  • Damn this is awesome.

  • What in the world is the song he's playing to?

  • Sounds like Existence by Aghora... One of my fav songs by that band btw

  • @5678Kirill thats us in aghora right on!!! miami dade comm. college studios.

  • @xdux studio M

  • Counterpoint absolute!!!!!!

  • At first i thought he was drumming to chocolate rain.

  • this man is the shit most technical drummer that has ever sat on a drum set.

  • @johnny7998 Don't know about most technical, but IMO the best. He has an unbelievable ability to take technical beats and make them sound organic.

  • My favorite part was when he hit the drums

  • It's too bad this good of a solo, was recorded with such a crappy device...

  • @ILLTAKEONE

Despite being recorded with a shitty device, it still sounds beautiful.

  • CRAZY TIME

  • sean reinert and gene hoglan are the best ever

  • @ronaldmcdonald333 My best friend, who claims to be the biggest Death fan ever, says it's all about Christy, but I agree with you completely

  • @outlawdad74 well christy is just as good, but i am biased lol i grew up listening to these guys

  • @outlawdad74 I agree with your best friend.

    Christy and Hoglan

  • what's this from?

  • @ethanbowen666 Existence, an Aghora song.

  • 0:02-0:04 SICK!

  • The best of the best drummer!!

  • no doubt. i can follow this guy endlessly and never get bored how how he does what he does

  • what song is he playing ?

  • @batmayn123 and @joedeshields ,

this is from the AGHORA song called "Existence"

  • @batmayn123 existence by aghora

  • check out the ghost at 0.30

  • @zealberg he's most likely playing behind a drummers sound proof barrier, and someone is walking behind the camera.

  • simply fantastic.none better

  • fantastic drummer.. in this album with aghora (the best one) with death in gordian knot and c-187 sean shows than some aliens came to his room and instaled an experimental program for drumming in humans, he was the only one

  • what is this from?

    Cynic rehearsal?

    and when?

  • @joedeshields

recording with aghora in the studio

  • Sean is god

  • When ever i saw Sean or Paul, they were working so hard, practicing everytime I saw them!!! They would practice 12-14 hours a day or into the night into the wee morning hour's when everything was quiet.

  • His performance is one of the main reasons Human is such an enjoyable album for me.

  • in my opinion human and symbolic or one of the best sounding death albums

  • I wish human was mixed better, it really didn't do Sean any justice at all, in my honest opinion.

You can't hear a lot of the cymbals and the notes kinda get drowned out at time...

  • The remastered version sounds really good. It is a lot better at not having one note bass through out the whole album and has a better sense of clarity

  • I agree

  • Ya, but his Double Bass work on the album is incredible, and was definitely revolutionary. Not to mention he was 18 during the recording.

  • agreed on most points mentioned here yet .. BUT .. I always had and still have the problem with Sean that he seems to me a bit tooo much. He has all the skills, the feeling for rythm, tones and music but a bit less would be more actually. Instead of carrying the the music he is overplaying it sometimes and the also mentioned "Human" record is a good example for it.

But he is great drumer ... no doubt bout that

  • Keep in mind that Sean was maybe nineteen or so when Human was recorded, eighteen or something years ago...

  • @GaryCancerTrue, He stayed at the studio at night practicing,I would visit him & his dog Carky at studio#20, I was in Studio #12. I remember when he got the little keyboard, didnt take him long to figure out the sequencer, Sean & Paul are very smart, both are as nice as can be.I spoke with Paul a few day's ago,he said they will have jet lag big time in Atlanta after returning from Australia.Sound's like their having fun.18year's have gone by fast, sheesh!,seem's like the other day.

  • He celebrated his 19th bday whilst recording HUMAN .....\m/

  • @ozzybob talents as Reinert, Masvidal, Schuldiner were desirabled to record one of the best metal record EVER. Human is unnatural stuff.

  • ...Have you listened to Gordian Knot and Aghora? There is basically none of that in his progressive projects, mostly just death.

  • Human is damn near perfect. If Masvidal's leads were a little better I'd take it over ITP... My favorite album of all time period (With TSOP close behind) Death is just simply the greatest thing to ever happen to metal (Next to Slayer of course)

  • i like this backing track!

  • one of my favourite drummers, amazing...

  • had the honor to meet you in turkey , i would kill to see cynic again!

  • Amazing drummer

  • Did an amazing double bass performance on Death's Human album!

  • double bass is the least amazing thing he did on Death's Human album

  • i know, but still to be mentioned!

  • believe me is not the least at the way e's playing the double bass

  • human is a downright fucking masterpiece

  • @spurious

Human changed the way I thought I could phrase death metal drumming ENTIRELY!!!!!

  • @spurious Yeah, the doublebass on that disc was perfect, but he just shreds my ears with every little stroke.

  • @spurious Lol I suppose you rip his double bass drumming from Human with ease :)

  • @Chaanee Yea, but I've been playing a while. 2 things:

    Quality is not merely difficulty

The double bass is the first thing you'll rip with practice of off Death's Human

  • @spurious Righht

  • Amazing everything performance on Death's Human album!

