This is the classic "spew/vomit" method. Just get the shit out creatively then go back and make it sound good, flip the samples/patches. This guy will not keep the stock sounds for the final track, in fact this track will probably never be touched again by him once he sends it to the group. Then a real engineer will come in and make it sound good.

@thewakz Agreed! a composer is different than an engineer. Composer = creates, Engineer = makes every instrument sound good. This was a sweet example of composing a song.

He gets a basic beat going so that he can focus on writing a hook and lyric that he likes... then he goes back and works on perfecting the beat so that "people don't want to separate it from the lyric." How can haters be criticizing his use of presets when he's doing exactly what he says works for him? He got to his lyric and now he'd go back and perfect the beat. Geez people, how many hit songs do YOU have?

@donlon77 You should start everything flat first, then focusing on the getting the right sound on each part (bass, beat, etc). Then you can make it even beefier by making great EQ adjustments.

I don't know of any other music production software company that has such an aggressive ad campaign to show people that professionals use their software. It makes me think Propellerhead is over compensating for something. I mean if it's truly up to par, wouldn't its reputation get around on its own. Don't get me wrong, I love Reason but all this promoting has me suspicious.

@Telekon5 The problem with Reason is that it's not really stand-alone recording software. It's a basically an instrument used in conjunction with Pro-Tools, Logic, or even Sonar as part of a piece of music. Propellerheads just wants to make people more aware of their software and how powerful it is. You can see he's using Logic with Reason in this video. That's the idea Propellerheads wants to get in people's heads. Personally, I love Record and Reason because the two work seamlessly.

This was the way I was using Reason since version 2.5. The combination of Reason with ProTools was the perfect Production DAW.

Now that Record is out I don't have to use ProTools.

@Eviltroy2 +1...although, I feel like I should go open up PT and dig in a little further...I got Record, and now I can work much faster than rewiring, and my (underpowered) computer doesn't blink. ReWiring was always a CPU DRAIN.

@StatuaryErmine I think he's just playing it but his controller is registering AfterTouch messages. At least that's how it looks when I use my MPK49.
