My AU tag reads "TDFYFE" Mr. Fyffe. The law wouldn't allow me to include the 2nd 'F'. I want you and your family to know that will ALWAYS be my tag and its a tribute to you good sir. I ran into you at age 13 on my way to Talladega at a Jack's. I gave a War Eagle, and you kindly responded. I know Heaven is perfect Mr. Fyffe, just know we miss you here in Auburn, AL.
Rod Bramblett sucks!! I wish AU would have made a better hire......he does nothing to continue the 'Touchdown Auburn' tradition. Re-incarnate Jim Fyffe./`
Yes he does. He says "Touchdown Auburn" once per game to honor Jim.. He says "Touchdown Tiigers" to show respect to Fyffe. It's hard to try to do the same thing without offending anyone. I love it when Rod yells touchdown Auburn though and wrote to AU network asking him to do it all the time. I imagine some day he will.
I am an Alabama fan, but I recognize talent when I see it. Without a doubt, Jim Fyffe was the best football announcer in this state for many years. I always knew down and distance, and I always knew the yardline and score when he announced. I cannot say the same for my university's present announcer or the ones of the past 25 years.
And by all accounts, he was a true gentleman away from the game.
Their will be no one in the world that can say Touchdown Auburn or War Eagle like him. I would listen to him on the radio and not watch the tv. He is one of the many reasons I converted from saying Roll Tide to War Eagle. Thanks Jim and to all of the Auburn family WAR EAGLE.
I would do the same thing when i was growing up. I would watch the game on TV but mute the sound just so i could hear Jim Fyffe call the game. Nobody painted a picture with words quite like him.
He gave a voice to our love for our Auburn Tigers. We always tuned in the radio station the day before, so we could listen to Jim Fyffe while we watched TV. Nobody was allowed to touch it once we had it set. There will never be anyone like him.
I cannot believe he has been gone over 5 years now. I remember last October outside the Bruno's in Gulf Shores seeing the tribute shirt for him, telling the lady how much I loved her shirt as I tried to fight back tears. I was friends with his daughter Christie for a while, and remember the bittersweet day she gave birth to her first son or Jim's grandson, two days after he passed away from his brain anurism. God Bless him and his family, and how I wished he could of lived to seen us in 2004.
What a great Auburn man. May God bless him and his family. He was looking down for sure on the 2004 season, and I'm sure it made him smile. Rest in peace, Mr. Fyffe, and WAR EAGLE!!! :)
Jim was from my hometown of Paintsville, Ky. He and my father both worked at WSIP radio there. We were very good friends. Jim had one of the best broadcasting voices ever!!! I live in Lexington, Ky home of the UK wildcats. I would see Jim sometimes when they came to town. It was a terrible shock when Jim passed away. He always had such good things to say about his wife and twin daughters. He loved them with all his heart. He was truly a great man. Rest in Peace friend.
I quit listening to AU net after Jim passed away. Rod just doesn't have it like he did. If Stan takes over, maybe I'll go back to listening to it. Jim really had a passion for football, and a deep love for Auburn, and We all miss him very much. WAR EAGLE.
Jim Fyffe WAS the voice for Auburn. When I hear him even now it brings a tear to my eye as I am sure it does all of the Auburn family. He is still calling Auburn games in Heaven I bet.
As a broadcast journalism major, Jim and I were on a first name basis. He was one of my biggest role models. I listened to him religiously. I can't tell you how sad I was when I found out he died. Nobody will ever be able to come close to Jim's qualities.
"TOUCHDOWN AUBURN!"
Gosh, if only he'd lived to see our 2004 season...
Rod's great, but Jim was THE BEST. War Eagle and Godspeed, Mr. Fyffe
