  • I did what you do, I even have better Insulin Pen then you do & I even bought sweets encase I went hypo for precaution but to bad.....

    :(

I'm "Trypanophobia" can someone tell me how to solve this fear of medical procedures involving injections?

  • excuse my ignorance, I am very curious as to what else in your life has changed, besides self injections, since you were diagnosed with diabetes.

  • @NannyGadi This is a great question. I could answer it several ways, Such as, what has changed in the way I treat my diabetes or what has changed in my life because of diabetes. Well when I started testing my Blood Sugar I had to place a drop of blood on a strip, wait a few minutes, than wipe off the blood to what shade of blue and green it left. Then match that color to the side of the bottle for a blood sugar range. Then a few years of doing that the LifeScan Onetouch meter came out.

  • why don't use insulin pump ???

  • Forgot the 'i' in Physician XD

  • Hey Bill, I'm not a diabetic but thank you so much for posting this video. I was faced today with having to give myself a shot for the first time ever. It was an injection of Neupogen to get my white blood cell count up (boost my immune system.) I figured insulin shots were similar. This went so much more smoothly than I imagined it would.

  • I always hit my muscles :(

  • You're awesome.

  • Well that's certainly showing someone were to stick it. Oh get it? LOL Sorry I had to.

  • How do you know if you have this? Mood swings etc, highs and lows are usually diagnosed as stress or depression. Are you constantly thirsty, or are they bouts of thirst? Somebody please help.

  • @35mnbv google it

  • I am a newly diagnosed 21 year old diabetic.. I am so fearful of needle pain. I don't know what to do.. I am on tablets currently, but for no reason, my sugar level still high despite taking tablets. Doc said I might need to go on shots soon. So i am so worried now.. Please advise!

  • @silkyloveful I used to be fearful of the needle as well but the insulin is the better way to go

  • @silkyloveful If you are a T1 diabetic the pills won't really get your levels down to where they need to be. T1's MUST have insulin to LIVE. Trust me, needles are SMALL and the flexpens are convenient--and their needles are EVEN smaller (than what he has in this video) after you do it a time or two on your own, it'll be old hat for you! I was the SAME way!

  • I'm not so sure on people with diabetes... What is it? I've never really got a chance to learn it in school yet...

  • Thanks for uploading. This was very helpful

  • @Laveters Oh I see.. Is it bad if I hit a vein? I haven't talk to the doctor yet so I have no idea. Thanks for answering my question.

  • Hi! My grandma had diabetes and I'm the one injecting her the insulin but recently, the injection site was all bruised. I don't know what I did wrong. I follow all what the doctor told me, cleanse the skin with alcohol, pinch the skin andinject it in subcutaneous tissue. Anyone knows? Thanks in advance.

  • @MsCha1001 Umm, iv'e done that before.. you could of hit a vain

  • do NOT even go into the muscle. Go in an angle, pinch into the fat, inject fast and it's painless.

  • And if you inject yourself in the muscles the insulin won't work.

  • I always sit when I do mine.. Hmm.

    I use pens though

  • One tip I might add - always leave the needle in place for about 10 seconds - that always ensures that nothing spurts back out when you remove the syringe! I've been a dart board - aka T1 for past 43 years!

  • I am worried I have diabetes... Now I'm terrified... o_o

  • @BlaiddDrwg2009 if you ever need any help come talk to me? I'm a diabetic, fairly new but willing to help.

  • @Laveters Thank you so much! I'm still waiting for my blood test results, but I'll be sure to talk to you if I need to. :)

  • @BlaiddDrwg2009 You are most welcome. i hope you get good results, but as I said if you need any help i'm here. just inbox me :) and i will give you my email address

  • what if you have a herna

  • @killobama2112 Then do it in your leg or on the other side :)

  • @Laveters ok

  • Hi, thanks for posting this, but Im noticing, you are injecting almost above the navel? I have been a t2 diabetic of about 5 yrs, and was told to inject below the navel. Im runnng out of sites! right now I have what looks to be an infected injection site and have no idea what to do about it!! any advice? Im scared..bigtime...any suggestions? I mean have you ever had that ;problem? thanks in advance...and continued luck to you friend. =)

  • I don't know why, but for me it always hurts when I choose to inject in the left side of my belly.

  • I <3 1HappyDiabetic

  • lol my dad like the cold insulin shot right out the fridge, i was wondering why i cause him to bleed ):?? not alot jst alittle

  • find a video called reversing diabeties in 30days...

