  • I'd like to see this done with tomb or tenth planet voices(very different but each should be interesting)

  • So much better! The original version was SO disapointing.

  • The voices sound a lot better here.

  • Comment removed

  • i liked that these ones had human voices. makes it more obvious they are actually like humans underneither

  • I don't think Christopher Robbie's voice is half bad, just the execution and dialogue.

  • @fucheduck Senetor John Kerry lost the '04 election with the similar execution of words.

  • Nicely done! While I agree that Revenge doesn't need to be tampered with to make it "better," it is cool to hear the updated voices with the old-school Cybermen. Always liked this helmet design the best. I dig the "corrugated" ears.

  • You should try Earthshock with these voices that would be interesting to see

  • @akumatekkusu666 I agree the Earthshock, Cybermen ought to have these voices that would be ace in billions of ways.

  • I definitely prefer this version to the old one. On the old one, they honestly sounded to me like Tom Baker with a high American accent and a bit of ringing.

  • Not bad, I watched the original, and this actually is an improvement

  • Don't like the cyberleader, don't think it works. But the other cybermen sound better.

  • I have read the original script, of this story which is ten billion times better than the version we have got here. I think in the original script, it is ten billion times better script than the finished programme. In the original script the planet of Voga, appeared but only in episode three and there were much less scenes on Voga in the original than in the finished script. In the original Voga was, originally populated by a colony of human gold miners with Welsh names. The original was better.

  • The Doctor will be worried about us!!

    Well I'M worried about us!!!

  • Somebody's probably mentioned this, but look at moment 1:00- The Doctor & two other captives are doing 'Hear No Evil-Speak No Evil-See No Evil'. I love that gag! Watch the original 'Planet of the Apes' court-room scene. The orangotan tribuneral do that classic and quite appropriate gag.

  • I think revenge of the cybermen was a lousy cyberstory and not as good as it should have been, I also think the sixties cyberstories were much better than revenge of the cybermen and earthshock . Earthshock was rather violent and very full of plot holes, earthshock was not as fun as the sixties cybermen stories in any way at all.

  • @rojblake82 IMO the Cybermen in this story seem camp and emasculated.

  • No criticism of this video but I've never been a fan of the new series Cybermen voices.

  • Elisabeth Sladen...She's so sweet...and same voice....:)

  • Absolutely brilliant!

    This is a huge improvement!

You have done a really professional and worthwhile job on this!

    I love it!

  • @DANNY45190

    Bit mean-spirited, don't you think?

  • @DANNY45190 how could you! I think this is brilliant

  • The original voice from Cyberleader Christopher Robbie was plain ridiculous...a sort of transatlantic non mechanical human voice.

  • Now do that for Cybermen in 5th Doctor onwards.

  • The Revenge/Invasion cybermen costumes of the early seventies are my favourite cybermen look. I hope that the new series will bring back the real cybermen instead of using the "cybusmen" all the time.

  • @xeractus: Cybus Cybermen. Cybus IS their brand ;). I like all Cybermen and all Doctor Who completely equal. Why can't other DW fans be like that too?

  • @MegaAstroFan18 I love the Cybus Cybemen as well! At least Russel made them emotionless like they were originally in the 60s.

  • Revenge of the Cybermen and Silver Nemesis are coming out on DVD in August. I haven't seen this story, so i'm looking forward to buying it =D

  • That's strange!! The video did not work for me!!! Even though my player is the latest upgraded version! :( :(

  • That's the optimum sound. 'Excellent' as an eighties Cyberman might say.

  • Is it just me, or does anyone else think the new Cybermen are.....crap

They're glorified automatons, robots. Shiney hard wired dalek fodder.

Whereas the late 60's to 80's Cybermen were sinister human derived

callous lovelies. Many a nightmare I have had being chased in slow-

    motion terror.

  • @git1958 Yes I agree with you I never seen the old cybermen in action but still. RTD's cybermen stories were never as good as over episodes seen but Steven Moffat Cyberman in The Pandorica opens was much better than RTD's.

  • I love the hear no evil, see no evil, speak no evil bit at 1:00. It gets me every time.

  • Much better! I like this design (mainly the changes made to the head) but the original voices ruined it for me.

The 80's Cybermen are my favorite. Their design and voices (mostly) are awesome!

  • @phillydisco - OMG, I've watched this episode a few dozen times over the past 15 years, and never noticed that!!! They are, hear no evil. see no evil, speak no evil!!! LOL!!

