I remember being in grade 5 watching this. There was something about that years toronto run. I hate the leafs but that was probably the one year in my leaf i cheered for them.
Well people said like they werent getting along because of something to do with how they did things on the ice and off. Although, Errey says that was never true, but Larionov has never said anything about it.
A week or so ago, this game was shown on Comcast Sports complete with intermissions and technical difficulties (San Jose had to switch to the French Canadian Radio-Canada feed midway through the third period). It was great watching hockey from that era again.
Damn, u gotta wonder wat might have been if in Game 6 if Garpenlov didnt hit the crossbar and actually scored or if Ozolinsh took the shot instead of passing when he shouldnt have, where the Sharks might have gone from there. I think they wouldve gone all the way to the finals.
Agreed. What could have been I guess. Then again saying that imagine if larionov wasnt injured in the first place for a portion of that regular season. They won 30 games with larionv in the line up and with out only one 3. Perhaps is larionov wasnt injured they maybe would have placed higher then 8 seed in the first place, and maybe those upsets wouldnt have been considerd upsets in the first place.
Well, they probably wouldnt have been as big of underdogs as they were be4, but compared to Detroit at da time, well, they had guys like Steve Yzerman,Sergei Fedorov,Paul Coffey,Dino Ciccarelli, etc., the Sharks still wouldve been underdogs. But still, that Sharks team was pretty damn good.
It would've been interesting seeing 8th place take on 7th place in the conference final. The Canucks could've actually had a challenge in the conference final lol.The Leafs were too easy.
Yea, you coulda had the story line of larionov coming back to vancover to, to give it a little bit of hype as well. And the whole paval bure being argueably the games most exciting player at the time, with irbe being at the time the upcoming exciteing goalie from his performance that season. Definitely woulda been exciting.
Why did Toronto play in the Western Conference when they clearly in the East? It's probably cuz the league coudn't get enough teams to play in the West.
We almost had Toronto in game 6 before we had to loose 4-2 in game 7

@skateboardnow No doubt...These intense playoff series of years past were alot of fun to watch; don't see this kind of passion in todays game.

danynumero6 3 years ago
The Leafs moved to the "western" conference in the 80s because Ballard wanted them to play in an "easy" division (the Norris).
filrut 3 years ago
Were they not that good and was the East just too hard for them?