You dont need insulin even type 1 diabetics are able to get off insulin..

    Look into it..

  • @n00bzor86 Very untrue...type 1s will need insulin for life.

  • @whimseys2000

Nope sorry, I have seen it first hand.. I guess it was s spontanious regression.

  • @n00bzor86 you are an idiot for life... look into it

  • @n00bzor86 Please use your brain :) THankz

  • very helpful thnx alot ... but can u tell me which type of insuline is this ?

i mean is it insulin glargine or biphasic insulin ( R + NPH ) ??

  • TY, I was just diagnosed and I am 55 and scared. You answered one of my questions that was really scaring me and I feel better about the pain part, none at all if I relax and I have pleanty of belly fat. My next concern is how long does it take to get the concoction for your body down. Can I screw up easily if my sugar is up and need more insulin or if it is too low?

  • @magiccatdancing thanks so much for your comment. I wish I could answer your question but everyone is different with thier insulin needs. Also I can't answer specific health questions. I hope you understand. I am so happy you watched the video and it gave you some confidence.

  • Bill this video has help my daughter Rahab do her shots. Thanks.

  • thanks for posting this. helped me out.

  • @UnprotectedTechs you are so welcome!

  • i just take it into the leg. i couldn't imagine taking it anywhere else it would be too painfull

  • @thirdlife911 The leg is good, but if you squeeze up bits of skin on your stomach, it doesn't hurt

  • The only thing that hurts when taking insulin shots is cold insulin, right out of the fridge. It stings sometimes. Other then that, I am so used to it with taking the Lantus at night and the Humalog before meals.

  • @MorganKrista1 the PH levels in insulins can cause the sting feeling as well. I hate that cold feeling of insulin going in.

  • @1HappyDiabetic

how did u get diabetic ???

  • @thesuperapple360 There's no KNOWN cause to T1 Diabetes...

  • @1HappyDiabetic

    plz reply anyone

  • @1HappyDiabetic

i will be on daily thanks 1happydiabetic -how did u become diabetic

  • @thesuperapple360 Luck of the genetic draw, nothing more nothing less. The real reason for my diagnosis has never been discovered

  • @MorganKrista1 the insulin i inject i leave in my room am i surpossed to put in fridge???

  • @pigrantom Yes, it can go off

  • @MorganKrista1 my novo pen is not supposed to be in fridge so why are you saying that you take it out of the fridge?

  • I did it !!!!!! Thanks a bunch !!! It's my first time.. taking insulin by myself and it didn't hurt at all !! Thanks for posting this VDO, I am sure it will help many other 1st time insulin taker and become one happy diabetic !!! May God bless you !!!

  • When I say weather, I mean temps more specifically. I find I need less insulin in the summer, then I do in the winter.

  • @DelphinusMinor some diabetics change their insulin needs seasonally.

  • How bad do they hurt? I think I may have type 2 diabetes :(

  • If you do your shots like I do. They don't hurt at all! Quick and calm is the key!

Insulin shots for type 2 Diabetics is not a means of failure but usually a better means of controling your blood sugars. Best of luck!

  • Thx!

  • @1HappyDiabetic Actually now and then you do hit a nerve, and yes it will hurt a bit. Or sometimes you get a gusher. Messy. Haha... I find I get better results when I inject intramuscular.

  • This is really helpful. I don't think I have diabetes but I have a lot a the symptioms of it. =( So if I find out I do have diabetes this will really help me. =) Do you have to give yourself a insulin shot everyday?

  • Not anymore. I use an insulin pump that gives me insulin 24/7. I get better contol with using one

  • @1191957 It is usually MDI. Multiple daily injections. I have Type 1 as well. I inject 6-10 needles a day, every day. That is because I eat alot, and several more times a day then most people, so I am constantly covering my carbs with insulin. Dosing also changes everyday depending on weather, general health, how much you eat, how active you are, etc.

  • oh my!

  • I give people insulin shots at my work.

By the way, boy...you talk way too much.

  • I might talk a bit too much, but sometimes if You are the one getting the injection it's different.

I'd rather be GIVING the shots too! Some don't have that choice.

  • @1HappyDiabetic

    Yes, I understand.

And I wasn't trying to offend you or anything, man. Happy New year to you!:-)

  • I just got a pump and it rocks.. Five shots per day becomes changing the infusion set every 3 days. It's painless to insert a new one

  • the problem with me is It disgust me to put needle in my body !

