I like Dirk, Pau, Pedja and other european players in NBA and maybe if they had played in the late 80s they would have dominated also but they didnt. European players back then, specialy from YU first won everything in Europe and then came to NBA and proved themselfs... Zdovc, Djordjevic, Petrovic, Danilovic, Perasovic, Komazec, Kukoc, Paspalj, Radja, Savic, Divac, Vrankovic.... the best team ever asambled... they would literaly kill todays teams including USA.
Galis was great,... scoring mashine, Drazen took it to another level shooting from a drible, hiting loooong range jumpers, Sabonis was a monster with his assists, hook shots bloks and 3 pointers..... But Toni Kukoc was all that in one, ultimate team player who could score zero points and still be best man on court. No one won as many medals and championships as Tony did. I watched him in 91 he had like 12 block shots, and 11 steals in the game, all that with his 360 dunks and asists... GOAT
@peskelj I totally agree with you.Galis was the ultimate scorer and was capable of handing out many assists as well.Petrovic was probably the most genuine talent that European basketball ever produced.Sabonis might have been the best European player ever if it had not been for injuries. But Toni was really something else.He won everything and almost always dominated either offensively or defensively. His performances with Jugoplastika Split,Benetton Treviso,Yugoslavia and Croatia were astonishing.
Galis was 183cm and he was scoring so easy against tall players and good defenders! !No one like him. The best european players: 1.Galis 2.Kukoc 3.Petrovic 4.Nowitzki 5.Sabonis
All better than Galis ? No way!! Galis was a warrior non of this players that you mention have the heart of Galis. Maby Petrovic but Marciulionis? please!!! he didnt born in USA he was rised in USA. Man Galis for himself led GREECE to the gold in 1987 eurobasket scoring over 35 points a game. Peyrovic, Kukoc, Sabonis and Marciulionis were playing in superteams. Galis was alone. I am not european and i played at international level in the 80s. And you are right about Bodiroga maby top 60.
Yeah, thats true that Galis played alone, but that mean online one thing - if he had been played for any of "superteams"(Yugoslavia or USSR), he wont look so good.
ps. about Galis birth: "born July 23, 1957 in New Jersey, USA" wikipedia
You know i didnt want to answer back you comment but i have to. Is not realistic to say that because Galis played in euroleague with great teams and score over 30 points per game not to mention that Galis is 8 times champions in Geece league. Did you know that Galis played in the NCAA with Seton Hall 1975 to 1979 and score over 27 points per game and was draft in the NBA from the Celtics but he refuse to play and go back to Europe? Marciulonis better than Galis? Maby Petrovic was better.
Look i am from Puerto Rico and i played at international level. When i went to Spain in 1986 worldchampionships i saw how great players like former USSR and Yugoslavia teached us how to play. You are from Lithuania right? Thats is a great country man. Did you know lithuanian platers with the former Ussr like Valdemaras, Belosteni, Karnisovas they were great players to. For me the best lithuanian player and one of the best of all times was Arvidas Sabonis he was a teacher in the court.
this was a very complete team all players can shoot from long distance, good defense, they all are great ballhandlers, they can run the court. this style is old shool basketball
no sr the first five are PG Drazen Petrovic, SG Tony kukoc, SF Oscar Smith, PF Jose Piculin Ortiz, C Ardibas Sabonis. Galis was a great player but for a point guard he shoot to much, i dont think he was a natural point guard like Petrovic he was a great shooter and a great paser to.
No.1 0 1st five PG Nick Galis SG Tony Kukoc SF Dejan Bodironga PF Dino Radja C Sabonis No.2 backup PG Aleksandar Djordjevic SG Drazen Petrovic SF Predrag Danilovic PF Zarko Paspalj C Vlade Divac
Hello! I have many games on dvd,Drazen Petrovic( 100 games ),Cibona,Jugoplastika, Croatia, Ex-Yu, Nba,Europian cup, Europian chanpionship, World chanpionship... ( 400 games ).If someone interesanting for this games, ,or have some games for exchange, please send me message.

Galis was born in New Jersey so technically he is American. But it was a time were well versed with basketball fundamentals. Very sad

Best European players ever?
1.Petrovic
2.Sabonis
3.Marciulionis
4.Nowitzki
5.Kukoc
They all were better than Gallis. By the way he's not 100% european, because he was born and raised in USA.
ps. forgett Bodiroga in European Top 5 ever. It's just ridiculous. He won't in top 10for sure, and even in top 20. Maybe he can be listed in top50.

I think that todays USA national team would be at least 10 points behind against this team,
and I am sorry to say but the best 5 euro players come from ex yugoslavia
Nobody mentioned Kresimir Cosic, he was even better than Drazen

PF Gasol
C Sabonis
There is no doubt....

PG Nick Galis
SG Drazen Petrovic
SF Dejan Bodironga
PF Tony Kukoc
C Sabonis
I know that Bodironga is mostly a guard and kokoc a small forward than a power forward but i think this starting five would be europe's all time best
