  • WTF on Cartoon Network

  • Is it just me, or does the banana sound like Mr. Bean??

  • Dougle is a big puffy mop with anti gravity propulsion.

  • i just wanna know what the hell the storyline in the original french version is lol :)

  • This is the funniest episode I've seen on YouTube, the moment Dougal starts talking to the fruits I couldn't stop laughing. They don't make them like this any more!

  • Like it

  • Like it

  • what drugs where they supposedly on? i would love to know :) x

  • @Soph3331 LSD I reckon. That kind of thing would definately make you see talking fruits. LOL

  • yay this reminds me of drugs =D

  • would you like a squeeze?

  • That film should be burnt alongside Transformers 2 and Indiana Jones 4, travesties all 3 of them, justget some new ideas and stop ruining my fond childhood memories :(

  • man da film was waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay better than this crapy piece of beep

    sorry seriosly come on

  • @Autismmom614 You have no concept of charm...

  • @Autismmom614 the film of the this is total crap. the CGI ruins it. anyways it isn't the only film

  • doogle was weak as piss,.

  • Was that the father of Emma Thompson, Eric Thompson? He was hyper-creative. The original French stories are not as extravagant...

  • @LiberdadeHedonista Yeah he was Emma Thompsons dad. And yeah he created some quintiessential quirky englishness with The Magic Roundabout. It was all a little tongue in cheek, and reminded me very much of Tony Hancock and Sid James with Dougal and Brian. Totally creative and brilliant :)

  • (About the pink banana)

"Good heavens! Whats he come as?"

Well, a subtle innuendo there, I do believe...

  • Thats Recorded from Cartoon Network UK & Ireland in the 90s its not a Cartoon but they aired it

  • acid head

  • Florence has funky hair!

  • i remember watching this at like 3 am on cartoon network

  • This is NOT the original version: this was a remake done in the late '90s. The voice is Nigel Planner of "The Young Ones" fame. Totally redone. Look for the original and best: Eric Thompson and it was out in the late '70s... I'm 43 and it's wonderful to still remember Zebedee shouting: "Time for bed, time for bed...!"

  • @lorcain Not quite a remake: Nigel Planer voiced another 50 episodes in 1998 that had never been done by Eric Thompson. He deliberately aimed for a similar style.

  • @mooncowtube as explained in the Documentary, 'The Curse of the Magic Roundabout'

  • @kravan1

It was a french show. The english dubbed version doesn't even use the same story line as the original french version! It was all made up by the british! lulz!

  • @hiero3 It might cost them like thousands of pounds to translate the whole storyline, maybe £50 per sentence.

  • Funny! Cute!

But what are "100's and 1,000's"?

  • @LaJewel Hundreds-and-thousands are a sort of multicoloured sugary pellets for spraying on cakes or ice cream.

  • You'd call them SPRINKLES...

  • Dougal was such a badass!!

  • hah at the bannana - "HELLO!"

  • I was born 1964 so i remember The Magic Roundabout thanx 4 video clips.

  • does anyone know where you can watch the original eps of this on the internet??? coz i cant find any :(

  • lmao first the fruit now the vegetable

  • Nigel planer just has not got it,

    Eric Thompson rip

  • This is nice... I know why they dont repeat it though.. the magic roundabout was orignally based on drugs but they got away with this then coz lil kids have no idea what it means.. nowdays its a diffrent story..

  • It was nothing to do with drugs! That's an urban myth.

  • Not directly based, but their is a lot of influence from the hippy culture of the 60's. A lot of the stories are similar in thought and flow to the the things that go through your mind on hallucinogens.

The shapes of all the grasses and leaves are silhouettes of various types of marijuana, and the Cow chews coloured flowers not grass, and moves like someone in opium delireum.

It's innocent, and its fun for adults too, but the subtext is their; not that it's a bad thing, or spoils the show.

  • any hiddin gay induendos? hahaha!

  • OMG brings back the 90's for me!

  • Was this series always packed with such subversive humor? I'm dying to see more!

  • Originally the series was French, but when the BBC got hold of it, Eric Thompson completely disregarded the orginal script and instead wrote it all himself.

I took the series for granted as a kid, but coming back to it now, I finally see the (not so) subtle humour.

  • @phocjame Try watching it with the sound off, it's bizzare. What the hell did the French show their children xD. Eric Thompson's interpretations are brilliant.

  • fruit cocktail partaaay!

  • L ovely S et D esign...

