  • I personally find Mikael to be better than Ken (don't get me wrong, Ken is still the best in the world), because that's how amazing he is with Peach. As much as I hate tiers, Link has been proven to have a strong advantage over Peach, plus Aniki's L-dashing and great skill with Link brought him the win.

  • Aniki knows what the fuck he is doing

  • I guess I underestimated Link. He owned.

  • For a low-tier char, Link's matchup against Peach isn't that bad in Melee.

  • 3:35 the very moment Peach's dress is pointed bottom-down at the audience, Link decides to show off his handsomeness...

  • what did aniki do at 0:12

  • Ledge hop to up air.

  • @1Celebrindor ...threw a boomerang...?

  • so ya aniki FKN PWNS but honestly it Looked like he struggled with this even a little more than with ken...

  • @anaranjaranjada of course it is going to seem that way since he is using a lower tier character

  • 2:43 - I miss Link's continuous sword swiping and the sharp-edged sound of it. In Brawl, the attack can't be continued and the sword sounds smooth. :/

  • Why does Aniki never Z drop bombs?? I find that super effective at stopping combos and from being follow off the edge to be gaurded.

  • FINALLY, a competitive match of melee that does NOT consist of two characters who can dish it out but just can't take it. xD

Seriously, the tier list seems to be a ranking system of who can dish out the most damage the fastest, with little regards to survivability. I personally believe that, aside from yoshi, kirby, and pichu's placings, the tier list is worthless, because almost every character has his, her, or its own effective playstyle.

  • There's differences in characters (combo ability, kill power, edge guarding, recovery, projectile game, spacing, etc) so there are inherent differences in effectiveness. Maybe what you should be saying is in Melee, combo ability has the strongest weight in creating a tier list.

(Also, Peach is ranked 5th on the tier list. She doesn't really combo characters too well (Except the fast fallers). She has a really good edge guard and recovery to make up for her lack of combo ability.)

  • Meh, i suppose you're right about combo ability being the most important feature of a character in smash. However, I still personally believe that SWF underestimates the ability to recover when other characters can't.

Oh, and throw Roy in the same boat as yoshi, kirby and pichu. He's just so poorly made.

  • @dingding12321

Recovery is very well considered when they made the list. That's another reason why Peach is ranked 5th best and Jigglypuff is ranked tied for 6th (two best recoveries in the game).

But don't worry about SWF. The guys that made the tier list are a group of really smart players at this game. They know what they're talking about and understand how and why characters should be placed where they are.

  • 'Recovery' is too broad for what my argument is based on. I'm talking about the ability to survive any situation - the absolute highest damage that a character can survive any instance. Peach and puff can come back to the stage and can gimp at ridiculous distances from the stage, but they aren't weighty. A fox could usmash or fsmash a puff at the same ridiculously low percent on the same stage for all four kills, making puff's ability to get back all for naught. (not finished)

  • Would survivability be more along the lines of what your thinking of?

Even if a character could survive at really high percents, can they make it back to the stage and keep fighting?

  • ...yup, that's it xD

It all depends on the situation whether a character can get back to the stage safely. There's a point for each character where even if they made it back it would take little effort to finish them off. However, survivability is how long the character has before that, spiking/meteor smashing, or upward hits are enough to kill them - it isn't limited to that.

Perhaps I'm just some stubborn, biased Link main - maybe I'm wrong. But I'd like to think I'm onto something.

  • You might be onto something. It doesn't matter how long you live if you can't do anything while you're still alive.

  • ...and DK gets some great horizontal distance with his upb, but if someone spikes him (or even meteor smashes in some cases), say goodbye to that stock. If you have a character with nothing exploitable in this area, you can rely on long stocks unless you yourself make a mistake. Characters that fit this description best include link, samus, ganon and bowser. This, IMO, is the biggest thing that SWF underestimated with the low tier chars. Next in line would be jump + upb distance and speed.

  • I'd argue that Samus has the best recovery in the game. Bomb jumps plus that grapple? Plus she's a heavyweight. Sure she's floaty and she dies easy off the top, but DI down and she pretty much never dies. even if you hit her away again, she doesn't need her jump to recover, while jiggs can run out of jumps and peach gets owned when she's stupid with her parasol.

  • @thepwnnerofnoobs

Bomb jumps are slow and breaking one bomb during her bomb jump will ruin the timing of her recovery so she would have to start over and end up lower. The grapple can only be used once before she touches the ground again. Samus still needs her second jump to make a lot of recoveries. Her bomb jumps don't send her as far as you think she does.