  • The camp cybermen! Lol.

  • I should comment on the voice. It's a good job simulating the new cybermen. But aren't the new ones actually the 'old ones'? I mean, they're the beginnings, so naturally their voices would be more electronic. Perhaps by this point in the chronology, you could argue that the Cybermen were able to successfully create more human-sounding voices.

  • The new one's are from an alternate universe not the first ever Cybermen

  • Every time I watch this episode, that little sight gag at 1:00 always gets me laughing. I don't know if many people nowadays would get it.

I like the old Cybermen. The new ones are alright, but I like the costumes in Revenge best. I wasn't crazy when they started showing the moving mouths in the Peter Davison era.

  • Tom Baker was a fantastic Doctor Who.

  • HARRY SULIVAN IS AN IMBECILE!

  • lol they got funny heads

  • They probably think the same way about you!

  • Cybermen have guns in their heads = Cyberman saying, "Betcha don't think its funny now." LOL

  • how did you achieve those voice effects? is there a programme you used? what was it called? can you give a link at all?

    Hazer.D

  • I used Adobe Audition for the vocal effects (the modulation option) and soundtrack mastering.

It's a bit pricey - I imagine there are programs around that do something similar.

  • @jamespotter76 HOG also works. Use Ring Modulate, and set it to 200. Thats a free option.

  • I reccomend the free software Goldwave, which ha a 'mechanise' feature.

  • @HazerD there is a free program called audacity, you will need killeringer, it may not come with killeringer but you can download it seperately, and there are tutorials or what settings to use on youtube

  • Cybermen remind me of the old Cylons

  • Can clearly remember this was the only series we could see in Italy on TV (about 1979-80). Also remember how Cybermen could scare me, especially when they shooted Doctor's friends by the helmet... I was only 8! Nice work, anyway!

  • great voices! now can you do something about the crappy special effects? :)

  • Here's a way- close your eyes, works wonders! But then, you'd miss a decent bit of 70's set design- bloody good for its day and the peanuts that went into it.

  • Wow! Great job!

  • Nice mate they sound better.

  • That's better......

  • Why do the Cybermen change in just about every story?

Tomb of the Cybermen and Earthshock bothhave different cybermen to this - and eachother.

  • They were divided into many different factions the cybermen The cybermen on this were the cybernomads the last of the cybernomads which explored the galaxy for centuries.

  • Unlike Cybus Cyberman, the Mondas Cyberman haven't fought as a 'unified front' since various sects scrambled off of Mondas in the early series.

Even in Earthshock that was just one 'group' of Cyberman - the most numerous group true enough - but not all of them. That's how they've always survived, because they're scattered all over the galaxy.

As for why they keep changing? Thats because the species they convert affect how they build and create new Cybermen over the centuries.

  • Brilliant you did a great job of this!!!

  • Great Cyberman voices but my favourite Cyberman voices were in Tomb of the Cybermen.

  • yes I prefer this to the original

  • Very impressive ! , the Parallel Earth Cybermen would be proud of you , assuming they know what that word means ! ,

    10/10 .

    Jason .

  • Silver Nemesiss has this voice pattern too.

  • the cyberleader's voice is different to the other cybermen in this one.i still have the bbc vhs of this

  • for my opinion, they sound great! for somthing that sounds like a microphone in a kazoo stuffed up ther nose, but as I said, they sound great

  • sounds good. BTW sarah jane was hot.

  • Revenge of the Cybermen is the first Doctor Who VHS I bought and I watched it till it fell apart, so don't think I don't like it. However, viewing it purely from a logical point of view with regards to both the fiction and the production a lot of it is flawed. Some consider this to include the voices. This was an experiment. Others like it. You do not. That's cool.

  • Were The Original Voices In This One The Deep Ones, Or The Robotic Ones

  • They were an early form of the voices used in the 80s, but with much less (if any) modulation. It just sounded like a man in a mask talking into a microphone.

  • @FoxCommand226 They were crap basically! These are spot on.

  • @FoxCommand226 neither

  • I must say this voice for the Cybermen actually beats the pants off any other Cybermen I've heard. Modulated so it sounds mechanic, yet with a little bit of a rising/falling sing-song-like tone. I like it, a good mix between machine and Human, unlike the ones in the actual show. The first Cybermen voices were too sing-song, the rest of the 60s were far too robotic, and the 70s-80s were far too Human and full of emotion. Now they're too robotic again, even with stupid computer-term dialogue.

