I SERVED in the United States Army and though this law was in affect barring homosexuals and lesbians we had our share of homos and lesbians in our unit. I tell you I was raised with the belief that homo's and lesbians were fire bound in hell but after being in this war I have a hard time now believing in God. DADT doesnt prevent gays from serving in the military, as Obama said "...because of who they are.", it prevents them from openly engaging in homosexual activity on post or in theatre. DADT is good policy because it allows GLBs to serve in the AFs, but prohibits them from engaging in conduct that is bad for troop moral and prevents conflicts of interest.
Those so lacking in discipline or will power that this decision would actually cause them to resign should not bear the prestige of serving in our armed forces in the first place.

My father was in China in WWII, apparently that's where they sent all the misfits. He was a socialist, he said there was a unit that was all gay and another that was all Jewish. There have always been gays in the military, see also "Privates on Parade".

I noticed reading the comments section that everyone who disagrees with repealing DADT regardless of how respectful, fact driven or lucid their comments are has been given thumbs down. Right now, our enemies are laughing at us. China is laughing at us. Russia, Iran...they're all laughing. We are now considering making it Illegal to voice your opinion about our enemy or define Their terms of engagement...we're doomed. JOB 1 for POTUS is protecting our nation, this disrupts the chain of command.

Countries without militaries (Switzerland, Costa Rica, Leichstenstein, Tonga etc.) don't have wars.

What a stupid idea. Almost 1/3 of those currently serving in the USAFs indicated they would resign, or not re-enlist if it was repealed. DADT doesnt prevent gays from serving in the military, as Obama said "...because of who they are.", it prevents them from openly engaging in homosexual activity on post or in theatre. DADT is good policy because it allows GLBs to serve in the AFs, but prohibits them from engaging in conduct that is bad for troop moral and prevents conflicts of interest.

To say because Men dont want other men to make passes at them makes them unfit to serve is absurd. 99.999% of all men who serve in the AFs are heterosexual-They dont want another man making a pass at them, or a gay Lt. to have a conflict of interest-not sending his boyfriend's squad into harms way, instead sending theirs. The possible damage to the Chain of Command is reason enough. Gays are Permitted to serve in the AFs, as are Muslims-Neither has the right to force their pardigms on the rest.

@89MohaA No. Not even close. Computers have been around since WWII. The 1st computes were used to determine ballistic tragectories of Tank Rounds and Artillery. Zambia didnt even have Tanks or Artillery in WWII.

@Enantiodromialist Turing was an "early influence", he didnt "invent computers" or coputing for that matter. While his alogorithms played a role in modern computers, to say "a gay man invented comupters" is like saying Bill Gates invented operating systems.
