Judas?' I don't know if this means she has made the choice of one over the other, but it shows us the struggle we all face: the choice of good over evil. As a human, she is drawn to the dark, as we all are, but she seems to be in a position where she's trying to do the right thing, but it's hard because she's 'still in love with Judas

I agree on your points. I really do like the song though. I don't find it offensive, her music is just so deep, that it's hard to understand the point in it.
The end was interesting, is she being stoned? Possibly a reference to the story in the Bible in which the religious leaders try to get Jesus to help stone a woman caught in sexual sin (Gaga says something about being a known prostitute). Gaga is certainly getting a lot of rub from religious people about this song and her life style. Though I don’t agree with a lot of what she is doing, I definitely can’t be the one to throw the first stone. I hope she eventually finds what she is searching for.
Why would that matter if she's praying... God only listens to those who do His will, those who don't live in sin, and broken repentant sinners... her prayers won't be heard.

I heard the song and saw the video for the first time today and I agree with your point but I think she just took it too far, she could have sang the song and gotten that message out without being so offensive. But then after listening to the lyrics I wasn't so sure anymore if it really was blasphemy.... I still don't have an answer for me yet. she sings about how bad her longing for Judas is (where I think she refers to sin or her vices.) and that's a good thing to say.

If you look at the end, there is a part when she is making a decision, she standing in between jesus and judas, and it seem like she is trying to do the right thing and leave "judas" but it is hard. She goes back to judas, judas kisses jesus like "hA I won" and as gaga is upset cling on his garment, its like "jesus" grabs her hand and kisses her forehead like" its ok, you come when you are truly ready"

I am not a self righteous Christian who goes out and says everyone is going to hell. This song is weird to me but I have to agree with the guy in the video commenting on her music and yes it should make people think not have them fight about who's right and who's wrong. We have different points of views and if you listen to these sides of the stories you can explain yourselves.

Here's what I think of her song: it is a great musical representation of how we, as humans, struggle with an attachment to lustful, dirty, often considered evil and bad things, as well as addictions. We cling to these situations, if I can call them that, rather then focusing on the more spiritual or God providing side of life-- Faith and a devotion to something that isn't earthly but rather life-giving and life-satisfying, rather then compulsive indulgences.

So, in musical terms, you say Judas is more of Lady Gaga's usual shtick. I agree, but I still think she sets the bar higher for what is expected of pop singers.
From a personal stance, I love the song - for the time being. Maybe my atheism lends a positive bias toward the song, but so what? Gaga doesn't seem to settle for dumb lyrics and sampling from other songs - most of the time.

Thank you for this! There are plenty of us "religious" that don't find this song to be offensive. The use of the word Judas is often used in many contexts.. just as the way people might use the phrase "doubting Thomas." This song isn't necessarily about the person of Judas as you pointed out, just about a type of betrayal and choice. Gaga is extensively progressive but it's time for some open dialogue. Agreed!

I see the song as one big metaphor. I see it as a woman who has found a man that can take care of her, love her and be kind to her(jesus) but she is still very much in love with a man who hurts and betrays her(judas) like so many other young women fall into that trap. I just listened to Judas (and actually listened the lyrics) and I 100% agree with you. I really don't know why people criticize this song when it's obviously not about being Satanic and I knew that from just listening to it the first time. After listening to so many of her songs and watching a lot of the MVs, I already knew that this wasn't supposed to be taken literally. I already knew she was also Catholic so I didn't even bother with the people who kept saying she's a devil worshipper.
I have had this song on repeat all day, just because of the lyrics. We can all relate to it and I do respect her for at least writing her own songs and putting some kind of meaning into the lyrics.

I think Jesus was more of a metaphor, like Judas was in the song; I don't think she meant anything like "I'd love to be Christian, BUT...". That's really just my opinion though. I really liked hearing that interpretation of it though, I hadn't heard it before. Interesting. And THANK YOU for seeing more than just one side to this song, for not automatically saying she's the devil for saying she's in love with Judas or something ridiculous like that.

Because we read the Scriptures... and the Scriptures teach us how to know who's on the broad path and on the narrow path. It's simple discernment, and while you're correct that we are not the final judges--we are the ones who can warn about how God's final judgment will be... hence telling you what to stop doing and how to be saved so you don't end up on the wrong side of that judgment. If you cannot tell that Lady Gaga is living in sin/promoting it, then you're blind friend.

I do understand that the Bible is God's word, and we should spread it throughout the world. However, I still don't think we have the right to accuse others of being completely evil. We can say they sin (since everyone sins), but going as far as condemning our brothers isn't right. This song can definitely be seen as something that spreads negative propaganda, but we also can see it as how life really is: wanting to stay close to Jesus, but sin keeping us away from him.

The song works on a number of levels, like you say, even though GaGa won't admit to it. It absolutely does present the question of 'Will I choose Jesus over Judas?' I don't know if this means she has made the choice of one over the other, but it shows us the struggle we all face: the choice of good over evil. As a human, she is drawn to the dark, as we all are, but she seems to be in a position where she's trying to do the right thing, but it's hard because she's 'still in love with Judas

I find it interesting how she has the skull & bone in this video. The skull & bone can also means poison. Cos in some of her other videos she seems to like poisoning. The end was interesting, is she being stoned? Possibly a reference to the story in the Bible in which the religious leaders try to get Jesus to help stone a woman caught in sexual sin (Gaga says something about being a known prostitute). Gaga is certainly getting a lot of rub from religious people about this song and her life style. Though I don’t agree with a lot of what she is doing, I definitely can’t be the one to throw the first stone. I hope she eventually finds what she is searching for.

It is not our job to judge others. We do not know for sure what God thinks, because we are human. We have no idea what Lady Gaga's relationship with God is, and just because you may not agree with her choices that does not give any of us the right to judge her and claim that we know how God feels about her.

Gaga appreciates Religious Art and wanted to convey that in her work.
Also she has said that Judas represents an ex-boyfriend who she's still in love with despite him betraying her, and leaving Jesus for him. Its not meant to change current ideas of the bible or be a new representation of the people in it.

I heard the song and saw the video for the first time today and I agree with your point but I think she just took it too far, she could have sang the song and gotten that message out without being so offensive.