  • sean is amazing as usually :)

  • Holy shit. Better than the album version. Reinert is God.

  • 61218 comments... That tells ...

  • Thats what i call i COMPLETE DRUMMER!!

He can Play from Jazz, Metal, Trash,Salsa to WAWANCO!!

DAMN IT!! THE BEST DRUMMER IN SOUND , GOOD TASTE.

    MAY SEAN LIVE FOEREVER!!

  • The track is called "Existence" by Aghora. PLEASE check out this bands albums. They are UNBELIEVABLE!!!

  • thanks a lot for the information!!!!!!

  • Stene Reinert is my GOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I wish I had just 1% of his skills. Can anyone tell me the name of the song? Or is it just a drum solo or an instrumental intro...? Anyway need the name of that track!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I'd say its some sort of backing track.

  • Aghora's first album!

  • I do believe Sean Reinert plays for cynic currently, but has played for death and gordian knot as well. I get to finally bless my ears with his drumming on Sunday Feb. 15th 2009 while on the meshuggah tour.

  • How was the show? My friend was at the same one. (Chicago @ the House of Blues.)

  • wait wait wait, someone wiser than me, tell me. Sean reinert plays for Cynic...and??

    And what song is this?

Message me please! I love cynic, and reinert's work has always been a big inspiriation for me. I'd love to listen to any other tracks he';s played on

    in b4 troll

  • This is from Aghora's first album.

  • The song is called "Existence" off of Aghora's self titled album. The whole album is unbelievable...as is their second album. However, the second album replaced the singer, drummer, and bassist and became the Santiago Dobles show. But the new members DEFINITELY held their own. Check it out.

  • HOLY SHIT!!!!!

    YEEEEEY!!!!

  • Got to see Cynic with meshuggah yesterday, this guy was mindblowing

  • same here, holy fuck that show was too nuts. cynic just blew everyone away

  • YEAAAHHH

i just got back from that show in Denver. Didn;t stay for meshugguh. Cynic was godly!!!!

  • holy shit! YAAAAAAAAAAAY! lol, you rock

  • Besides Hoglan, My favorite Death drummer. This is pretty cool actually.

  • Great musician and person. I was lucky to play at the same venue as cynic at progpower europe 08. Great show and great people all of them. Sean is king!

  • I kind of think Deen Castronovo is Better

  • Sean rules!!! Focus and Human are bibles for me personally. Gordian also rules.

  • sean= drum god!

  • YAAAAY! what an awkward ending to a terrific solo.

  • the video quality sucks real man.

  • What song/album of aghora is this from?

  • Existence - Aghora (2000)

It´s the final part of the song, leading to a fade out.

    Cheers!

  • Fantatic drummer but it's not a solo, he's recording for AGHORA.

    Excellent footage.

  • amazing. inspiring.

one of the best metal drummers ever...without ever recording a blast beat or worrying about how many BPMs is the standard on the latest "fast metal album"

  • bradkunt - THANK YOU, finally a voice of reason in all these "death metal" vids i check out. By far, any good MUSICIAN will realize that FEEL is much more important than speed, quality not quantity. This guy is one of the FEW death metal drummers that is musical and tasteful.

  • Sean does both you know.

He is pretty damn fast too.

Check out Flattening Of Emotions, from Death's Human album.

  • I agree, I have his Death and Cynic albums, VERY tasteful and powerful drummer.

  • i think blast beats are awsome and tasteful. Plus he does blast beats in his new album, which is badass

  • Im not sure how you people are arguing between the signature of 3:4 and 6:4, so please explain. If it were up to me, it could be either, though it would be so much easier to put it as 3:4. If you truly wanted to decipher between the two, you'd have to look upon where hes putting the beat emphasis. And since this is a drum solo, I'd say its nearly impossible, since hes been so creative with his patterns. But prove me wrong.

  • Its a 3:4 brother, no minimum doubt. 6:4 is a 'complex measure', i dont know how u say that in english, but thats the word used in portuguese. It means that in its formula, each tempo is divided in three notes, not in two, or it should be a 'simple measure' as a 3:4 and as what Seans playing here.

  • Look how the keyboard accents are put every third note... and in between them u can count 'one-two, one-two, one-two'... Thats an 3:4, or 3:2, doesnt matter. But not a 6:something, cause that would be a whole other souding, whole other story.

Search for simple and complex measures in some theory site. U'll get it right away.

  • Who's Ringo Starr?

  • Ringo Starr is outdated and so are the Beatles, this is the future man.Get with it.

  • was a joke dude! a joke!..

  • good joke. I, for one, appreciated it. Has Watts learned how to hit the snare and hi-hat at the same time yet?

  • with his bus-pass in one pocket and £50 million in the other, i dont think the old-boy gives a shit!.. or ever did!.. bored be the face!. bored be the drumming!

  • ha ha ha see now i`m laughing lol. no i mean it ha ha ha

  • are you a drummer by any chance?.. always takes them that much longer to latch on!!

