  • This looks exactly the kind of fish I would like to have! Are they aggressive? Here in Finland everyone warns me not to get them because they can be too angry. Wuth other fish I mean.

  • @hypoksifilia they can be with their own kind, however normally this can be avoided with plenty of room and hiding places

  • Synodontis eupterus is my favourite fish! How big is this? If it's too small to be Eupterus, I think it must be synodontis Robbianus then -another favorite fish of mine, smaller than Eupterus! It doesn't have spots, like the synodontis eupterus does. This fish is marvellous, no matter what it actually is. Might it be Mystus Leucophasis? It's not a synodontis but it's big and dark enough to be this fish. It's very hard to tell, since there are so many hybrids in the trade these days.

  • @hypoksifilia - true, there are sadly many hybrids around. The specimen in the video is around 7.5 inches from head to tail. They tend to lose many of their spots as they age, this one is around 12 years of age. The Robbianus is a far more peacefull fish, much more slender than the eupterus and does not have the famous long dorsal and caudal fin of the eupterus. The robbianus tends to be dark brown in colour, his belly will be yellow/light brown also. Hope this helps, thanks

  • In my experience, holding them firmly, but not harshly, behind the head makes them docile enough to be moved without hassle.

  • @blownable Yes thats a good way also, theres a big dorsal muscle there, doesnt seem to hurt them, spot on.

  • Awesome might try it some time , I can do it with my betta and he's fine with it =) oh yeah male bettas go awesome with them as long as thy are a fair size , me betta just floats round undisubed , it's lush =)

  • First of all I'm not gunna slate you about your tank cuz I have two near adult ones in a fair size tank they are happy as can be , mind you their all on their lonesome lots of room =) , but how the hell did you manage this they have spines and they hurt , I work in a garden centre aquarium=\

  • @fuzzymanluke Hey man , thats just a bucket that she was in when i wwas moving her. Your totally right, her spines are nasty. But if you take it slow she doesnt stick them out, dont freak her out and keep her relaxed.

  • @fuzzymanluke I used to work in an aquarium center and have kept fish for a long time, If you watch the video closely you'll see that I only move very slowly, no sudden movements, the catfish will only use its Weberian apparatus to lock its dorsal & pectorals if its stressed. I could never do this at the place where i worked as the fish were constantly stressed out. Nice vids by the way.

  • im getting ready to buy one would it be able to live peacefully in a 25 gallon tank?

  • it really depends what else is in the tank. It would have to be the only medium sized catfish

  • okay today i found out my tank is 30 gallon tank i got a nicely size pictus catfish its nice looking but battle scared i had a gold fish and there and he scared it to death so now its dead :( there not as cool as these guys but hes really awesome what other fish can i put with him if anyone knows :/

  • @hellopie4567 Eupterus will not mix with other catfish, unless you have ALOT of covered territory for the eupterus and the other catfish.

  • @darlena330 A very general statement. Yes it would be expected to provide plenty of cover. I have successfully kept many S. eupterus with lots of other catfish, for many years, in relative harmony (which is infinately better than what they will encounter in the wild). I have found that they mix well with S, schoutedeni, S, alberti & many Doradids. Hope this helps.

  • 25 gallons is to small for a featherfin, they need alot of room to grow as mines almost a foot long now

  • @featherfinkeeper Sorry man but thats not S, eupterus, way to big -- max 8 inches, unless its a freak of nature

  • I had two and then one died, I got another one and it was hald the size of the older one and now for some reason it is twice the size of the older one and im starting to wonder if the older one is a eupterus at all

  • Send me a pic of it and i'll have a look

  • Haha nice I've got one named Jeremy who comes to the surface to get his belly rubbed.

  • Yeah the Synodontis eupterus can be a bit scrappy. I've always found that

  • omg very nice

  • I just got one and he'spicking on all my other fish.... He hates my Albino Pleco .... I had to pull him out.. Any problems with yours ?

  • @FreedomRadioNetwork S.Eupterus are very territorial and without enough room it is likely that it will subdue any other tank mates. I have an 8" S. Eupterus in a 125G tank with african cichlids and he chases them often, but never really bites them. Just keeping them in check.

  • wow that was amazing, mine are no where near as friendly. I could never hold them.

WHAT YOURS IS PREGNANT?! hOW BUT WHAT?!!! NO ONE CAN BREED THEM WITH OUT HORMONES THEY ARE WITH BRED IN SPECIAL SPAWNING PONDS WITH HORMONES OR CAUGHT FORM THE WILD.

  • is your syno pregnant? or is he just a fatty...

  • pregnant and 'well fed' :)