I dont care if it hyrts

  • Maybe those insulin pens would be better. Smaller needle and hurt less. Doesn't look like a traditional shot either

  • dude......you are one happy diabetic :)

  • does insulin cause body fat cause i heard that somewhere and i just don't wanna get fat from my shots haha

  • Just don't keep injecting in the same spot. You'll be fine. And of course watch what you eat and exercise.

  • Thanks for the reply :-)

  • Like he said, injecting in the same spot will cause scar tissue. So you have to change injection sites with each shot you do to avoid that.

  • I'm pretty skinny and it's hard to pinch up the skin on my stomach. Any suggestions? I also do a lot of mt. biking/cross country/ and horse riding (in the arm really isn't an option) Thanks a lot to anyone who can help.

  • It's hard to any shots when you have low body fat. You can always try different length needles or needle tips so that the insulin is delivered to the proper depth. My upper leg was my next favorite spot.

  • nice stomach

  • Can you do it in the two parts of your tum ?

  • if you mean the other side, yup you sure can

  • You can stick it in your bum bum

  • i only use my stomach, ive tried my arms but i am pretty athletic and it damn well hurts.love your vids man,i can relate.just been classed as a severly brittle diabetic,up from brittle, lol.chewed my toungue a couple of times

  • ah, my toungue has a few scars on it to say the least. I feel ya.

I'm not a big fan of doing shots in my arm either. It hurts more for me.

  • oh man bill i was dx in december of 89 haha.

  • Oh, just one year behind me... it's funny what people comment. Like was this person serious about it not hurting and me "lying" about how long I have had diabetes... lol... it's just funny to me

  • i agree. some of this stuff i have to laugh over because it is so unreal.

  • obviusly it is not gonna hurt u have been giving urself these shots/insulins for 19-21 yrs. 21 yrs cuz its 09

  • Tinky,

They do hurt. Blood = Pain.

It's not like I am completely numb to life and pain anymore that is why this videos help.

I got diagnosed in Dec of 1988 so it's closer to 20 years not 21. But who's counting?

  • Hey man, thank god for having just diabetic, because it would be worse if you had epilepsy too like me.

For the diabetic, you have the ability to control your blood sugar level, but for the epilepsy you don't have this luxury.

Being in risk while driving, swimming, losing your job, bla bla bla are very bad experiences.

God be with you and thanks for the video I got benefited from it.

  • Zalabeya,

ahhhh I hear you. I have had seizures in the past were they thought I had epilepsy and I have a cousin that has it.... sorry to hear you do it must make it even harder.

    Keep your hopes up!

  • Your pen of insulin it's veeery strange... Mines are more funny ! :D

  • man when i was on injections i never did it that fast i think i was scared i would accidently bend the needle or something. and that was for 18 years i did it that way. i so wish i knew about that BD injector thing a long time ago. but now im glad i switched to the pump and infusion sets. :D

  • The injector was a life savor! Unreal for me

  • Ugh, I'm really needle-phobic.

I can't believe you just stabbed yourself for the sake of this video. Good man. (:

And wow, you were pretty damn buff when you were 18.

  • Great taste in music man......

  • Well thank you.

  • How did you get diabetes?

  • That's a question I have been asking my self for years. Type 1 Diabetes doesn't run in my family and I wasn't that mean to my sisters growing up sooooo.... There are many theories out there, but it's kind of like how some little kids get cancer and you don't know why. I'm in that boat. Type 2 Diabetes is and can be different.

Thanks for the comment, wish I knew.

  • Me and my brother used to fight all the time, and we are 2 years apart, and I don't get along with my mom either, and diabetes never ran in my family, at least I don't think it was because I never asked my parents, so I wouldn't know. :P

  • Luckly very few. The only complications I have noticed are some visional problems. Not sure if they are because of my diabetes but possibily. So I get check ups and wear glasses when needed. That's the only thing so far with 20 years being diabetic

  • I just came out from the doctors after being diabetic, and this really helped :D

  • So glad this video has helped in some way. This is the way or approach I have been taking for years on doing a shot in my stomach.