  • actually I reckoned the ones from moonbase and tomb of the cybermen had better voice tones. and a better design as well

  • My favorite Cybermen are the TM and TTOTC same as yours. They looked and sounded great with that mouth flap they had. I must admit I like the Silver Nemesis ones as well. They turned Gold which is kinda ironic!!!

  • Good stuff. The voices we're a nice change.

  • 1:56 lmao

  • voga the planet of gold

  • Well, since I aimed to imitate the voices from the new series I'll consider your comment proof of a resounding success. Thank you for your gracious and incisive comment.

  • And a bit of Tenth Planet Intonation? Nice job.

  • this sounds on par with the new series

  • Who are you to judge? You can't even spell 'camp'!

  • i bet they did ,but the story is still great !

  • there voices were not at there best ,but that doesent make the story bad !

  • The cuber controller looks slightly gay at the start

    great voice work

  • This is so much better than those terrible American voices they started using from here on

  • The new series Cybermen voices are rubbish.

  • Like any good villain does!

  • cool but the tomb of the cybermen would of been better

  • i played them over eachother and stuff

and this is a great improvement to it

  • It's a definate improvement - if only they were a little more sinister.

  • I prefer this, the cybermen seemed emotional in this story but now they seem blank. But thats a good thing. Could you do one for the Daleks in Day of the Daleks.

  • I'm still working on my Dalek voice. It's not quite right.

  • Cybermen with emotions suck tbh

  • These are cool voices. I remember watching this when I was like 4 and being terrified but loving it at the same time.

  • Good stuff. The voices we're a nice change.

  • yeah sixties voices were the best

  • The Cybermen leader reminded me of a Lego man for a second!

  • The old cyberman voices were better.Deeper and more powerful.

  • I quite liked those old cybermen costumes it is so 1970s with those silver flare trousers and there silver belts wrapped around them and the torches they had at the bottom of there breathing apparatus. I think it all comes together they should bring them old cybermen back but with voices similar like the ones in the wheel in space drwho episode because I really liked them cybermen voices the best ones ever because the voices here sound similar too the ones in the knew serious but still good job.

  • shut it dick head hes allowed an opinion

  • very good

can you do Dalek voices as well?

  • Sounds like the new series Cybermen, which are technically from a parallel universe.

  • Which was the idea.

  • Well the new ones were based on the sixties voices dude.

  • they sound like the cybermen in the invasion

  • cool, try it with the 80s style voices/attack of the cybermen

  • great! good work

  • gotta love the classics and the voices are better i agree

  • Cool!! The original voices in this story are a bit dodgy, this redub is excellent lol. Give us some more James.

  • I dont like the new season cyber voice effects, I think it makes the diction terrible

  • to be quite honest i rather liked the old cyberman voice from the tomb of the cybermen, they sound more robotic and less humanoid

  • As great as the new voices and effects are in the New Series, the poor effects in the Classic Series are no reason to be putting the Classic Cybermen down.

  • chay

  • I wanted to see the b & w ep's with the really crappy cybermen. Especially, since MPT only shows Tom Baker's ep's over and over again, they're boring.

  • how did you do the cybermen voices?

  • See my reply some four months ago :)

  • Cool, they sound much better like this. One of my fave Who stories.

  • The voices from the 1960's "The Invasion" were high and chillingly odd yet effectively creepy enough. Tobias Vaughn's Cyberman communication device-a-jig had the best voice, though. It was quite hauntingly Cybermanny, like the "Tenth Planet" voices. You know, odd inflections on syllables, holding onto words for a tad too long.

  • The problem is that the 80s Cyberman voices (especially the Cyber Leader, David Banks) were so much more cool and menacing. The new voices just sound... very cheesy, I find. I mean, the 1960s Cybermen look cool and menacing, but their voices were never chilling.

  • Emotionalless and in mono.Good job.

  • Oooh, go back to your cartoons,

  • Wow, very well done!

  • Good job!

  • who does these Cyber voices? they are wonderful and really Dalektable

  • I did, thanks for the kind words!

  • ur welcome

  • Much better - no American accent for the Leader!

  • I neve rhad a problem with cyber leaders showing emotions it could be useful to them, I never had a major problem with the volcons on this story but I like this alteration they sound a bit like the 80s and invasion cybermen mixed togeather.

  • Very good. Now, about those voices in "Day of the Daleks"...

