gypsy music is sometimes played on a seven string russian stlye guitar with speicla tuning, but can also be played on a six string. He seems just to play with an accoustic with nylon strings with standard eadgbe

"Classical guitar." It's different from an acoustic because it doesn't have a metal rod in the neck and therefore can only be strung up with nylon strings (steel strings would ruin the neck!). It also seems that classical guitar seems to work well with the rumba style, as the nylon strings are much easier on the fingers than steel strings...too much information?? =) I wish I could speak Romani...

Haha, I'm sure that you'll still be able to. You'll have the hollow body to slap on. If you don't play guitar it might be easier to learn on because classical acoustic guitars tend to have thinker necks...I'm not an expert, this is just from observations that I've made. Maybe ask someone at a music store for more information. Good luck! ^_^ There seems to be a slew of instructional rumba videos here on youtube.

i hit the strings with my fingers when i strum up by pulling them almost into a fist and at the same time hit the body with my thumb. then i hit the body below the strings. i guess the patter is something like

hit-strum-thumb-strum
