What ammo do you carry in it? I have a S&W M67, it's the adjustable sight version of your gun. In the home I keep it loaded with Remington 125gr. SJHP +P. I carry Hornady 110gr. +P Critical Defense ammo in my pocket carry J frame M442 revolver. Love the 38spl and S&W :-)
Thanks for the video, I just purchased a used S&W model 64, but it's not the NYPD version. I like it very much, can't wait to bring it to the range. It feels so solid and well built, and easy to club someone in the back of the head with if you're out of ammo : p
I owned many rifles including an bolts. lever actions and one AR when I lived in NY..but when we moved to GA a few years ago i started buying handguns off gunbroker...I bought a few bottom feeders.. the first being a vintage1911...but then i bought a 1971 19-3 Smith and Wesson and it was all over for me...Ive bought nothing but pre-lock S&W's since... I had always thought i would prefer auto's.. but that turned out not to be the case.. 1911's are great guns.. but i bet my life on wheelguns.
Also, I would trust my life with this gun. I can't say the same for a glock or some other semi-automatic. From my experience at the range, I have not shot a semi-auto pistol without it having some type of jamming or other problem. With a revolver like this, never a problem.
Excellent firearm. My father just retired after 20 years in the NYPD and carried this gun on-duty everyday. When they switched over to the semi-automatics he chose to keep carrying this. I'm going into Law Enforcement (either NYPD, secret service or us marshals) and hopefully, he'll give it to me someday. Thanks for the video, stay safe.
wow, shot the ny-1 yesterday bullseye at 25 yards on the 2 nd shot and so on etc.Ill be putin a review soon.A very fine firearm geat 1 or 2 if you can.
I just got my ny-1 from J and G sales. It is perfect!!! It looks it was carried more then shot.Im off to the range tomorrow.will let very 1 know how she does.
thxs again for vid you are right on the money with the NY-1.what do you recomend on the ammo for selfdefence thxs bennra
Hi , I realise the hammer is bobbed, but will it fire single action if you grab the remaining nub and cock it or has it also been disabled internally ? Ironicly I was just recently looking to buy one online with a bobbed hammer. Just wondering if you could purchase a hammer ,install it and then have the revolver as it origionally was ? I know double action is legally safer for law enforcement, but I wish to use it as a range gun. Thanks for your time, keep em coming !
@carvinrigged On this particular Smith, you can only fire in double action mode. It's modified that way from the factory as a safety precaution for the NYPD. Trigger pull on it is fairly heavy but I still love my 64. Thanks.
@thehotsixer I've noticed that most older revolvers are not sellable in CA, You may want to check with a local gun shop to see what they are selling. Take care.
@hungtonight Hey, there. You got a real nice piece. I'm a bit old-school with firearms, too. Except I'm 15! I'm aspiring to be a city police officer, but I know I'll end up being stuck with a Glock or an M&P Auto. Wish I could carry one of those. What department are you with? A Sheriff's Department, or are you like a Dallas PD officer?
Great gun, have one with the skinny barrel. As far as a duty gun, you can't beat the tapper ware guns. Much easier to carry all day and easier to hit with. The bigger capacity is an added bonus.
@Aussie038 I would like to get one with a skinny (pencil) barrel. It seems like if you see one for sale, the owner is asking for a small fortune to buy it. The skinny barrel 64s are early 1970's vintage.
@greenthousands I still love my 64 and carry it on duty daily. I just wish I would have held on to my 64 with the 2 inch barrel. Sometimes the need for cash makes you do stupid things.
You know something when I was working armed guard for FHA officer in the mean tough streets of Chicago, I had a guy from the neighborhood ask me that same question. At that time I was carrying a 357 smith 686 model 4" barrel and I told him, one thing about a revolver vs a semi is that it works all the time, you can't go wrong with a revolver and he said to me. Man you're right about that.
I used to be a Brink's guard as well. I've always liked the 64. I plan on picking up a 67 in the future to add to my collection. Does J and G have a website so I can check them out?
@hungtonight : Nice video, I am a sixgunner too, An old police sargeant once commented that none of the police officers that were under his command that PRACTICED RELIGIOSLY with their service .38 ever had a problem in a gunfight. He also commented that if you need more than 6 rounds in such a fight.....you're probably dead already. I believed him.
@EL3minutero I agree. Most folks that carry semi autos tend to use the spray and pray method whenever they're involved in a gunfight. I figure the less rounds you have at your disposal, the more effective your shot placement will be. Thanks for tuning in. More reviews to come.

Like any other classic .38 caliber revolver (.38 Special or .357 Magnum) this
historic, versatile, and venerable handgun remains practical for the average
"honest" free thinking voting age citizen. Not just for self defense/house protection
but likewise for the great outdoors. Loaded with .38 Special 148 grain lead
wadcutters this revolver will cover the spectrum from small game hunting:
rabbit and squirrel, dispatching vermin: raccoon, skunk, possum, etc., to
rattlesnakes (shot loads).

@bennra26008 A good revolver should be left as it comes from the factory. Never modified.

Picked one up for $275. Great shooter, car gun, and not that bad to carry under certain circumstances.

@ressikanflute I have a Hoffner's CCW inside the pants holster that I carry mine in. It tucks away pretty easily.

Thanks, Bill. I fired a 64 and fell in love, even though it was a range rental. Nice groupings, smooth trigger pull, and nice lines.

That's the exact same revolver I carried as a Brinks guard. Super reliable and are accurate. The NY-1 means a 12 pound DA trigger pull.
