  • A the one second mark if you look closely at the rear door you can see the very end triangular part of the door appear, giving the C pillar its actual shape. I think it was painted and due to the low quality of the video it looks like its not there at all.

  • The C pillar does not look like a Holden Commodore although Crashlab, written on the side of the car, is part of the NSW RTA.

  • Compare with this test of a Santana, which seems to be at similar speed (around 100 km/h). I don't know whether teh Santana also has 300 kg load in boot, as this one has.

    Search for:

8 Faurecia VW Santana passenger side view

  • if you were in that car you would be in whats known as "fucked" state

  • Rear*

  • I've been looking around and seeing that might be a cheap Chinese rip off of a commodore and Iif u look at the top back Corner of the read window it's not right if this is ment to be a VB, VC, or VH

  • It's a Australian brand owned by GM so Europe has nothing to do with this.

If you wanna check European crash tests, just search for Volvo and we'll compare.

  • @veterinaren Wrong. That Car is a Opel Rekord / Commodore and sold very well in Europe /Sweden. In England that very car were named Vauxhall.

  • @veterinaren The Commodore was a rebuilt Opel Rekord, the car in the vid looks like a 1978-1980 car

  • The back end seems unnaturaly heavy... And its not a rear engine car...

  • Why couldnt they have used this car in the friday music video?

  • @interplazer - Thats quite strange because Gm owns the model wich crash here on the video...

  • I don't think it was weezy I think it was Khaled inside muchin out

  • Perfect classic car for the family!

  • hope lil wayne was driving it

  • fucking euro crap car, no wonder.

  • @interplexer lol! This "euro crap car" is made by GM.

  • @ChaseKittens .... LOLOLOLOLOL!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Safer and better looking than a Smart Car

  • that'll buffer out.

  • how fast was the car? there's a difference between 30 and 70mph.

  • Thats a jap car, try a REAL american car next?

  • @Bobbeization That was a holden aka GM

  • @Bobbeization

You want real american car? Just watch this video:

    watch?v=FP8Idne-MRM

  • @Bobbeization Actually that's australian

  • @Bobbeization No, Aussie GM car.

  • Mind that tree!

    What tr...

  • ...ow

  • atleast the guy in the boot might survive

  • At least the groceries will be fine.

  • This car wasn't meant for safety of the people inside. It was made to save your cargo in the trunk.

  • like all holdens crumple like a can :P

  • YOU just said that :D

  • That should buff out!

  • crash your car LIKE A BOSS

  • This car is very flexible.

  • i know what to buy for justin beiber's birthday

  • imagine this at 70

  • Perfect demonstration of crumple zones.

  • твою ж мать! о_О wtf?

  • GM SUCKS ASS

  • @jason123456789210 this aint even gm smart azzz

  • @YaretziDelgado498 holden wasn't GM before 1931, it's GM from 1931-present

  • @YaretziDelgado498The Holden Commodore is an automobile manufactured since 1978 by the Holden subsidiary of General Motors (GM) in Australia, and, formerly, in New Zealand. In the mid-1970s, Holden established proposals to replace the long-serving Kingswood nameplate with a smaller, Opel-based model. Opel continued to provide the basis for future generations until the launch of the fourth generation in 2006, which deployed an Australian developed platform.

  • I think the crumple zone is in the wrong place

  • this is the top of the line safety pick of the year of 2011

  • Comment removed

  • Old cars are dreadfully unsafe, but are you sure this is genuine? It kind of looks like someone sawed some chunks out of the chassis to make that happen, lol

  • @DoctorBohr-Well, there is sand in the front-all of it, the car is tested at 62 Miles per hour, not 40, and it just demonstrates the capacities of a new crash test center. Another oddity is the dummy is in the back seat.

  • I found my new accordion!

This is the top pick of all mafia snitches who would get thrown in the trunk for betraying the family.

  • And some of you had the audacity to talk poorly of Holdens all this time...shame on you! :)

  • Holden = Hope Our Luck Doesn't End Now...

    (Holden - Australian for Chevrolet)

  • @rnigma Also Opel in Sweden.....wish there was Holden in Sweden ;o)

  • what's the name of the background music????

  • in russia this would be 5 stars rating

  • what's the name of the background music????

  • at least the back bumper is safe :)

  • Is that a dacia?

  • p.s bucket up for safety :P

  • yeah its not a commodore its the uk version with the 4cylinder they also made these in a coupe version check em out they are weird buggers of things but on the positive side these have a great crumple zone to reduce the amounts of g-force placed on a body (you'd be fucked if it had and air bag though)

  • That's called the Chernobyl on wheels effect

  • Opel Rekord E (1977–86) also sold in Australia as a Holden Commodore - The Rekord EI was the basis of the original 1978 Holden VB Commodore. However, to cope with Australian conditions it was strengthened substantially and used the Senator's nose (like the Opel Commodore) to accommodate the Holden straight-6 and V8 engines.

