fantastic drummer.. in this album with aghora (the best one) with death in gordian knot and c-187 sean shows than some aliens came to his room and instaled an experimental program for drumming in humans, he was the only one
When ever i saw Sean or Paul, they were working so hard, practicing everytime I saw them!!! They would practice 12-14 hours a day or into the night into the wee morning hour's when everything was quiet.
The remastered version sounds really good. It is a lot better at not having one note bass through out the whole album and has a better sense of clarity
agreed on most points mentioned here yet .. BUT .. I always had and still have the problem with Sean that he seems to me a bit tooo much. He has all the skills, the feeling for rythm, tones and music but a bit less would be more actually. Instead of carrying the the music he is overplaying it sometimes and the also mentioned "Human" record is a good example for it.
@GaryCancerTrue, He stayed at the studio at night practicing,I would visit him & his dog Carky at studio#20, I was in Studio #12. I remember when he got the little keyboard, didnt take him long to figure out the sequencer, Sean & Paul are very smart, both are as nice as can be.I spoke with Paul a few day's ago,he said they will have jet lag big time in Atlanta after returning from Australia.Sound's like their having fun.18year's have gone by fast, sheesh!,seem's like the other day.
Human is damn near perfect. If Masvidal's leads were a little better I'd take it over ITP... My favorite album of all time period (With TSOP close behind) Death is just simply the greatest thing to ever happen to metal (Next to Slayer of course)
Stene Reinert is my GOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I wish I had just 1% of his skills. Can anyone tell me the name of the song? Or is it just a drum solo or an instrumental intro...? Anyway need the name of that track!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I do believe Sean Reinert plays for cynic currently, but has played for death and gordian knot as well. I get to finally bless my ears with his drumming on Sunday Feb. 15th 2009 while on the meshuggah tour.
The song is called "Existence" off of Aghora's self titled album. The whole album is unbelievable...as is their second album. However, the second album replaced the singer, drummer, and bassist and became the Santiago Dobles show. But the new members DEFINITELY held their own. Check it out.
Great musician and person. I was lucky to play at the same venue as cynic at progpower europe 08. Great show and great people all of them. Sean is king!

Im not sure how you people are arguing between the signature of 3:4 and 6:4, so please explain. If it were up to me, it could be either, though it would be so much easier to put it as 3:4. If you truly wanted to decipher between the two, you'd have to look upon where hes putting the beat emphasis. And since this is a drum solo, I'd say its nearly impossible, since hes been so creative with his patterns. But prove me wrong.
Its a 3:4 brother, no minimum doubt. 6:4 is a 'complex measure', i dont know how u say that in english, but thats the word used in portuguese. It means that in its formula, each tempo is divided in three notes, not in two, or it should be a 'simple measure' as a 3:4 and as what Seans playing here.
Look how the keyboard accents are put every third note... and in between them u can count 'one-two, one-two, one-two'... Thats an 3:4, or 3:2, doesnt matter. But not a 6:something, cause that would be a whole other souding, whole other story.
Search for simple and complex measures in some theory site. U'll get it right away.

he is so very best in the world. He is the father of a whole generation jazz metal drummers coming up right now. TesseracT, By Night, Mutiny, Closer are some of the bands using his bass drumming. It took 15 years after the release of 'Human' before someone copied his style of 32:nd note bass dumming.
It almost sounded like if he had kick-ups at one point, "didn't know what he was doing or something" did anyone else hear it? He was still mostly in time but, Im really happy with this, it's niceee :P