  • I'm an Eric Thomson fan. MR was nevr as good after Nigel Planer took over!

  • Zebadeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!

  • Bloody brilliant, and now we all know why are mums and dads sat around snorting and snickering at this stuff. Classic script!!!

  • Much as I like Nigel Planer I can't help but think that to re-do Thompson's Magic Roundabout narration is borderline blasphemy.

  • this brings back memories

  • LMFAO .. 8 )

  • only in the 70's.............fab

  • 'That Dude ' is 'Nigel Planer' ( the hippy from the young ones )

  • The original English versions from 1970s was voiced by Eric Thompson (father of Emma Thompson) - who didn't use the original French scripts. Nigel Planer only did the remake versions - 1990 or so, I think, and didn't use either the original French or subsequent English. I think other people have revoiced the series as well.

  • Dougle was soo cool.

  • he's a legend =D, kinda reminds me of Tony Hancock hehe

  • @giv123 Dougal! But he is very cool :-)

  • Ah, nostalgia...

  • Anche tu lo vedevi?

  • I used to love this girl's high top kicks,when i was a kid.eh?........ah,i get it....the whole gay thing.......ho hum

  • such memories used to love Doogle great show thanks so much for this

  • oh dear, I can just SO identify myself with Dougle - not good, innit?

  • HA ha! this is bloody hilarious!

  • i see things like this when i get high

  • 'That banana is asking to ave a bite taken out of it!'

    LOL

  • i don't think this was any good for kids and to think i use to whatch this stuff, i think its more for adults

  • origanally called Banana skin

  • I saw this version of the episode on Cartoon Network.

I kinda prefer Eric Thompson's stories

  • lol 3:22

  • join the happy throng, mingle with the multitude. we're all mad here - mad, mad, mad, mad!

  • omg dougal got harrased by a gay banana

  • lol - "I'll probably get cornered by some boring old fruit" gotta love Dougal

  • I too, am angry that I was exposed to this as a kid. To make it worse, it was my first TV watching...no wonder why I'm screwed up.

  • I haven't forgotten about this vid... I just can't remember XD

  • The weird discordant signature tune (that no sane person would write for very young children!) allied to the roundabout is a hypnotists dream... then along comes a story that strengthens stereotypical personality types that us poor kids in the 60's had to endure. Pure unadulterated brainwashing. Now look at the world we've got! Bill Bailey correctly made the occult connection in his brilliant comedy sketch, but I bet less than 1% of his audience did!

  • Hmmm... and parents wonder why their children take lsd, shrooms and other substances when their childhood practically revolved around the imagery shown here... I'm becoming LSD curious just watching this...

  • lol this is so wrong! :))

i used to watch it at innocent times, of course I never caught all the double-talk :)

also reminds me of my university days gone by though :(

  • This isn't the original - this is the 1992 series narrated by Nigel Planer :/

  • oh my gosh this is has soo much naughty double entendre!

    I love it = D

  • You're telling me! XD 'I've never had to make polite conversation with a fruit before... what do you say to a pink lemon? Would you like a squeeze?'

  • This is the best thing I've ever seen

  • Many couples have a similar experience when they first indulge in wife swapping or 'swinging'. The original French script for this episode was intended as a thinly veiled manifesto in support of the practice of pansexual promiscuity which was the writer's raison d'etre.

How it got past the censors we will never know. Not fit for children.

  • I met that pineapple at a party once. Yeah, she was a total bitch then aswell.

  • "Time for bed!" said Zebedee.

  • ...He uses the word "said" too many times.

Maybe I shouldn't be so bloody picky...?

  • its a childrens show and tbh when I used to watch this, i never noticed, I love it

  • me neither! Lol i was kinda joking, but you can't put tone of voice into youtube. I watched it when i was a kid, and i didn't notice either.

  • "a melon with skin problems" Laughin My Fuckin Ass Off

  • the colours are bright as fuck. I think if you were to watch this on pills, cid or shrooms you'd probably freak out.

  • Did Nigel Planer actually like "write" this as it were.

  • this is so much funnier when you're not little. When you ARE little, you just like the stories.

  • I watched this when I was a kid and now I love anything that's even remotely psychedelic.

  • I loved it too. I love Nigel Planer's voice. He's good at narrating. He's so good at comedy acting also...

  • I'm 40 years old. I was watching The Magic Roundabout in 1972 when Nigel Planer was still at school. lol.

