Hulk Hogan was the king of the baby faces in the 1980s- Sting was the king of the baby faces in 1990s- John Cena was the king of the baby faces in the 2000s. All three have great charisma and the ability to draw a crowd but in terms of in ring talent Sting left both Cena & Hogan in the dust.
JR said Sting didn't have an uninterrupted service during his run in WCW but it was interrupted by Hogan in 1994 he was the main man until Hogan came along and then he had to take backseat to him for a while
@theaterattendee Your right for the most part but it wasn't just Hogan. Not long after Hogan came to WCW Savage came. The Lex Luger returned after his stint in the WWE where they gave him a tremendous push (that never worked). Before Luger ever left the WCW they tried to make him their version of Hogan (which never worked out). Then came Nash & Hall. But your right, Sting had such a huge push but once Hogan came and all those other guys behind him, Sting got tossed in the back seat.
@andross637 But the thing is tho this situation im describing that sting was uneasy about is after the direct and extremely intense rivalry and the monday night wars and between 95-2000. And taker's situation was that he wasnt that big in WCW and one of the reasons he didnt ask for new contract was cuz he wasn't gettin pushed. WWE made the undertaker and turned him nto the top draw he is. The same with austin and hunter.
@TheWwefan375 Coming back?He never was in the WWE, He has said he will stay in TNA, as it reminds him of WCW also he is on good terms with TNA Management.
@RTBizL Yeah. It is. Especially when u consider that company u never worked for is WWE, which many in the biz say is the biggest wrestling promotion right now & has been for years. I mean its true when u consider the only other ones are TNA & ROH. No offense 2 those companies, but they're not on WWE's level yet.
Sting was cool as a blonde haired surfer, He became awesome as The Crow. It was really cool to see him come to TNA but his character became gay when he started mixing red paint with his black paint and then he went from wearing black trench coats to wearing blinged out kimonos. Now he is a poor version of Heath Ledgers Joker.
@andross637 Maybe. But the thing is sting was worried what would happen to his character because a lot of wcw and ecw guys had pretty bad reps as a result of their storylines and sting had no guarantee that wouldn't happen to him. A prime example is Diamond Dallas Page( D.D.P) in the undertaker, sara stalking angle
@CyberEndJinzo DDP was always an overrated talent in my opinion. He was almost a Cinderella story, the old man who was told he could never do it. Sting either had a misguided loyalty to, well, anywhere that isn't WWE, or a fear that he couldn't cut it at the big dance. Sure, you can point to DDP, but what of Austin, Flair, Undertaker, Foley, Triple H, Mysterio etc? All former WCW stars who were pushed to the moon by WWE. No way would they misuse a legitimate draw like Sting.
Jeff Hardy blatantly admitted that he wanted to be sting meaning the whole face paint gimmick that Jeff Hardy has been using for several years is a knockoff of the one and only icon, Sting.
Notice how sting got more views by a fucking landslide on this 90s DVD lol that fucking tells you who real wrestling fans feel was best of the 90s. Like Jimmy hart said he was there from beginning to the end. This man was so great that wwe fans such as myself & wwe superstars bow to this man on a wwe DVD people. What does this tell you? There is literally no debate who the face of the 90s was. No contest!
Name me one wrestler that can say they would be as big of a icon had they not worked for Vince? We have a winner! Like many have said sting was the 90s & is the greatest if all fucking time...The End
Sting was the greatest star of the 90's. yes there were others that were way up there. but not even HBK can top Sting in the 90's. people credit Hulk Hogan for making wrestling huge. Sting changed the way people looked at wrestling. Sting set the bar. he was the standard. the one everyone worked so hard to top. not taking credit from other greats. But Sting was #1 in the 90's. the rest followed.
@NYRyder1983 thats because sting is such a legend. he has a high enough status that alotta fans have a dream match thats between sting and the undertaker
@CyberEndJinzo: Yeah cuz both have a lot of fans, have similar characters, beaten pretty much everyone they were in the ring with - all the top guys of their company. Really, what haven't they done besides face each other? WM's the only place for it. I don't think an argument could be made about that.
@NYRyder1983: Well Vince as well as others in WWE are Sting fans. And Sting earned their respect. SO it's only right they acknowledge his contributions despite never signing with them.
@panther2552: It's becoming the norm IMO. I've seen WWE dvd's with guys like Kurt Angle, Flair, Hogan, and they're in WWE anymore. Sting too. I think Kurt Angle was on the Top 50 & 21 Century sets too. Hulk & Flair, I believe were on the Top 50 sets. But Sting is only in the Greatest 90's set. I know Hulk & Flair have been around a long time. But if they could get on multiple dvd's, so should Sting. It's not a rant. Just stating an opinion.
