THe water is 4.2 miles wide at the bridge. The locals claim some of the approach lenght to get to 5.

hey man. i am a local... i live 15 miles away. and we dont like to get technical...theres a little more to it that whats over the water.

Crossed it in March. My odometer recorded just about 5 miles from the point where I went over the first "support pilar" (???) in Mackinac to the last pilar on the St. Ignace side. The straits themselves I believe are 4.2 miles wide.
