I agree. As a black female, apologizing for something that happened so long ago doesn't bring me solace in any way shape or form. What does bring me hope for the future is the fact that I do see an American president of color, more people of color (not necessarily black) are getting their educations and trying to better themselves. But on the other hand I would like all those in poverty, since I have learned it is a pattern or cycle, to educate themselves on how to break that cycle.
There's a lot less workplace racism than one might think. Some business owners may prefer hiring whites or asians, but why is that? They are not KKK members with a fanatical hatred for blacks, they probably just had some bad experiences, so they are more careful and perhaps a bit reluctant to hire blacks. That's not racism, as it's not driven by any racist agenda, rather than based personal experience. Blacks need to work hard & not expect affirmative action type treatment in the workplace

There will never be empathy for slavery. That's why there is always someone who totally dismisses slavery when it's brought up as if something of that magnitude is irrelevant. Everyones hands are dirty from slavery including U.S. Government and corporations like Lehman Brothers, Aetna ( who apologozed for it), Johnson & Johnson etc. Reparations were given to Japanese interned American camps in WWII and 181 ethnic Japanese from Latin America who suffered similiar treatment. So why not blacks?

i believe due to segregation of the black community as well as the experiences of older generations. Black and white culture has almost segregated itself over the past 100 years into two similar but very different cultures. There is beauty to be found in every culture. Don't close your mind because it's easier to see another race as inhuman or capable of things no person from your race is.

I agree. As a black female, apologizing for something that happened so long ago doesn't bring me solace in any way shape or form. What does bring me hope for the future is the fact that I do see an American president of color, more people of color (not necessarily black) are getting their educations and trying to better themselves. But on the other hand I would like all those in poverty, since I have learned it is a pattern or cycle, to educate themselves on how to break that cycle.

There's a lot less workplace racism than one might think. Some business owners may prefer hiring whites or asians, but why is that? They are not KKK members with a fanatical hatred for blacks, they probably just had some bad experiences, so they are more careful and perhaps a bit reluctant to hire blacks. That's not racism, as it's not driven by any racist agenda, rather than based personal experience. Blacks need to work hard & not expect affirmative action type treatment in the workplace

i didn't say it as a general statement. from my own personal experience, yes, I've had some blacks in my business, who stole from the company and had a bad work ethic. we've still got one black guy working for us and he's great.
what i said was, that I can understand people being reluctant about hiring blacks. I am and I can assure you, I don't have a bigoted bone in my body. I would never say all blacks are lazy. But hiring blacks didn't go well for me for me is no longer worth the risk.