@thetakeris4ever i agree. there should be more on Sting. they own the NWA/WCW Library and Sting is one of the greatest all time. His career should be celebrated. not to mention it's a way for the WWE to make money off him without having him contracted.
@panther2552: I'm still optimistic about a Sting DVD wit ha career retrospective documentary once he's free to do it. Bret & Austin's DVD sets have proven that if the individuals themselves are hands on with it, the set will be successful so hopefully Sting will be hands on with his set. If his match with Taker does happen, I can see it happening before the DVD or after the DVD which makes more sense to me as it'd likely push sales. Not that it would need to. Just saying though.
that doesnt matter. Sting is a fictional character that WWE owns. WWE owns the character Sting since the day they bought WCW. anything he did after wcw WWE will not touch. they do not own that and plus its a different version of the character. any disagreement is just denial.
@k1n63d Actually Steve Borden owns the rights to the Sting character. WCW never owned the rights to the character as it was Steve Borden who came up with it on his own. the WWE only owns the rights to the name WCW and the WCW/NWA video library.
Sting is above HBK, Taker, and many other in my opinion. It's hard to judge generations, but for me, Sting was the Bret Hart of WCW. There was Hogan and Ultimate Warrior in WWE, then for me, there was Bret Hart and Sting. Sting was.is amazing and it will be great, the day he is treated as so. Even today at 52, he still entertains and is one of the best talents on TNA. IT'S SHOWTIME! but, tata, for now!
@jason60152 i was never a big fan of goldberg but ultimate warrior is on my top 10 along with jake the snake .... I watch mma from time to time but to me they are 2 different things . d you like mma ???
@aviles1323 No I don't like MMA.I like wrestling more because of the characters and the females. Why don't you like Goldberg? He was a monster. The Rock couldn't even handle Goldberg.
@jason60152 im not a huge mma fan but i do like it .... oh yes the females :) i dont dislike goldberg but i was never a fan ... oh that was a cool rivalry goldberg the rock did an awesome job putting him over and in that rivalry the rock as a heel was amazing true entertainment
@CAWGregoryBlack im a warrior fan, but you are unfortunatly right. But warrior- hogan match at wrestlemania 6 was one of the best matches ive ever seen :)
I dont care what anyone says. I never got what was so special about Sting. They say he had buckets of Charisma....I've seen more charisma in the Rock's eyebrow
@rrwryan Clearly you just started watching wrestling because 80s/early 90s sting had the best charisma and was a complete beast in the ring, even his mid/late 90s stuff was great.
@rrwryan r u kidding me? i love the rock & he is definitely a legend of the Attitude Era but Sting is a wrestling ICON the rock doesnt even come close. Sting earned his success by himself & without any help from the WWE he is the greatest superstar to have never gone through the wwe
@rrwryan Sting had a shit load of chrasima, are u kidding me?...lol..Go and watch some old footage interviews and matches(yes he could actually cut a promo). Sting=the man in the late 80's early 90's
@fireheartgames you know ever since i was a kid sting has always been my favorite it sucks the stinger is getting old i hope when he does retire vince will let him go into the hall of fame hes the only reason i watched wcw then when his match or promo was over i fliped it back on wwf raw lol
If you're wondering what Sting is doing on a WWE DVD, I'll tell you why. If they had made a Greatest Stars of the 90s DVD without Sting, it would have been a total farce. Unlike Austin and Rock (who were great), Sting was the top babyface of his promotion from the 1980s all the way through 1999 at least. He is without a doubt a bonafide legend, my childhood hero, and still my hero today. People talk about the crow gimmick, but, great as it was, he was athletically amazing when he was blond.
anone else find it ironic of the fact that wwe is showing footage of Sting a star who has never worked for them and that so much of his legacy is based on the fact he never worked for the wwe.
@lucas57048 so what?look at Hall of Famer like Bullet Bob Armstrong,Nick Bockwinkel, abdullah the butcher, gordon solie, verne gagne, etc never worked for WWE , but WWE owns the territory they were in..just like WWE owns WCW history, and look at Ric Flair who never worked for WWE in 80's he was still in their DVD
@Allapattahgoon so what? if WWE were ever going to have sting on a dvd then y don't they just make a 3 disc dvd of his career, after all they own all the wcw footage/ history as you say so there cant be a problem with them doing that now
@lucas57048 It's because they bought out WCW I think, but regardless I still think they have the right to pay tribute to any great wrestler who deserves it.