  • if u look close the inside of the doors still have the coke can print on them.

  • los chinos han perfeccionado el control de poblacion

  • like the music

  • whats wrong with the test? Looks good to me!

  • Who the fuck put that crappy shitmusic there?

  • @RostadeBiffen learn what is music idiot

  • That'll buff out.

  • not a commodore

  • At least the rear wheels are fine, and the girl in the trunk... :)

  • it looks like it was going 300 km/h

  • Bogans hoon drivers beware

  • hope justin bieber was driving it

  • So why do they let these old commodores on the road again?

  • it'll buff out :)

  • that tune sounds suspiciously like nine inch nails (the downward spiral)

  • dont worry our luggage is ok

  • MMmm---really not bad :-O

  • First thing I wanted to say was to be careful getting in a crash in one of these cause you'll have the engine in your lap. On second though, you won't have a lap!

  • i would buy that. at least for 2012

  • What they dont tell you is that this test is @ 62mph into a solid concrete barrier, not the regular test using an offset deformable barrier at half the speed.

  • @wackywheelz Not to mention that this is a test of the wall, not the car.

No dummies, and a boot full of concrete.

  • does the car even have a engine

cause the looks of it , it doesnt

  • i've heard of crumble zones but this is RIDICULES !! ..

  • That's not a bad crash, you just need about only 10 years to fix it!

  • this is a russian car

  • @The18Jake

No, this one actually is a car made by GM (General Motors-Chevrolet) GM Holden in Australia, sure Russian cars from that age aren't are much better either. :o)

  • @The18Jake

No, it’s not a Russian car. This impact was at over 100kph into a solid concrete block (not a deformable barrier) and the car had concrete in the boot. A new car would perform a little better - but at that speed even a NCAP 5 star rated modern car would not withstand that sort of impact - let alone anybody inside it.

  • At 0:20 you can see that its a 1992 because it says 09/06/92

  • @Gamefan396 the car itself isnt a 1992 model, but thats when the test was done. The car here is a 1978 - 1980 Holden VB or VC Commodore

  • and there were no survivors..

  • i just found the perfect car for my mother-in-law

  • Mother in law had one of these

    But never crashed it!

  • Thats not an old car. And look at the bog hanging out of it, obviously was fucked before they crashed it.

  • If you havent realized, the car is crashing into a concrete wall instead of the alloy you find in normal crash tests.

  • safest to be in the trunk

  • Makes me glad to drive my steel brick of a Chevy. Like a rock. A big, iron plated, depleted uranium filled ironclad of a rock.

  • Yeah but that car is being crashed at high speed to show what speed does, not the standard 62kph as most cars are tested at! Its quite obvious that would happen at that speed!

  • looking at this, it annoys me that people still think old cars were solid...

  • Its an Opal Ascona, its sorta like the VB Commodore but a bit different

  • Holden Commodore = Opel Ascona

    1979.

  • if you were kidnapped and locked in the trunk youd be fine

  • it had a sunroof lol

  • 100km/h into solid wall with 375kg of sand

Not as bad as you think.

  • @slipperybacon and without drive shaft.

  • Unlike modern cars, the crumple zone is in the middle.

  • They later sold that same car as a repairable write-off.

  • at least the booze in the boot is ok...

  • It's a 1979 Holden comomdore, the crash test was done on 09/06/92 date is on the door at the 21second mark. Plus the body filler breaks away from the rear wheel arch see 20 second mark, so it was a 13year old car with rust, but just how much rust? so how accurate is this test? And too all the greenies, this model holden only used 1/3 of the greenhouse gas that it takes to produce a preis

  • first of all dumb fuck that is not old, old is 1972 or before when America was still making cars with metal and before the smog shit started to compact the engines draining the hp and torque dramatically, not talkin about foreign shit before 72 either so before you and your but fucking Eco friendly liberals but fuck and whine about how my car gets 30mpg and helps save the environment try knowing what your talking about fucking idiot this is why there's a chimpanzee as president

  • @jeremiahskates What are you on about? I used to commute into London in the late 70s, and when I came home when I blew my nose, my snot was black from all the pollution. It was a form of poisoning for crying out loud! All the 'smog shit' and the 'eco friendly liberals' are the reason we have catalytic converters and unleaded petrol, and why millions and millions of people haven't died of cancer from the pollution. Grow up.

  • ...If only chavs were invented at the time this car was. :(

  • well thats death in a box

  • the car had no engine, thats why !!

  • @m3poower Oh yes, the addition of an engine would SURELY have made the crash SO much better... Dumbass you have no idea how these things work, do you? Sure, the engine might absorb a small amount of the force, but then what? The passengers hit a big block of metal. Still would have failed with an engine, trust me.

  • happy meal car!!!!! :D

  • da sie wyklepać jeszcze

  • i guess this test was done 09/06/92 the around the birthdate for vp,s

  • made of shit

  • Now I know what they do with old Melbourne Taxis:)

  • all crumple zone

  • lol. Holdens!