  • @thepwnnerofnoobs

Jigglypuff is the floatiest character in the game. Those jumps of hers will always be well spent. On top of that, she can use rising forward-B's to preserve her height during recovery. Since she doesn't rely on her up-B to recover, she's free to attack with any of her high priority moves.

  • @thepwnnerofnoobs

Peach may get owned when she's stupid with her umbrella but it's difficult to be stupid with it. If you fast fall while Peach is holding her umbrella, she has almost 0 frames of landing lag. She can attack immediatly when she lands. You do also realize how floaty she is and how good her float is for recovery. And you do know how high her priority on her umbrella is at the top, do you?

  • i'm just saying i see peach get gimped a lot more than i see samus get gimped. But jiggs does have a ridiculously versatile recovery.

  • What does "tier" and "wavedashing" mean?

  • 3:57 to 4:03 AMAZING!

  • 2:55 and 3:01 LOL, one of the best links ive ever seen, specially when owning peach and her damn turnips

  • At 4:00, that was insane.

  • LMFAO!! FAIL 1:02

  • aniki is dope

  • Aw, too bad Mikael lost. Aniki was great though. Mikael forces his opponent to play at his own pace, but Aniki is better at that than Mikael so he ended up losing(they both defeated Ken this way) These are two of my favorite pros.

  • Aniki is the best non-wavedashing low-tier player I've ever seen.

  • its funny cause i have pretty much the same style as him although he would be able to mop the floor with me obviously but i would love to face him a couple times i would probably learn a lot. also i Main Link so go Aniki show us those skills with a low "tier" character.

  • 3:58 awesomenesss

  • germ and aniki are some kickass players, sure this peach is good, but its so cookie cutter and typical. Their links are completely different, yet amazingly sexy how they play

  • I main Link and am trying to improve and maybe someone better can explain something for me:

At 1:50, he air dodges, gets hit off without landing, then air dodges again to grapple. I've seen this in a few Aniki/Germ Link vids.

If I air dodge, then get hit, I seem to be unable to dodge/grapple in the air again after that. What am I missing or possibly doing wrong?

  • its called being stun. my solution to that is jerk the control stick left and right rly rly fast as if you're dash dancing. it should cancel it out and you can dodge again. i believe it also works if you spin the control stick round and round rly fast. but im not to sure about that one. best go with the first method. you can also try using your arrows or boomerang. although be advised they have a massive amount of lag before you can dodge. my main use to be link until i heard gimpyfish's video.

  • Yeah tumble cancel by jerking left and right, dont go in a circle because you might get used to it and waste your jump later on. Or just Nair if you think you have enough time

  • Ok, thanks a lot.

  • I love aniki.

  • this match shows exactly y ppl say tiers are for queers.

  • i hate peach players who just throw you off the edge for the damn down smash you cant virtually recover with some chars.

  • I give massive respect to ANYONE who can play a link that good cause I can't.

The person who plays peach plays like me.

  • 4:00-4:02, Aniki for god tier

  • So you would beat Aniki?

  • LOL I have seen like 15 matches with Aniki in them and still waiting to find one where he/she loses!!

  • He lost a few vs Ken

  • It's funny because Link is like one of the worst Peach match-ups but Aniki shoved that fact down the toilet in this match!! Rock on Aniki!!!

  • nice match, my brother and i also fight with peach and link, but he does an attack i think donw A, but most of the times it cause like more than 50% and after he takes me off the platform, he starts tossing the turnips and in many cases is impossible to recover cause he always hits you, what would be link's advantage against her?

  • Be quick with the tether recovery. Aniki got the maximum potential out of it twice in that one stock, and it has considerable more range than his up B, unlike Brawl where its the other way around.

  • Hehe one month late for me but I still got a good way to counter Peach herself but not really that one peach tactic.

You gotta space yourself REALLY well against Peach as Link. Her melee game is better than yours, so utilize your missiles effectively. Since she's slow, you should be able to essentially kite her until she's within one-shot range.

That's how I fight her anyway. Fighting against turnips is totally up to you.

  • nice combo at 4:00

  • I think Mikael got nervous in the end causing him to make a fatel mistake. He is usually smarter than that. But yeah, Aniki's traps are TOO good.

