@belleairn1124 It was on the radio as I was driving around. Since most of it was Motown and this was Detroit, it worked out. Got something against '60's music?
@MegaDarkangel420 Being basically a one-industry town, Detroit suffered more than most cities from the collapse of the U.S. auto industry. It's lost more than half it's population since 1950. There are still areas east and west of downtown that are so vacant that there was actually a proposal to cut off all utilities and let them go back to nature. And the old, abandoned Packard plant on Grand Blvd: WOW. But there well-kept areas like the ones in this video. They just don't make the news.
@rocketdogg6 Next time I'm in Detroit, I'll definitely do videos of those. There's too much emphasis in the media on the vacant lots and dying neighborhoods in our big cities, and too little on the city residents who are trying to keep things from falling apart.
@gomektampa Well then, the ones on those side streets could learn something from the ones on the boulevards about how to keep a neighborhood from sinking into the ground. It starts with community involvement, but that would require exerting a little effort, and so many people want to "let George do it". Of course, George is sitting around waiting himself.
@artistmac no it don't when you got no money or a job are you gonna help out others? will you have time?
what will you do if your taxed to death like this? really Detroit has collapsed because of every one flocking here to get jobs and it was booming then every one retired and same on and on then lately (10-20years ago) tons of guys retired and are now in Texas living la-vita loca while they left Detroit in shambles
detroit is posted as the wost place in America all Detroit needs is jobs an cash
@deathsoap I agree, for a "good" neighborhood, this is pretty middle-incomed housing. Although, it is refreshing to see that there is at least some good housing in Detroit. If this is really the "hidden gems", than that's pretty fricking sad.
Showing just Outer Drive is like showing the skin of an onion. Once you get off the Outer Drive, the side streets are a mess. There are countless boarded up and burned out houses and stores. This is the truth. A sad end to a once great city.
@boazrg talk what you know most of the outer drive areas East and West look fine. In some areas its bad no lie but not the majority and some of the "bad" areas only been getting bad since people are just up and leaving their homes smh
umm..this is still the hood. you should have made a right on Warren so you could show your viewers all the abandoned and burnt stores. Every street that I can think of from Alter to Outer Drive has some jacked up houses.
@eastbayjen lmao another who needs to talk what they know! smh the majority of alter (which is a short street btw) is all knew homes (thanks to the lady from the westside :) I can't of her name but thanks anyway). And from the direction they are coming on this video its not a right that your talking about because that will take to you to East English Village where my bro stays and its fine......to the left is still the hood on E. Warren
Its just a facade... turn down any one of those streets especially before U passed Harper. Go down linville and maryland and show the people. U got this in summer with brightened colors n shit. Ooo and U cant even park in Chandler Park any more.... CHANDLER PARK GONE WILD ne1?
I used to work at Jefferson Assy, and traveled through these streets. Lived about a mile from there near Denby. Houses were nice then, still you see some trashy places even there with the long grass not mowed, junky cars but mostly good upkeep. Most of the public servants were (once) REQUIRED to live within the city limits so lots of them lived near the city limits. (8 Mile)
We were safe, we had policemen living all around, one across the street and 3 on the block.
There are a lot of nice spots in Detroit proper.however I think that most of Outer Drive is located in the outskirts of the city itself going toward Dearborn, Warren some of the other surrounding areas.
It's near Warrem, Dearborn is west of Detroit. It's close to the suburbs, but, it's still the city. I don't know why people don't talk about all this "Near the suburbs" crap for L.A. or Chicago.
whats up with the fucking music???

If you want to see hidden gems in Detroit, show a video of Boston Boulevard or Sherwood Forest/Palmer Woods. The houses there are unbelievable!