  • Actually i`m a guitarist but i indulge also in drumming on a occasion.Well drums were my first love but since i live in a condo i can`t have a set

  • FantaStic I mean, typo.

  • i really hope you're trolling and not just totally clueless wsforestry.

  • dont think many people type in 'sean reinert' and not know what they are looking for!.. sorry to anyone who didnt get the most obvious sarcasm!

  • but if you were transcribing it the keyboard riff is the constant so it would be 6/4

  • it can be 6/4, 3/4, 6/8, its all a matter of perspective and all can be correct depending on how it is transcribed. He changes the focus of the beat several times and plays 4/4 even over some of it to create a polymeter.

  • Anyone having a video showing someone to play even nearly the same stuff - message me!

  • its not in 3/4 its 6/4

  • Sean fucking rules, Cynic forever!!!!!!!

  • You go, boy! That was fucking awesome! So many different combinations and blending them perfectly into a simple guitar line is art. Now this seems a hell of a lot of work for the bassist, hehehe. Steve DiGiorgio, anybody?

  • right on man!!

  • this is talent and creativity.

  • formless is superb. omg sean reinert is one sun o'a BIATCH!

  • Fucking magic.

  • he is not human...

  • OH my fg!!! I just saw him gig GRASPOP with Cynic.I stood in silence most of the concert like the rest of the crowd. There was no CHANCE following his drumming. What Sean Reinert does that makes him the best is he is blending 32:nd notes of all sorts (most notable are the double bass drums) with SURGEON precision into the beats consisting of.. uh there is no beat. Not really. He syncopes the whole sh'bang. It's so bloody different. It was a great experience WITNESSING him drumming. JAZZ METAL!

  • DEATH - HUMAN ........amazing

  • he is so very best in the world. He is the father of a whole generation jazz metal drummers coming up right now. TesseracT, By Night, Mutiny, Closer are some of the bands using his bass drumming. It took 15 years after the release of 'Human' before someone copied his style of 32:nd note bass dumming.

  • you mentioned TesseracT, Have you seen them? I've just heard their songs on mypace? What I've heard is amazing. Have you heard of Candiria?

  • this is by aghora, it is santiago dobles's band. nice

  • isn't this a bit similiar to the joe satriani song "always with me always with you"?

  • Sean Reinert is the man. Hope of seeing him this summer with Cynic :)

  • The album "Formless" is really cool!!! The previous one was great too.

  • "Existence"

  • Anybody knows what song from Aghora belongs this solo part to??

  • oo cameraman, next time please shoot from behind.. so i would know how this maestro does the magics...hohoho

  • Whoa this guys good-

I saw just Tomas Haake site him as an influence o.O

  • Aeon Spoke now, huh? I miss the old warehouse in Kendall, FL. The only drummer I've had lessons from. You rock Sean! Say Hi to Paul for me! Damion

  • I loved his work on Human. Gives the album so much...more

  • It almost sounded like if he had kick-ups at one point, "didn't know what he was doing or something" did anyone else hear it? He was still mostly in time but, Im really happy with this, it's niceee :P

  • He's just too good, lol

  • so good listening.

  • too bad cynic never recorded an album to their demos from 1988, 1989 and 1990.... a great band and with atheist another origin of technical death metal.... they´ll be back in 2007

  • thats my band!!!

  • One of the best drummers of all time!

  • Gimme some friggin Autopsy!! This guy rules!! Way too underrated!!!

  • the song is called existance by the band aghora (witch sean played in)

  • SEAAAANNNN!!!! My favorite drummer for sure.

  • I LIKED HIM WHEN HE WAS IN DEATH

  • incredible and unsung!

  • Incredible Drummer, who is sometimes overlooked.

  • My absolute idol. Just perfect, he gives the songs what they need in a very complex way, but making it all sound very natural. He doesn't sound like overplaying like Richard Christie does in some songs, even thought his patterns are usually even more complex than Christie's ones.

  • i soo miss Cynic, im soo glad of tier influence on soo many bands! thanx for the post -MAVIII(progulus.com) what song is this, and where is it from?

  • "Existence" from Aghora's s/t LP . Wonderful song.

Entire LP is awesome and pretty unique.

  • This is probably one of the most unheard of drummers in the metal scene, i miss Cynic alot. no matter how many times i listen to sean reinharts playing theres always another layer of drumming that jumps out at me. His combination of jazz and death metal drumming is not something many drummers can display.

  • well done man!

  • amazing, Sean is the best!!

  • This definitely is the most adept drummer metal has ever seen. I especially love his work with Gordian Knot. He really knows how to fully incorporate various styles of drumming, with an unobtrusive taste that blends so well with that band.

  • amazing............

  • My favorite drummer that has played in metal. Period.

  • Haha I filmed this video!!!!! At miami Dade Community College Studio. We where recording the Aghora Album.

    www.aghora.org

    -santiago

  • Hahahahaha, so you're the one who screams like "yeeeahh!!" xD. I feel so envious!!

Hehehe, isn't it funny to come across a video you filmed yourself? :P.