  • WHAAAAT?!?!?! just fold it up and take it home?

  • @AussieHoldenFan ROFLLL

  • Maybe your description should accurately describe the purpose of this crash, rather than pass judgement that is not based on facts.

  • The car has been loaded up with 300 kg of sand. That's not a real car-crash test.

  • driver has no chance, people in trunk would be safe though lol

  • Crumple zone

  • Hey ! Hot the car was tested but the lab. This test was at 100 Km/h and the car was filled with sand.

  • Relax, all right? My old man is a television repairman, he's got this ultimate set of tools. I can fix it.

  • aw come on, you can buff that right out.

  • At least the death comes quick

  • This is an awesome car for those who hate using their seat belts. They know they'll die anyways.

The trunk is 5 stars all the way. Anyone in the trunk will be well protected here. They'll come out walking with minimal scratches & bruises. And they'll be able to take the spare tire along.

  • actually i dont consider this an "old" car, old car to me means full frame rather than unibody. and this looks like one of the first attempts at unibody design. if youre going to judge old cars, make sure it's an old car first.

  • Opel or Vauxhall, I wouldn´t drive both, brr... now I know how a sandwich has to feel.

  • this is not a commodore, pause it and have a really close look.... it looks more like a 70's fiat/alfa style car.... probably license built by a company in russia, china or some other place

  • Does it have airbags?

  • lol

    For what? lol

  • This isnt a standard crash test, this was to test the limits of a new crash test facility, not the car.

The Commodore was loaded with some 400kg of extra ballast in the footwells, and fired into the concrete wall at 62mph / 100 Km/h vs. the standard 35 MPH / 56 Km/h full frontal tests you see.

Google this for more info: 1978 Holden Commodore Scariest crash test Top Gear Australia

  • IM GLAD I DONT DRIVE THOSE 0.0

  • EPIC FAIL

  • never ever seen this model anywhere...

  • its like a vc or vh

  • @krimnll, thank you, I hear that in Austrailia Holden makes some of the greatest cars ever built!! Id like to visit there someday and see what you guys drive. I hear that Aussies are really into performance cars. Just as much as here on the USofA!!

  • I've never seen a car like this model in the USA, where are these sold?

  • It is a very early Holden Commodore

  • @charger19691 Australia: It's a Holden Commodore

  • @charger19691 This is a VC Holden Commodore. They were built from 1980-1982. What you see here is a fake test. A car with half a tonne of ballast in the back, with engine and transmission removed. They are nowhere near this bad in a real crash test. To get some idea of what they really look like search "VC Commodore," "VK SS Group A Commodore," or "VH SS Group 3 Commodore"

  • that'll buff out

  • Car is full of rust too!

  • Oh wow, that is sad.

That could be a great product for people who WANT to die.

  • @GTARotator fucking peace of shit

  • @Redneckrocket33 Because you are a redneck you obviously want to die from this piece of shit the commies call "a car"

  • One less Commodore, WOO!

  • A little dent pulling and some body filler and she's good as new!

  • The boot and footwells were filled with concrete, the tailshaft removed, and the car shot at 100 MILES per hour (160 KM/h).

  • The dude in the trunk lives.

  • Poor wall

  • that's the truth... you aren't safe even if you're inside the trunk:P

however, i saw it some time ago on tv, this car hit the wall at 100 kph or mph.

Well.. try to do something like that in younger cars, only small difference, try to gain 100mph driving Smart and hit the wall, then.

  • HOLY SHIT !!!!!!

  • Commodores are all nothing but overrated peices of absolute CRAP!

  • the boot was filled with concrete and the tailshaft was removed...and this was at 100kmh.

    im not suprised.

  • @mozzaldinho What is your source?

  • 'O_O'

  • Good car for my wart filled 4th grade math teacher(i remember you kilgore!)

  • sad thing is; they made a "crash test" and saw that its soooo safe and decided to let go on production lolz.... ah well medieval times...

  • OMG!!

  • opel commodore.

  • You'd be surprised at how our modern Euro NCAP five star cars behave when crashed at speeds greater than 40MPH. Survival rates dramatically decrease at speeds over 40MPH.

  • Hmm. 1970s car, no structural strength, 20+ years of fatigue & rot, then 1 to 1.5 Ton of metal bars in the trunk. Watch the film, the trunk (boot) drives the whole structure forward right to the end. Ballast crash. Normally intrusion would only get to about the middle / rear of the driver door. Still would kill the driver, but hey. Been in crash testing 13 years, can spot a "ballasted" crash a mlle away - nothing crashes this way normally.

  • that was a mid 80's VL or VK

  • Hahahaha

  • it was a early 80's vb/vc/vh

  • whhhhaattttttt????? i can´t belive

    horrible

  • Good car for my boss.

  • this car was crashed at 62mph and had 200kg of ballast in the boot