@retsae1 they may have the right to do it but wouldnt they need his permission first otherwise sting could sue them for using his image and likenesswithout permission. Also i think that they only did this in order to try and get sting to join the wwe
@lucas57048 Well, since they bought out WCW I'm pretty sure they have the copyright to do so, but even if not, it would be kinda petty to sue someone for giving you kudos.
@retsae1 im sure WWE don't have copyright to the sting character as steve borden still wrestles as sting for TNA. If WWE did own the copyright for Sting then he couldn't wrestle as sting, in fact WWE would be sueing TNA for that reason. also i do agree with you that it would be petty to sue someone who gae you kudos but i hope that sting got some royalties for being on the dvd as everyone else probably did.
@lucas57048 Last I watched Jeff Hardy was till Jeff Hardy, Ric Flair was still Ric Flair, Hulk Hogan was sti..well, you get the point. I guess it has more to do with new contracts than the company then?
@retsae1 it is more to do with character trademark and copyright Terry balboa always owned the right to hulkamania and hulk hogan so he couldn't be sued for that and i think Flair does the right to the caracter name image and likeness. otherwise TNA would have been sued in 2010 because of it . point is if they own the copyright they will use it and help themselves to money and help the business grow
@lucas57048 Sting's contract in WCW allowed him to own all rights to his character. the exeptions were video's and music. like many wrestlers in wcw (mainly main eventers) they had the contracts so when wcw died they had the chioce to move to wwe
@joshio24 thanks for clearing that up as i wanted to know on y wwe could show his footage. But if they can show video's of sting y cant they produce a DVD of his career then as im sure tons of people would buy it
@joshio24 tbh it is very unlikely as vince mcmachon has offered sting so much money to join every year his contract at tna ends and he keeps on signing back to tna for a good reason
@joshio24 u got a point , besides if wwe really wanted sting they should give in to his demands. Rumour has it he will only join if he is the 1 to end the undertakers streak and a hof induction remembered this is rumoured.
@Allapattahgoon I'm not really a fanboy. Sting just happens to be my favourite Wrestler. And the foundation of my point is with agreeing with lucas57048
@Allapattahgoon Ok if WWE own all WCW stuff then why don't just make the Sting dvd showing his career from the NWA days till his last match in WCW.? if they own the footage then there can't be a problem now
@Divasandsuperstar he could sue them but if they don't use the sting name then they r fine.after all how can sting sue wwe if they own all the wcw footage and not his name
once upon a time there was two worlds the wwf and the wwe the wwf where the big boys rules and the wwe where the children rule wwf and wwe went to war and wwf won with non injuries or deaths and the leader of the wwf undertaker sacrafied the leader of the wwe john cena on an symbol that was called the symbol of death ( undertakers symbol)
John Cena mention sting,s name.

@rrwryan Clearly you just started watching wrestling because 80s/early 90s sting had the best charisma and was a complete beast in the ring, even his mid/late 90s stuff was great.
MmmmmApplesauce 3 months ago
@rrwryan r u kidding me? i love the rock & he is definitely a legend of the Attitude Era but Sting is a wrestling ICON the rock doesnt even come close. Sting earned his success by himself & without any help from the WWE he is the greatest superstar to have never gone through the wwe
MUNDOM316 3 months ago
@rrwryan The Rock was all about catchphrases and still is.

The Headline has to called "WCWs greatest Stars of the 80s and 90s."
He was so important for the Wrestlingsport in this 2 decades.
pandoblier 4 months ago
If you're wondering what Sting is doing on a WWE DVD, I'll tell you why. If they had made a Greatest Stars of the 90s DVD without Sting, it would have been a total farce. Unlike Austin and Rock (who were great), Sting was the top babyface of his promotion from the 1980s all the way through 1999 at least. He is without a doubt a bonafide legend, my childhood hero, and still my hero today. People talk about the crow gimmick, but, great as it was, he was athletically amazing when he was blond.

anone else find it ironic of the fact that wwe is showing footage of Sting a star who has never worked for them and that so much of his legacy is based on the fact he never worked for the wwe.
lucas57048 5 months ago 5
@lucas57048 so what?look at Hall of Famer like Bullet Bob Armstrong,Nick Bockwinkel, abdullah the butcher, gordon solie, verne gagne, etc never worked for WWE , but WWE owns the territory they were in..just like WWE owns WCW history, and look at Ric Flair who never worked for WWE in 80's he was still in their DVD
Allapattahgoon 5 months ago 2
@Allapattahgoon so what? if WWE were ever going to have sting on a dvd then y don't they just make a 3 disc dvd of his career, after all they own all the wcw footage/ history as you say so there cant be a problem with them doing that now
lucas57048 4 months ago
@lucas57048 It's because they bought out WCW I think, but regardless I still think they have the right to pay tribute to any great wrestler who deserves it.
