Dude, let's not forget that the TEA parties were started by WeAreChange and Campaign for Liberty. They have been doing this for a while, since Bush in fact, with little to no MSM coverage. The FOXNews co-opted the event as a way to create opposition to Obama and to create further division among ignorant masses.

The real issue here isn't about Obama, it's about the Banksters, The Fed, and corruption.

I agree with Ron Paul that states should be allowed to succeed if they wish to-but it would be ludicrous for Texas to leave the union just because they don't like the current president.

I don't think it's unreasonable to call successionists 'un American' either-if you don't want to be part of the USA, how much more 'un-American' can you get?

...and I think you are missing the point of people that MIGHT want to secede. THEIR point (not mine) would be something like - "America is no longer American."

I.e., We are moving away from the basic principles of individual freedom and responsibility that made this country great.

And no, I don't think I am missing the point. I agree that states should be allowed to 'secede', but I think it's something that definitely shouldn't be done lightly-Only in the very extreme of situations, and I don't think this is that -AT ALL.! What I think this is is a wave of hysteria amongst the right wing which the likes of Glen Beck have whipped up for their own advantage. I doubt people really want to leave the USA so they should just calm down.

Lets be real here-Obama has been in office for three months, and these people are up in arms about things-many of which are actually Bush's policys (eg. current taxes), yet they weren't in the streets against him. Most of these teabaggers are simply Republicans who are sore about losing the election. Breaking away from the USA out of sheer spite about the president would be sheer madness.

I agree...but legit conservatives (like Ron Paul) were complaining about the bailouts (and govt spending in general) when Bush was in the office.

Yes, a lot of people have probably jumped on this bandwagon since then just out of spite of Obama (which is lame).

However, if you (and Garafolo) actually listened to one of the more sane "teabaggers," you might agree with their message - i.e., Govt spending/taxes are way out of control; it's been that way for a long time; it's only getting worse.

I respect RonPaul. Most of these teabaggers I have little or no respect for. They are mostly representative of the Republican party which despite all their blowhard rhetoric are more in favour of 'big government' than the Democrats. They're the ones who run up huge deficits, they're the ones who are constantly trying to invade people's privacy.

rickelmonoggin, I have to disagree with you. Sucession was put on the table by our Founding Fathers as a last resort for our states to maintain sovereignty against a corrupt Federal Government. Freedom and sovereignty are the principles of our Nation. The idea being, we will succed before being slaves to our Government. But there are the Virginia and Kentucky resolutions of 1798 which talk about Nullification, which is what we really should be talking about.

With respect, James, I don't think you are disagreeing with me. If you read my last post, I fully support the right of states to secede. I just don't know why they would want to right now.

Frankly I think this was just sour grapes from republicans because they lost the election.They are essentially going through the 5 states of bereavement, and this was the bargaining phase. This time next year, I expect them to have reached 'acceptance'.

The USA seceded from england because of George the III and the stamp tax, the CSA seceded because of Lincoln and the Moril Tariff (tax), and Texas can secede if Obama raises income tax.

The issue with Britain was 'no taxation without representation', in other words, it was pro-democracy, not anti-taxation.

The confederate states tried to sucede, and if you recall it didn't end up too good for them.

any state can seceed at any time. the states created the federal govt.; the federal govt. did not create the states. plus, the 16th amendment(income tax) was never properly ratified by the states as a constitutionall amendment, this has even been stated in California Supreme Court. THE STATES DON'T NEED PERMISSION FROM THE FEDERAL GOVT. FOR ANYTHING THAT IS NOT EXPRESSLY LISTED IN THE CONSTITUTION, THAT IS THE TENTH AMENDMENT!!