  • how do you do such a good cyberman impression

  • Lovely - well done Mr Potter!

  • I highly approve!

  • Amazing!

  • I really do think the cybermen from the 5 doctors are regarded as the classic cybermen-and they die quite loudly

  • The new cybermen voices sut these cybermen there original voices where crap! P.S. how did you replace the voices?

  • I'm gonna guess that the original sound was recorded, played thru a ring-mod on a high frequency then mixed in with the original sound as not to drown out any background sounds.

The cybermen voices from this story were particularly naff.... This has made them better

  • I agree!

  • Close. I recorded the dialogue myself (yes, that's me doing the voices) so that I could easily edit out certain words and phrases. That was then cut in amongst the original soundtrack using Adobe Audition 2 and then placed over the video. Certain parts of the background noises were roughly looped to play underneath the new dialogue in order to make it seem part of the original video. Glad you like it :)

  • Cool, and very clever, but how did you actually do such a good impression of the new voices? By the way, UKTV Drama is currently screening this serial - it rules!

  • A) I'm a Doctor Who fan since birth and I know how these things talk like the back of my hand

    B) I do a fair bit of acting and I'm a pretty good mimic and

    C) It's possible to do the same sort of voice treatment using Audition :)

  • Replys:

    a) I know how the new Cybermen talk, but I haven't necessarily heard all the classic Cybermen speak;

    b) I kinda do a bit of acting, but I ain't a very good mimic!

    c) Can you tell me more about Audition?

  • Audition is a sound-editing package from Adobe. It features a number of editing, effects and post-production tools as well as a feature-rich multi-track mixer. You should be able to find more info on Adobe's website.

  • Oh! I'm guessing that this "package" costs money, so I probably won't be getting it anytime soon. However, I might be getting Audacity soon (although it probably can;t do this)!

  • That works really well...funny to think that removed a lot of the emotion in a performance would improve it, but where the Cybermen are concerned (and compared to Robbie's funny but unsuitable take on it) it fits nicely. Well done!

  • Excellent. The cybermen as they should sound. Emotionless and camp free. My hat's off to you sir!

  • very good. i found it hard to believe it wasnt the genuine cybervocals. very nicely done

  • This is a definite improvement. I find Christopher Robbie's vocals on this entertaining, but nonetheless it's hard to take the Cybermen seriously. I don't know - maybe because they hadn't done a Cyberman story since 1969, they'd forgotten what the Cybermen were supposed to be.

  • Thanks Chirst. The original cybermen in this story were as camp as christmas

  • WoW can you do this for power of the daleks

  • No. Mainly because I don't have any video footage of 'Power of the Daleks'. Nor does anyone else.

  • Well what about The Daleks 2nd episode?

  • Then I would have to question: why would you want to? Day of the Daleks I could understand and maybe I will once I've mastered doing a Dalek (it's a lot harder both technically and vocally) and have some time on my hands but that's the only story where the voice is crap enough to warrant it.

  • Ok good with me do Day of the Daleks.

  • Resurrection of the Daleks could really use a heavier usage of the ring-modulator.

  • @HoraceAndTheSpider And Revelation of the Daleks!

  • I like it!

  • Great voices!

  • David Tennant's doctor lookes a lot like Harry Sulivan!

  • great job new voices work

  • It always seemed a shame to me that the very poor quality of the original voices with an awful Transatlantic edge ruined what were well designed Cybercostumes. These new voices are superb.

  • This is excellent work. I like how you have introduced a hint of the elongated vowel sounds like the Tenth Planet Cybermen. Very well done.

  • Very good

  • u shud this 2 the bbc they might consider putting on the dvd as a special feature 2 watch the movie with new voices

  • i dont get y ppl dont like these cybermen! it was a great story with some cool cybermen n a fantastic doctor

  • Thats pretty cool. If I did it, I would have just affected the original dialogue and not redone it. But nice work.

  • Good modulating, but I was rather hoping you would flatten out the inflections of the originals. They still don't seem quite calculating enough.

  • I did consider this and in redoing the dialogue I did edit it quite a bit and change certain words. However in the end I decided that a voice completely lacking in emotion wouldn't fit with Christopher Robbie's Cyberleader strutting around with his hands on his hips! So it's a bit of a halfway house, really.

  • Lol yes that camp posing is one thing I guess we can never escape from!

  • the voices are similar to the the new cybermen, it is great