retsae1 4 months ago
@retsae1 they may have the right to do it but wouldnt they need his permission first otherwise sting could sue them for using his image and likenesswithout permission. Also i think that they only did this in order to try and get sting to join the wwe
lucas57048 4 months ago
@lucas57048 Well, since they bought out WCW I'm pretty sure they have the copyright to do so, but even if not, it would be kinda petty to sue someone for giving you kudos.
retsae1 4 months ago
@retsae1 im sure WWE don't have copyright to the sting character as steve borden still wrestles as sting for TNA. If WWE did own the copyright for Sting then he couldn't wrestle as sting, in fact WWE would be sueing TNA for that reason. also i do agree with you that it would be petty to sue someone who gae you kudos but i hope that sting got some royalties for being on the dvd as everyone else probably did.
lucas57048 4 months ago
@lucas57048 Hm, you have a point there. But what about the other wrestlers in TNA that were in WWE who are using the same persona?
retsae1 4 months ago
@retsae1 like who uses te same persona in both WWE and TNA ? as im Sure TNA should be getting a lot of lawsuits for it.
lucas57048 4 months ago
@lucas57048 Last I watched Jeff Hardy was till Jeff Hardy, Ric Flair was still Ric Flair, Hulk Hogan was sti..well, you get the point. I guess it has more to do with new contracts than the company then?
retsae1 4 months ago
@retsae1 it is more to do with character trademark and copyright Terry balboa always owned the right to hulkamania and hulk hogan so he couldn't be sued for that and i think Flair does the right to the caracter name image and likeness. otherwise TNA would have been sued in 2010 because of it . point is if they own the copyright they will use it and help themselves to money and help the business grow
lucas57048 4 months ago
@lucas57048 Sting's contract in WCW allowed him to own all rights to his character. the exeptions were video's and music. like many wrestlers in wcw (mainly main eventers) they had the contracts so when wcw died they had the chioce to move to wwe
joshio24 4 months ago
@joshio24 thanks for clearing that up as i wanted to know on y wwe could show his footage. But if they can show video's of sting y cant they produce a DVD of his career then as im sure tons of people would buy it
lucas57048 4 months ago
@lucas57048 they will. when he retire's for real from tna.
joshio24 4 months ago
@joshio24 tbh it is very unlikely as vince mcmachon has offered sting so much money to join every year his contract at tna ends and he keeps on signing back to tna for a good reason
lucas57048 4 months ago
@lucas57048 I think thats why they showed him and the fans who would remember him would riot.
joshio24 4 months ago
@joshio24 u got a point , besides if wwe really wanted sting they should give in to his demands. Rumour has it he will only join if he is the 1 to end the undertakers streak and a hof induction remembered this is rumoured.
lucas57048 4 months ago
@lucas57048 It seems as if they're kissing up to him. So that one day, he may had work for them.
RandysWrestling 4 months ago
@RandysWrestling that does sound right as wwe wanted him to be the 2.21.11 guy 4 the dream match with taker
lucas57048 4 months ago
@lucas57048 They're trying to take credit for his career too, which shows you just how corporate WWE are
SpicyDragoon 4 months ago
@SpicyDragoon umm no stupid since WWE owns WCW property then they can do what they want, if Sting wasnt on here u fanboys would all bitch
Allapattahgoon 4 months ago 2
@Allapattahgoon I'm not really a fanboy. Sting just happens to be my favourite Wrestler. And the foundation of my point is with agreeing with lucas57048
SpicyDragoon 4 months ago
@Allapattahgoon Ok if WWE own all WCW stuff then why don't just make the Sting dvd showing his career from the NWA days till his last match in WCW.? if they own the footage then there can't be a problem now
lucas57048 4 months ago 2
@lucas57048 He can take legal action, in just the fact that his name is on it. Thats why
Divasandsuperstar 4 months ago in playlist More videos from dezaization
@Divasandsuperstar he could sue them but if they don't use the sting name then they r fine.after all how can sting sue wwe if they own all the wcw footage and not his name
lucas57048 4 months ago
@SpicyDragoon all true fans will know that WCW deserves credit for sting not WWE
lucas57048 4 months ago
@lucas57048 he was on WCW and that was just a part of the past of WWE

once upon a time there was two worlds the wwf and the wwe the wwf where the big boys rules and the wwe where the children rule wwf and wwe went to war and wwf won with non injuries or deaths and the leader of the wwf undertaker sacrafied the leader of the wwe john cena on an symbol that was called the symbol of death ( undertakers symbol)
