these photos are of real people with nothing but hope ...most never made it and most have no marker on their final resting place...but have empty ruins from where they left long time ago....makes me sad....
This song speaks to the ancestors in our blood. Mine came from Wales and from Devon, and it could be them in these images just as this song could be for them, too. Thanks luathbreacdh, for touching a chord.
Determined and bound for America- Yes the Irish built the greatest nation on Earth, the United States of America. God bless the Irish and God bless America
A beautiful song....and what annoys me the most is the whole immigration issue is raising it's head again, because of corrupt politicians and their elitist, untouchable banker friends, who have practically brought this country to it's knees..........
My dad came to England 50 years ago, this song epitomises my thoughts on his struggles to keep our family together through the adversity of those times.....
Beautiful and moving. Danny Doyle also recorded a very fine rendition of this song. The singer may be Irish, but the song means as much to all of us who are the grandchildren of immigrants. Mine came from Vienna in 1921, and I think of him and get a bit misty when I play this song.
I visited my grandfathers birthplace in Ireland this summer and when it was my turn to return to Canada I thought about him and the day he sailed, leaving Ireland forever. Thank you so much for posting this beautiful song. I have a small idea of what he must have felt.
My favorite Irish song. It speaks to my heart like no other song I have ever heard. This song is on Delores' CD - Solid Ground which is also my favorite CD of Irish ballads.
Most of us are the childern, grand childern or great grand childern of those who came through Ellis Island. thank you Guy Clark an d Roger Murrah for writing such a wonderful tribute. And thanks to Delores for a beautiful version.