  • d 5 cosas q lanza pega 3

    ^^¡

    aniki el mejor

  • i have to say i was rather disappointed with aniki's performance. judging by all the hype about him, i expected more.

  • go search up his matches against Ken, that's where the hype came from

  • He won against Japan's best peach and (arguably) possibly the best peach in the world with a character most TIEEEEEEERRRRRRRR LLLLLLLLIIIIIIISSSSSSSSTTTTTTTTTSSSSSSSSS say is quite low :\, i mean, did you see some of the combos he pulled out with thos projectiles? It's absolutely astounding.

  • Ya gotta admit mikael plays a sexy peach

  • Link should grab more

  • You dont even know what your talking about

  • Games best edgeguard ? no it's NOT , or youre playing against noobs. This move has too much ending lag to be overused , it's just used for mindgames.

13 dmg per hit , kewl a full charged neutral B by roy does better damage ROFLMAO BBQ WTF ITS DA BEST MOVE IN DA GAME!

you suck , and aniki is the best link in the world , live with it

  • Eww! Coochie Cabbages

  • ANIKI is a stud.

  • It looked like Mikael was unaware of Link's recovery tactics... lots of missed edge opportunities.

  • box tag?

  • aniki's traps are amazing

  • Such as...?

  • sas

  • Great movie, wish I could battle him. ^^

Wait, JP player? He'd kick my ass. ;o

  • Aniki is a frieking animal with Link. He's my favorite pro to watch.

  • that's the best peach player i've ever seen

  • Aniki is waaaaaaaaaaaaaayy more interesting to watch than Ken.

  • yes!,thats why hes my fav smasher

  • damn the person using Link is pretty good, sure he throws items alot, but shit, he plays real good for a character that is really underrated, i mean someone usin Marth had to be so cheap against the person usin Marth, think it was Ken or somtin usin Marth, had to play alil un-fair against Link jus cuz Link was givin a really good fight, but ya, its great seein characters like Link an Pikachu, hell even the Ice Climbers fightin against lame characters like Marth

  • Bombs recovery is really a soft option. It's better to just try and get as much range out of the hookshot as possible. In one of his hookshot recoveries, Aniki literally got the maximum amount of range possible. He shielded forward, then at the last second fired the hookshot. If you are out of its range, there's only about a 50% chance bombs will get you back, from what I've seen. Part of the problem is that his sword might hit the bomb instead of his body, in which case he's screwed.

  • Beautiful hit into the bomb at 4:00. I love watching Aniki play - he plays Link like me, only a lot better. :D

  • i need some more handling with Link. my main is Marth.

  • its hard to fight peach in the air,she has so many good aerial attacks.

  • aniki doesnt seem to do the bomb recovery with link so much as other link players do..

maybe he doesnt find a use for it?

  • Does Aniki L-cancel??!!

  • people seem to forget that boomerangs come back...

But aniki is one of the greatest players

  • 4:00 Amazing

  • how does he do that?

  • haha, lol @ aniki catching mikael's radish at 2:10

  • Wow, nice win. I could never hit those combos with Link.

  • I beat everyone in my area but that doesn't mean I could beat pros.

  • at 0:30, link apparently just pops onto the edge very quickly. What happened? Was that just a jump. I couldn't really see.

  • Oh, Link's using the famous hookshot. Note the purple apparatus he's holding with the gray blur of a grappler shooting out of it. That's called a tether recovery-- very difficult to pull off, and aiming takes a lot of practice. However, in the upcoming Brawl, tether recoveries have been simplified so that moves such as the Plasma Whip and Clawshot will automatically grab the nearest ledge.

  • kool thanks for the info.

  • A good starting practice is to try grabbing the basin of the platform, and then doing up-B.

Once you get your accuracy down, you can try aiming for the edge of the platform, and you don't have to use up-B to get back. Probably the most useful thing Link has, considering that his up-B doesn't have a whole lot of range, and bomb recovery takes a bit of practice to actually be effective in a heated battle. The opponent can't just grab the edge of the platform and stop you from recovering.

  • when the hookshot hits the highest point of a ledge it shoots you back up like that.

  • no it doesn't. you can press the Z button really fast to do that, if you don't then you'll just hang from it.

  • He sweetSpotted the edge with links Chain

  • woah you can use wikipedia!damn why tell everybody that he sweetspotted any self-respecting ssb player knows this dont waste comment space again please.

