Bullfighting is such an incredible sport, due to its cultural significance. I, personally, am sad that many young people in Spain aren't interested and because of this, the sport is fading away. I have never seen a bullfight, but I have been to an arena in Spain. (Not in Madrid, though) It may or may not be a bit cruel to the bull, but it's tradition, and that makes EVERYTHING okay.

If you listen to Weasel Stomping Day by Weird Al, one line is "It's tradition, that makes it okay!". I support bullfighting anyway, but not just because it's tradition and I also eat meat. Bullfighting is just as bad, or good, as football (American football). I normally am not a fan of old traditions, but this is one that I like.

The concept of a bullfight doesn't bother me, but the way it's done nowadays does. If it was a true contest of man versus beast with no handicaps on either side, such as simply giving the matador his cloak and weapons, I would be okay with it. Let the victor reap the benefits of victory (put the victorious bull into a career of breeding, let the victorious matador have his fame). Dooming the bull to fight to the death already wounded versus a team of matadors isn't sport. It's ritual slaughter.