    Best of luck

  • You, sir, are wonderful. Since I was diagnosed, I've always done my injections either in my thighs or bum, only resorting to my stomach when I didn't have another choice (eg when I'm at a restaurant or in another case where getting my arse out isn't acceptable) because it's always hurt. I've had Diabetes for 11 years now and no-one has ever shown me how to do it just as you did: especially with the exact area and stuff, so I'm going to try tonight to save my bottom some pain. Thank you :)

  • Let us know how you do! Thank you so much for your response. I bet you'll soon find the tummy is the best. For me it hurts less and has better absorbtion of insulin then some other areas.

I am glad I could show you some tips and the right spot to do the injections!

  • I AM A HAPPY DIABETIC TOO (and im only 12) luv da vids

  • Thanks a ton!

  • i'm not a diabetic, but I really enjoy your vids cause a friend of mine is

i like learning more about the subject

    thx for posting this stuff!

  • Thanks man, I am glad you found me. I try to help out the best I can. It's so important to know about your buddies disease... thanks again

  • you didnt clean the area befor :S

  • I have been a diabetec for like 5 months and I really enjoy your vids man...Thank you so much... I am perfectly healthy and workout alot...Don't mean its gonna cure it but I am a pretty big guy not fat just muscle...I do use a flex pen and the needles are like soooo small I still have a problem giging myself injections..i mean its don't hurt if you do it right but its just the facrt of a spike........Keep more stuff on here. Thank you again

  • thanks so much for your comments... anything you think I can help you with let me know

  • i do shots on my hip and stomach they dont hurt unless i am thinking about it hurting really... so i think about it being painless and then it will be oh and ive been a diabetic 5 months

  • Awesome!

  • when i was 9 the ice cube really used to help me ,you just have use some ice thats straight from the frezzer and wet it ,cover the area and the surronding skin for best relief then give it more then 50 seconds so you cant feel a cold burning sensation anymore and then your good to go,i used to close my eyes when my mom did it and i wouldent even notice .

  • hey!

thats awesome, i've been doing shots in my stomach for year and they always hurt!

after watching this vid i tryd what you said and no more painfull shots.

    thanks :D

  • I am so glad you found these videos..... I am SO HAPPY to have helped.

    Thank you!

  • that is cool

  • thX!

  • Hey! i do not have diabetes but i have to watch my sugar level because i have diabetes in both sides of my family and i am half black and black people are more likely to get diabetes or heart problems but anyways whats one main good food to eat as a diabetic and i like to study diabetes too so your vids are helping me learn! thanks

  • You nkow there are many foods that are good. Cinnimon for example lowers blood sugar... there really is no one good food to eat really. Try reducing your carb in take per meal. Try to cut out high carb foods like Bagles (Some bagels have over 120 carbs!) french fries, chinese food... etc..

    hope it helps. Thanks again!

  • Hi PPL I am Diabetic Type1 since 3 years

    I am from Algeria

I always shot insulin in my stomach..... I always get good results.

    You are right buddy!

  • Thanks! Good luck keep watching!

  • Hi Bill. I start doing this today - age 59.

Thank you very much for this.

  • Glad to help. If there are any questions, comment keep them coming.

    Good Luck!

  • Great video......I tried the technique and works really well for me.....no pain, no fuss.....thanks a lot

  • Awesome!

  • i am only 14. i got diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes on November 12th 2007. i had problems with it as i was in my adolescence years and i ignored it, pricking my finger for blood sugars and injection was had, this video helped me alot as it usually took AGES to inect myself, but this techinique really helped and im getting used to this!

its not that bad after all!

    love the videos!

    keep it up!

  • I am so glad it has helped you. The breathing is Key, along with speed. Also mentally, I think to myself that the Shot won't Hurt.... instead of waiting for the pain or thinking that it will hurt.

Good Luck, thanks again for your comment.

  • Thank you so much!!!

I am so glad to have helped!!

  • Ive been type 1 diabetic for 25 years and I still CAN NOT inject myself fast like that. Seeing this has made me want to work at this technique again, sometimes I hit one of those painfull spots in my stomach then just move to another site. Thanx for the tip! You make it look easy!

  • Bruce. I am glad you caught my Video. SPEED is the KEY... I should Have mentioned that. When I was 8, I went to this camp and there was a 5 year old injecting himself like RAMBO!!! I said, exactally what you said... I got to do them quicker! Good Luck

  • hi..im a little nearvous as ive jus been tested 4 diabetes as i have all the symptons and i get my results back soon so i thought id watch a few videos as i too am afraid of needles and this video has really calmed me down...thanks and if i do get diagnosed with diabetes this video has sure helped ....