  • I'm 14 years old, and was watching the Magic Roundabout in 1994, when the best part of Nigel Planers career was over...last thing I saw him in was flood last year...

  • This is the best cartoon ever made! I Fukiin Love It! && Dougle and the blue cat, is the greatest film ever! =]

  • Dylan is a RABBIT!

  • Dylan is a RABBIT! who smokes weed.

  • I know Dylan is a guitar playing rabbit, who on reflection is quite like Neil. I was talking about dougal when I said it was a dog with the voice of Neil. Sorry for confusion :)

  • sound as. never meant any confrontation.

  • thanks :)

    Wasn't trying to confront you.

  • Also takes shrooms :P Ever seen Dougal And The Blue Cat? xD

    x

  • haha what the rabbit takes shrooms? that rabbit partys hard.

  • I just watched a clip from that Dougal and The Blue Cat you told me about. It was the 'Buxtons test' scene haha what the fuck.

  • this is awesome, i'm the lovechild of dougal and zebedee (acording to my college tutor)

  • "if i have to talk to another melon with skin problems ill scream" thats only the comedy someone fulla weed would understand. not a child.i dont care what anyone says, this cartoon was made for watching whilst stoned.once there was an all nite magic roundabout thing on cartoon network...that was hardly for some insomniac 5 year old.i LOVE it

  • yeah maybe...like "ha ha haa it's a dog with the voice of Neil from the young ones..."

  • Because we are from England, my mum watched this as a little girl, and I watched when I was little. I watched this, Rupert, Paddington Bear, Postman Pat, and of course Thomas the Tank Engine.

  • I wish someone would upload more eps! :(

    i love watching this!

  • aggreed! and the herbs! we lost our tapes of the magic roundabout and the herbs.

  • Oh yea! The herbs! lol i used 2 love watching that 2! xD i miss the classics :(

  • this is such a stoer cartoon love it lol

  • so bladdy random LMAO

  • it wasnt that the english writer chose not to use the french script, its that when the english bought the episodes the script didnt come with them so they had to re-write the whole thing.

  • the guy who originally wrote was a fruitcake in himself he was a stoner

  • has nobody else realised florence has a giant set of pubes on her head.

  • I want to know what the French storyline was... I bet it's not half as interesting.

  • when was this on Cartoon Network?

  • The "dude" who wrote it was Emma Thomson, the actress's, Dad

  • does it agitate anyone else that they're never still? it was really starting to bother me...

otherwise a great show- cheers for uplaoding!

  • shrooms

  • the magic roundabout wat a show a still cum in wiped out watch dem shame its nat on tv anymore

  • lol, what u said there could easilly be read in a completely different way :/

  • I never realised how much of a peroxide blonde Dougal basically was (tart).

  • So nostalgical.

Just look at the channel name, Cartoon Networks, it was so old back then.

  • Right said Zebbardy so Zebbardy did all over Dougles head. My Dad used to say that when he was a kid. I remember the Magic Roundabout. It used to be on the childrens programmes before the Hoobs started on Channrel 4. First it was like the Clangers, then another Clangers episode. Then The Magic Roundabout 2 or 3 episodes of that then 2 episodes of the Hoobs. And then a full episode of Sesame Street. I so love the Magic Roundabout. What is the name of the little girls name with red ribbons?

  • Do you mean Florence?

  • No shahafsagi she is on riding on the magic roundaboat and she has red ribons in her hair and she has two pigtails in her hair with red ribbons in her hair. Who does the voice for Florence and Dougal? Do you know who's the narritor for the magic roundabout?

  • Oh I see.

And I don't know the name of the people who speaks for Florence or Dougal, or the narrators for this series, but I'm guessing only 1 man is making all the voices.

  • I think it was Eric Thompson who did all the voices here - He was the actress Emma Thompson's father!

  • Hello Rincebox

The voice in this episode of magic roundabout sounds like Nigel Planar to me. (Remember he played Neil in The Young Ones?)

I think Eric Thomson did the voices at least on some of the episodes.

Good to see the Magic Roundabout again.

I thought that mabe Dylan was supposed to parody Bob Dylan, or mabe just Dylan's song "Rainy Day Women". I dunno though.

    Cheers

  • You're right, it is Nigel Planer. The thing is, this episode is actually a re-make of an original episode that Eric Thompson narrated. Nigel Planer narrated new stories for the same films in the 80s or 90s sometime - I think it was meant to bring the stories more up to date or something...

