I will never ride in a horse-drawn carriage in New York or any other city. Horses are fear-based animals & shouldn't be pulling carriages in with traffic. To willfully subject an animal to unhealthy conditions that cause pain and extreme fear is abusive. Carriage rides are about as nostalgic as an outhouse in winter.

The conditions that these horses live in are obsurd. It doesn't matter if the men beat them, the point is that horses do NOT belong in the city. Most of these horses have never in their lives been able to graze peacefully in a pasture where they belong. They are constantly breathing in the car feumes, which causes lung problems, not to mention the fact that they carry around 1,000lb+ all day everyday. They live in a building, and in the end are sent to Japan to be killed for their meat.
There is always accidents. A horse can break a leg in a pasture as well, does that mean we should keep them indoors? Or they get stressed by being indoors and develope ulcars. Or they spook at a plastic bag when driving in the woods. Or.. well. Anything. Hores like to work and move their bodies, they don't see work as humans tend to do. It's usually a pleasure for them, and most are well treated. The most apathic horses I've seen has been ''pasture pets''... not working animals.
Secondly, horses are bred to work,& did so in large cities up to the dominance of the motor car, circe 1940, which is not that long ago really. Accidents are exactly that, accidents, they cannot be prevented nor can they be predicted, by ANYone.
I think that all those who have NO experience raising or looking after horses are not in a position to comment on this. Keeping horses is an extrememly difficult and skilled job, requiring many years of learning. I think it wrong for some people to accuse people who are evidently caring for their animals with skill and love of neglect and cruelty.
Accidents happen in every horse sport in the entire world. You can't pin down on one without pinning down on all. Make sure you've personally seen these horses in their stalls and at work before thinking about this. I advize looking at StopLiesSeeTruth channel, they show you what its like for their carriage horses. And those horses live a great life.
the "metal in their mouth" is called a bit and they have a coppery taste that most horses love and a horse more often then not wont do a thing unless the bit is something he/she likes. Most cities I've seen do not have city stables where the horses stay. The horses are changed out and rarely have to work so they spend their days grazing at home. We very rarely see accidents around here and when we do they are never very bad. People just lay off the horn and slow down around carriages.

I promise to ride in a carriage at least twice the next time I'm in NYC. The horses are not abused. If you want to end carriage, then you should also fight to end racing, eventing, barrel racing, and even trail riding. Horses die in all of those activities as well.

That is sad. Why are they allowed on the streets like that? I thought they were restricted to the parks. We have carriage tours here in the summer, it only runs twice a day on weekends and it is only in the lower traffic historic areas during daylight hours. They are restricted to the bus lanes when they need other road access. It's for the safety of everyone.

There are horse carridges around here, but it is an extremly small town and the horse are treated very fairly. It isn't an everyday thing here. Its one man who does it with a very well trained horse once or twice a year. ;[

I was talking about "NEW YORK" what it looks like in the movies. not the carriages. i have 3 driving horses of my own. i whip mine but i dont beat them or anything. actually a lot of driving horses LOVE what they do. Its bred into them. just because their are taxi cab accidents and people die, thats including children and infants, should we ban them too. im sure you can find something bad about everything.

the drivers don't carry water in their buckets, they claim they use the bucket to fill with water but not once have I see this happened. In fact, they claim I am there every day and if I am there every day then I should have seen at least once the bucket filled with water. Never seen it.

well some people seemed pretty heated on here...well horses have been a form of transportation for a long time and i think its cool to have them in a big city , people can slow down and remember where we all came from. but cant they have special lanes for the carriages or something or write tickets for cutting one off. there is probably a law that can help them a little bit because new york is Crazy...never been but my sis has and it seems like it is in movies!!! i wouldnt ban the carriages!!

Belive it or not this is all crap. I am one of the owner operaters at Central Park, wwatch my vids and see my horses at home on my farm with other carriage horses, my vids show regulations and care. My horses only work 4 months each a year.
The poster here is an 18 year old child who has never been to NYC or my farm, or the many farms In Lancaster Pa. Where over 100 of other owners horses are boarded.

That is sad. Why are they allowed on the streets like that? I thought they were restricted to the parks. We have carriage tours here in the summer, it only runs twice a day on weekends and it is only in the lower traffic historic areas during daylight hours. They are restricted to the bus lanes when they need other road access. It's for the safety of everyone.

yes, I do carry whips and I do use them on my horse. I will also use it on those fucking animal activists. My horse don't mind when I whip him. He don't mind not eating for hours and working dehydrated. He is a great horse. Sometimes, he starts slowing down and/or limping so then I whip his ass. I have to make my monies.

There are horse carridges around here, but it is an extremly small town and the horse are treated very fairly. It isn't an everyday thing here. Its one man who does it with a very well trained horse once or twice a year. ;[

I am a carriage driver like you and I am tired of these animal activists who complain. Our horses don't complain working over 9 hours with no food or water. I am a NYC driver and I don't understand what is the issue. My horse has no complain working over 9 hours with no food and water. He doesn't care that he lives in a hellhole filled with shit and urine and he can't lay down. Only these fucking assholes have issues. I wish I can whip theses assholes like I whip my horse