  • Robotman42 you are very mistaken. You can't call Link's recovery overpowered, especially when he's fighting a peach, who has one of the best in the game. As well, you can't call Link's recovery overpowered unless you call

Samus' as well. Besides, Aniki is the best link player in the world, pulling that recover off perfectly takes alot of practice.

  • Samus does have a neat recovery. But I think that Fox and Falco have a cool recovery too. Jigglypuff's is the most overpowered, though.

  • Aniki's specialty is abusing that chain...airdodge towards the stage then press A before you fall loose again, and that chain will save you even if you're beyond the save range of a triple jump. Simply overpowered.

  • Jiggly puff is overpowered at recovering dude. wtf you smoking, seriously?

  • I didn't say jigglypuff wasn't, or Samus either, for that matter. Jigglypuff, Samus, Link, and I guess Peach...good at recovering. Samus has that bomb jump and then a chain, Peach being floaty, jigglypuff's jumping and aerial speed.

I still think Link's recovery is overpowered, just not when compared against Peach.

  • Yeah, well, the Hookshot is only so long. If Link had just been knocked back a little further... He'd go nova just like that. But think how much cheaper it will be in Brawl, when you won't even have to aim it!

  • ...that sounds bad. (about Brawl)

  • Everyone's recovery is actually getting a little easier. Not only do Link's and Samus' grapples auto-aim for the ledge, up-B moves instantly cancel and grab the edge when near it (from what I hear, I never personally played the demos).

  • In other words, you can't hog when they up-B you, even if you timed it right?

  • Edgehogging still works; all I was saying is that it's just a little harder to get edgeguarded. Players can no longer punish your moves because you didn't have the perfect spacing in your recovery.

  • Oh I see what you mean. Good news for the beginners. :P

  • Yeah they fixed up a lot of the more advanced tactics to be easier for beginners. For instance, L-canceling is now automatic; if you do a move while fast falling it cancels when you land. So now you gotta FF then do an aerial (instead of the other way around). They wanted to remove as much of the cancel/glitch factor as they could, but any fighting game player knows this never works (unless it's a constantly patched game like GGXX or Tekken).

  • It not because of "glitch", or that moves like wave dash are glitchs. It's to support wifi, they have to reduce amount of registry or else it will lag, that's all. That's the reason why fast jabbing is just holding a now instead of tabbing, less registry / less lag.

  • I assumed it was to make land canceling a little more simple, but I guess this makes sense too. Then again people play complex fighting games with 100ish inputs per minute online (MAME, XBL, etc), and I don't really hear about them having any major problems with this. Online gaming doesn't really take massive amounts of bandwidth.

  • lmao that was too awsome 4.00

  • projectiles fight!

  • haha thats what i said too!

  • Huh, I never knew you could jump out of a wall hang like that, very useful.

  • 4 minutes into the video shows a nice bomb combo hahah love how Peach gets hit there

  • The boomerang had some pretty good purposes from the start =/ The bombs looks pretty deadly thought, and that clawshot... I wonder if its any longer or faster than the hookshot

  • Well, Clawshot doesn't require aim, it just grabs the nearest ledge.

  • Those were some crazy bomb combos.

BTW, new update for Link is out for SSBB. Looks like that Boomerang will serve a better purpose now.

  • That boomerang is pretty powerful as it is right now, wouldn't you say? I hope Nintendo isn't going to rig it.

  • The boomerang now pulls you back. Maybe if combos would be better like that, I guess to serve a better purpose in Smash Attacks or his Final Smash? Aiming the boom in a direction with a bomb could also make a nice combo. I think the Gale is an upgrade +

  • bombs against turnips who will win?

  • Anthoflex, there's pleny of aniki's vids out there. Just after watching them all u probably get the reason why aniki is the best link around there.

    No more words :X

  • 3:35 - l-canceled dair into taunt combo~!

  • Not trying to start anything here, but i saw this video because i hear about this awesome "Aniki" dude. Im not impressed, sorry.

If anyone has another video of Aniki thats actually worth watching, can somebody please send it my way, thanx

  • Hes not fancy like the germ. but he is still good. if you can get past the simplicity of his playing style you can see how good he really is. Try his matches against kens marth.

  • too many turnips... if used too often they figure it out and compensate

  • alisghaje;oiughaog oh my god i remembered why love watching aniki videos...fuck..the combo that ended at 4:02 was beautiful. i lost all my marbles.