And you're right, Dylan is based on Bob :)

  • Ha Ha

    Hi BenBanjo87

It's amazing that people know so much trivia isn't it?

I just knew there was someone out there who knew the facts. Well done.

    Thanks for clearing that up.

    Cheers

  • Lol, no problems! Sometimes I worry that I know too much trivia - glad to find someone who appreciates it! :D

  • Hey BenBanjo87

I had a look and I found the magic roundabout website magicroundabout (dot) com.

At bottom right of the website you can see they made a computer generated image movie of the magic roundabout.

I then google "magic roundabout movie" and the website imdb has the details.

    Brilliant!

Checkout who's doing the voices. Looks great. I've gotta see it.

  • Florence is the main girl, Rosemary is the other one. The two boys are Paul in the tracksuit and Basil in the shorts. Ermintrude the cow, Brian the snail, Dougal the dog and Dylan the rabbit. The two old men where called Mr Rusty and Mr MacHenry and of course Zebedee on a spring

  • would it be considered unethical to eat a talking banana?

  • IF I SEE THAT FUCKING BANANA AGAIN

  • i love it...it's actually really funny

  • No wonder our generation are a bit nutty...haha

  • Agreed. :]

  • ok someone has sliped me a tab of acid

  • i <3 the magic roundabout..

  • zebedee was on speed lol they were all definately on drugs

  • lol turn the sound off and play 70s music. bingo u found insanity, or lsd, wichever way this still gets wierder

  • Jesus, I feel like I'm on drugs even watching this. The talking banana? Why does everything move around randomly whenever it's talking?

"What do you say to a pink lemon" - but the lemon is fricking ORANGE! Why write that? AAAAGH!!

  • florence is a bit of a tang

all dougal wants to do is mong out on a pack oif shrooms n toke sum reefa

  • BOING BOING BOING WENT ZEBEDEE

  • I seem to remember watching the French version when I was a kid (my mum's French and she had a tape), I think the original version made more sense- yes, I do speak French :)

  • well the bloke who made the british one got the tapes and scripts off the french but threw the scripts in the bin. He decided what was said himself

  • And he was high.

  • where the fuck is zebedee!!

  • I've never forgot The Magic Roundabout! It was my favorite "animated cartoon"!I miss my chilhood... Anyway great video, thanks for posting it.

  • "i've never had to make polite conversation with a pink lemon before!"

  • Good lord, when I watched these I never followed the stroy lines. obviously had no idea what was going on!

that theme tune is terrifyingly piercing! ah the memories.

Does anyone remember when Florence suddently when bald!?!?!

  • That was extraordinary. I haven't watched The Magic Roundabout for 30 years, and I clearly didn't understand any of it when I was when I was a kid.

  • Did the little boy on the roundabout in the beginning just stick his fingers up? Otherwise, what a wacky show. My mum used to watch this.

  • this whole episode seems to be the fleeting daydream of a person on acid staring at a bowl of fruit.

    brilliant

  • I would actually bet money on it that the creators of this show got high before writing it

  • These are later voiceovers... this is not Eric Thompson's voice because he did each character specially.

  • Dude: I Think im on a drug trip...

  • Please could you upload the episode where dougall or a cow broke something?

  • You know, watching some of these episodes again, Dougall sounds extremely racist. ^_^ And I can't stop laughing at the whole thing.

  • Utterly loopy... or should I say fruity? Love it!

  • That banana wishes Dougall would take a bite... haha fruity bunch indeed

  • lol hilarious!

  • dude.. wots with the hovercraft dog?

  • this was the most amazing show when i was younger. makes more sense to be called magic mushrooms hehe.

  • seriously i said it before and ill say it again, with shows like this growing up how were we expected not to be drug addicts in later life! i was at party exactly like this one time, pink lemon and all!

  • I loved this show =] It was ace!!

  • wow this brings back memories the last time i saw this.. they were still selling 4 star at tesco! lmao!

  • theres are so about drugs man !!!!

  • i have 3 of these of vidios and i have to watch them when ever i get stoned, doogle soooo funny!!!!

  • oh do you have three VIDEOS of the stoned rabbit and the retarded dog

  • HAHA the stoned rabbit!

I almost forgot about that druggie.

  • they are all got drug reffrences eg

dougie the dog - addicted to suger and is very fast

    ovously speed

and the magic roundabout it about tripping out x

  • Superb, it was removed by the BBC when they realised Brian appeared to be constantley stoned & Zeberdee appeared to be wizzin' his head off, shame!