  • Thank You so much. I am glad it helped. The breathing tip is good practice. :-)

  • thanks

  • prob... sorry no new videos. Some soon.

  • UPDATE. Elinaa85 tried these techiques, the breathing and pinching.... Loved it!!! Congrats!

  • I am so going to use this trick! I was diagnosed as type 1 yesterday, and I am a chicken with the needles :O

  • Thank you so much for your response. I hope I can help in some way. That is exactally why I do these videos. Good luck!

  • Hey i'm 13 and diabetic (Type 1) and I inject myself in the stomach aswell and It's a bit uncomfortable but hopefully it'll help! thanks a lot!!

  • Thankyhoo :)

    ___<3___Tiff

  • i have one question. Do you not use a insulinpen? because the needles in them are much smaller and less hurts.(6mm-12mm long needles you can choice) and thera are usaly 300 units in one pen.

    see ya!

  • Hi, Great question. I don't use insulin pens anymore, I use an Insulin pump, THE ONE JOHN WALSH wears!!! So times I forget I have diabetes on my pump beacause I am not always in constant burden of "Where is my insulin at all times" or the "OH NO I FOG0T MY METER!" I get to relax because I have it right by my side delivering small amouts of insulin I know matches my behavior (even when it changes) But its never perfect. To know your insulin duration of action better is pricelss information!

  • I cannot decide what to do !! Could someone give me some advice plyz ?

okay.. ive been a diabetic 4 11 years now... my blood sugars arent always brilliant i must admit...

i was suggesting to change to the insulin pump but i have heard that its uncomfortable.... is it better than injections ? im confused what should i do? !!

hope some one can help :)

    Thanks

    xxx

  • My Honest advice..... Insulin Pump all the way. Reduse your lows. Be normal. I waer mine 24/4 I ride in a car about 4hrs a day while my pump (infusion set) is attached to my butt, and I don't feel a thing. ** To me it's like... If you want desert at dinner and you didn't plan on it... Would you rather Do a shot and have to leave the table, or go high... or just click a few buttons on your pump and SMILE!!!!!!! By the way thats just one reason

  • I will never get the courrage 2 take my shot in my stomach i always do it in my leg i av been diabetic for 1 year now.

  • Thats how I started out. I was "scared" if thats a good word, until I saw a 6 year old when I was 10 doing shots in his stomach all the time at a Diabetic Camp. So I got up the courage to do them in the stomach if this little kid could do it. Watch the video again, do it just like that, no pain. My stomach was my "favorite" spot to inject. Good Luck!

  • Really? Before I switched to the pump I used to prefer giving myself injections in the stomach; it just hurt so much less.

  • Shots in the stomach give good insulin absorption too!

  • i was gone on a camping trip for a week and no one cud give me my shot in my arm, so i tried my leg. it sucked. then i found out ur not supposed to go straight into the top of ur leg. the stomache is alot better cause all u gotta do is pull up ur shirt a little, no pants are going down, and u dont have to fidgit with ur arm. ive never tried the ice cube thing, but i dont take to many shots anymore (pump). thanks bill!(ps: i think you forgot to sterelize the injection site!)

  • You got me!!! :-( I haven't done an injection in a year or so! whoops!

  • lol its all good. i change my lancet in my poker thing like once a week...the tips of fingers look like someones been jabbing them with a needle a couple times a day for like a year....

ps: wat is the proper term for the thing that pokes ur finger?

  • It is called a lancing device.

  • Lancet, lancing device sounds about right

  • i have never called it a lancing device. i called it my poker for several years so stick with what's good haha.

  • Finger Pricker or Sticker for me

  • wow when ever i do my shots... not very often only if im high cuz i have a pump... i do it so slow so next time ill try to do it fast! thanx

  • FAST FAST FAST ! ! ! Is the best way. Thanks for your comment

  • Great vid! Thanks for sharing :) The tip to relax is probably the best - I sure had noticed they hurt more if I'm tense (ESPECIALLY in the leg, ow!)

  • The leg is a hard place to get a good stick!

  • My number 1 tip is: don't inject a bruise. Don't inject the area that was a bruise yesterday, either.

  • Thanks for this - I think my 10 yr. old daughter will try it more in her stomach after hearing you (although I've told her these things, I'm her mom - of COURSE she doesn't listen to me! LOL) Thanks for sharing.
