A the one second mark if you look closely at the rear door you can see the very end triangular part of the door appear, giving the C pillar its actual shape. I think it was painted and due to the low quality of the video it looks like its not there at all.
Compare with this test of a Santana, which seems to be at similar speed (around 100 km/h). I don't know whether teh Santana also has 300 kg load in boot, as this one has.
I've been looking around and seeing that might be a cheap Chinese rip off of a commodore and Iif u look at the top back Corner of the read window it's not right if this is ment to be a VB, VC, or VH
@YaretziDelgado498The Holden Commodore is an automobile manufactured since 1978 by the Holden subsidiary of General Motors (GM) in Australia, and, formerly, in New Zealand. In the mid-1970s, Holden established proposals to replace the long-serving Kingswood nameplate with a smaller, Opel-based model. Opel continued to provide the basis for future generations until the launch of the fourth generation in 2006, which deployed an Australian developed platform.
Old cars are dreadfully unsafe, but are you sure this is genuine? It kind of looks like someone sawed some chunks out of the chassis to make that happen, lol
@DoctorBohr-Well, there is sand in the front-all of it, the car is tested at 62 Miles per hour, not 40, and it just demonstrates the capacities of a new crash test center. Another oddity is the dummy is in the back seat.
yeah its not a commodore its the uk version with the 4cylinder they also made these in a coupe version check em out they are weird buggers of things but on the positive side these have a great crumple zone to reduce the amounts of g-force placed on a body (you'd be fucked if it had and air bag though)
Opel Rekord E (1977–86) also sold in Australia as a Holden Commodore - The Rekord EI was the basis of the original 1978 Holden VB Commodore. However, to cope with Australian conditions it was strengthened substantially and used the Senator's nose (like the Opel Commodore) to accommodate the Holden straight-6 and V8 engines.
First thing I wanted to say was to be careful getting in a crash in one of these cause you'll have the engine in your lap. On second though, you won't have a lap!
What they dont tell you is that this test is @ 62mph into a solid concrete barrier, not the regular test using an offset deformable barrier at half the speed.
No, this one actually is a car made by GM (General Motors-Chevrolet) GM Holden in Australia, sure Russian cars from that age aren't are much better either. :o)
No, it’s not a Russian car. This impact was at over 100kph into a solid concrete block (not a deformable barrier) and the car had concrete in the boot. A new car would perform a little better - but at that speed even a NCAP 5 star rated modern car would not withstand that sort of impact - let alone anybody inside it.
Yeah but that car is being crashed at high speed to show what speed does, not the standard 62kph as most cars are tested at! Its quite obvious that would happen at that speed!
You can recognise it from the shape. In Europe,it's called as Opel Rekord E1(Commodore 6 cyl.) 1977-1982.This car was tested with 100kmh to a solid wall and 375Kg of sand in the back.I don't think any car could make it......Maybe new cars had a little ''better'' result....The description is in another same video on You Tube.

It's a 1979 Holden comomdore, the crash test was done on 09/06/92 date is on the door at the 21second mark. Plus the body filler breaks away from the rear wheel arch see 20 second mark, so it was a 13year old car with rust, but just how much rust? so how accurate is this test? And too all the greenies, this model holden only used 1/3 of the greenhouse gas that it takes to produce a preis
first of all dumb fuck that is not old, old is 1972 or before when America was still making cars with metal and before the smog shit started to compact the engines draining the hp and torque dramatically, not talkin about foreign shit before 72 either so before you and your but fucking Eco friendly liberals but fuck and whine about how my car gets 30mpg and helps save the environment try knowing what your talking about fucking idiot this is why there's a chimpanzee as president
@jeremiahskates What are you on about? I used to commute into London in the late 70s, and when I came home when I blew my nose, my snot was black from all the pollution. It was a form of poisoning for crying out loud! All the 'smog shit' and the 'eco friendly liberals' are the reason we have catalytic converters and unleaded petrol, and why millions and millions of people haven't died of cancer from the pollution. Grow up.
@m3poower Oh yes, the addition of an engine would SURELY have made the crash SO much better... Dumbass you have no idea how these things work, do you? Sure, the engine might absorb a small amount of the force, but then what? The passengers hit a big block of metal. Still would have failed with an engine, trust me.
This is an awesome car for those who hate using their seat belts. They know they'll die anyways.
The trunk is 5 stars all the way. Anyone in the trunk will be well protected here. They'll come out walking with minimal scratches & bruises. And they'll be able to take the spare tire along.
actually i dont consider this an "old" car, old car to me means full frame rather than unibody. and this looks like one of the first attempts at unibody design. if youre going to judge old cars, make sure it's an old car first.
this is not a commodore, pause it and have a really close look.... it looks more like a 70's fiat/alfa style car.... probably license built by a company in russia, china or some other place
This isnt a standard crash test, this was to test the limits of a new crash test facility, not the car.
The Commodore was loaded with some 400kg of extra ballast in the footwells, and fired into the concrete wall at 62mph / 100 Km/h vs. the standard 35 MPH / 56 Km/h full frontal tests you see.

@charger19691 This is a VC Holden Commodore. They were built from 1980-1982. What you see here is a fake test. A car with half a tonne of ballast in the back, with engine and transmission removed. They are nowhere near this bad in a real crash test. To get some idea of what they really look like search "VC Commodore," "VK SS Group A Commodore," or "VH SS Group 3 Commodore"
You'd be surprised at how our modern Euro NCAP five star cars behave when crashed at speeds greater than 40MPH. Survival rates dramatically decrease at speeds over 40MPH.
Hmm. 1970s car, no structural strength, 20+ years of fatigue & rot, then 1 to 1.5 Ton of metal bars in the trunk. Watch the film, the trunk (boot) drives the whole structure forward right to the end. Ballast crash. Normally intrusion would only get to about the middle / rear of the driver door. Still would kill the driver, but hey. Been in crash testing 13 years, can spot a "ballasted" crash a mlle away - nothing crashes this way normally.
A the one second mark if you look closely at the rear door you can see the very end triangular part of the door appear, giving the C pillar its actual shape. I think it was painted and due to the low quality of the video it looks like its not there at all.