  • too much techy dodgy and not enough mindgamey ledgeguardy, but then again maybe japanese players just look way different than we do

  • aniki's boomerang bomb combo is great

  • peach rules

  • I love the things aniki does with his boms ^_^

  • Ownage.

  • hmm im pretty sure i played mikael at a tourney a while ago...i got raped mostly because peach distaracted me with how hot she is but i came close...

  • Er... I don't think Mikael ever went to a tournament outside of Japan...

  • lol

  • he only goes to the jap tournies, unless uve been to japan u probably havent played him.

  • 4:00 to 4:02 was beautiful

  • totally

  • Aniki U rock with Link!

  • for me the best is cj and pc chris and koreandj and mew2king and ken and aniki only those

  • excellent match between two excellent smashers.

  • i wanna go to some melle tournaments where they at

  • there's gonna be one at Anaheim like in a month but its a MLG tournament!!!

  • is it a MLG tourny or one of those Garden things they host

  • whats an MLG? Major League Games? does this take place in a college? cause the tournament is today.

  • Good fight.

  • that 4:00-4:02 combo was insane :)

  • go aniki, sickest link ever

  • from 4:00 to 4:02... nice combo :P

  • everyone's talking about aniki.. what about mikael? Peach rules haha >_>;

  • hes better than germ.

  • i asked other question about who is this aniki guy in another video of his matches, but is he like a really young prodigy or something?

  • Aniki is really amazing. He reacts to situations incredibly fast and his mind games are crazy. Watching videos like this make me think that tiers are worthless. Just play who you like because there's always a way to make that character good.

  • link handles himself well. I just went to katsucon (anime convention in DC) and they had melee there. anyone who played melee was on the gamecube but they all claim to be in tournaments and shit.never been in a tournment before but i kicked their asses. yeah they were good but still....i mean i use link too, its a great character. I normally play speed melee cuz melee for me is way to slow. i realized wavedashing and doing all the tricks with link is soooo easy when its put on normal melee.

  • the only thing i ask myself is why doesnt he do the spinning sword attacks? when i use link and i find myself in trouble i do the spin attack... i dont consider myself any gewd but i can handle myself but yeh mabey he dont need it

  • i'd like to see aniki and the germ go at it sometime

  • i know i ant =) i dont mean to start a fight u guys i am just sayin, neways z dont pull out bombs it automatically drops them instead of pressin down 'A' saves me time and i am pretty sure it wud save all u time incase u need to drop them =)

  • 3:09-3:11 that was funny lol!

  • Aniki > Bombsoldier

    Don't give Aniki advice rofl

  • That is the best Link I have ever, ever seen played. Actually this is one of the most awesome matches I've seen!

  • sillyrabbit, sry man but i think the germ could take him

  • NOOOOPE

  • Holy shit. He knows his link so well, that he can kick his foes into airborn bombs, then chain a uair combo.

  • lol it wasnt only me and my friends i used to compeat in tourney and all, but i will full heartly admit this guy is way betta than me i havnt played for 1-2 years and recently when i tried i guess i am ok not as good as i used to b, and bout the bomb dropin the thing is that its suppose to b unexpected not a thing u expect

  • johann Im sure that you and your friends thought you were pretty good but, lay off giving advice to the best link in the world. KKTHXBAI.

  • ken can fight like that you idoit!and isai to

  • a bit of advice for aniki he doesnt need to down B his bombs all he needs to do is press 'Z' this commin from a previous link master :P me, i got out of the game and now i wanna play again thnx 2 u fokes :>

  • my name is johann too :)

but man im telling you Aniki knows his stuff and d throwing the bombs make them go faster than if you drop them

  • 1. You're not his teacher

    2. Honestly, I play link a lot and I'm no expert, but Z only shoots out your chain. It don't bring out no bomb. Besides, by pulling out his bomb in mid-air, he'll be fast-falling and probably l-cancelling, and by doing DOWN-B, it's an automatic fast-fall. :)

  • 3:59-4:01 was a great string.

  • I've never see anyone use bombs effectively before in match vs a skilled opponent. Excellent job.

  • i loved how he smacked michael in the face with his grapple <3

  • I agree that aniki would teach germ, aniki is a far distance fighter and germ a close fighter, and germ ys actually only effective if the other enemy goes close to him, he never follows his enemy(thing he should change)Anyway, I enjoy seeing people that use link, because, as a link user, I know he is not exacly a top noch player

  • wow the combo at 4:00 is amazing boomerang to nair into the shielded bomb to uair
