First time I've seen one pop out of a hole like that, phew! I was just wandering what was in that hole.
Once on the Guadulupe River in Texas (which has a very healthy population of cotton mouth) I also was molesting a cotton mouth for the purpose of photography, just like in this video, the difference was it was a steep muddy river bank. I kept pulling the aggitated snake down the bank to get better photos and finally it just decided to come at me in my canoe, it crossed the narrow gap of air and was coming right into my lap, without getting bit I knocked it into the water with my paddle/hand

@nootaramus That's because he handled snakes for the camera, and cottonmouths don't like to be held. They're much more comfortable in or near the water. They don't like being in the air and they get really agitated when picked up. Steve could always calm snakes as he held them. These guys get paranoid and won't be calmed, which makes them less than ideal for displaying for a camera. Besides, they only do their trademark display while they're on the ground. That's what the camera wants.

I used to find them all around the canals in Coral Springs Fla when I was kid in the 70s. There was a few banded water snakes, But you can tell up close wich one was a cottonmouth. They did not want anything to do with you. They would haul ass if you got to close. No way could you catch one.

Isnt fake. Have seen them plenty. I grew up in Florida. This is the only snake that I will kill on site. I have had them chase me, come across the water and then go under and stare at me from under the water as I was up on a dock, go out of their way and a long distance to try to come after me. Hate them. I have ridden a horse practically over a rattler and he held still. Moccasin - was about 50 feet away and came after me. Bad snake.
@tsblair95 When I was a young girl, I would fish off our dock a lot. One afternoon I casted over by the far bank - about 50 feet or more away. I heard a splash. Looked to see a moc coming straight as an arrow toward me. It went under water when about 10 feet from me and then stopped under the dock and coiled back under water looking up at me. When I moved, it moved. Then I looked around behind me and saw another coming hard and fast along the shoreline on the bank.

I ran along the dock toward the shore - knowing one was coming along the bank and that the other - since it had moved every time I moved looking up at me from about two feet under water - might be coming along under the water following. I jumped and ran hard. They can be VERY aggressive.

I remember as a kid my cousin and i were fishing at a creek and we saw the snake on the other end of the creek coming at us. We threw rocks, and sticks but it kept coming. The sunlight was reflecting off it's eyes. We didn't wait for it to come on shore, because everytime we threw rocks or sticks the snake would go under water and come back up and it was still swimming towards us. No more summer fishing for us.

Isnt fake. Have seen them plenty. I grew up in Florida. This is the only snake that I will kill on site. I have had them chase me, come across the water and then go under and stare at me from under the water as I was up on a dock, go out of their way and a long distance to try to come after me. Hate them. I have ridden a horse practically over a rattler and he held still. Moccasin - was about 50 feet away and came after me. Bad snake.

@tsblair95 When I was a young girl, I would fish off our dock a lot. One afternoon I casted over by the far bank - about 50 feet or more away. I heard a splash. Looked to see a moc coming straight as an arrow toward me. It went under water when about 10 feet from me and then stopped under the dock and coiled back under water looking up at me. When I moved, it moved. Then I looked around behind me and saw another coming hard and fast along the shoreline on the bank.

@tsblair95 I was on an elevated dock and knew they could not 'get' me but also didnt want to be there all night. I ran along the dock toward the shore - knowing one was coming along the bank and that the other - since it had moved every time I moved looking up at me from about two feet under water - might be coming along under the water following. I jumped and ran hard. They can be VERY aggressive.

@NUPPYNOONOO yup, when i was boy in N.C. I was walkign along the Toe river and a cotton mouth dropped from the bushes on the side of the river in front of me, stood up and charged at me while standing up......I made a world record speed run that day.....lol

@aberhollboi You are 100% right. Those snakes are very aggresive and will chase you. I remember as a kid my cousin and i were fishing at a creek and we saw the snake on the other end of the creek coming at us. We threw rocks, and sticks but it kept coming. The sunlight was reflecting off it's eyes. We didn't wait for it to come on shore, because everytime we threw rocks or sticks the snake would go under water and come back up and it was still swimming towards us. No more summer fishing for us.

why on earth would anyone kill a cottonmouth or any other snake unless its in there house but.. even then just shew it out with a broom , only by a show of ignorance would someone actively shoot a snake , i live in the south and i see these in our localponds alot and i just observe the display then walk away

Just for that comment, I'm going to shoot 2 snakes next month when it warms up. I generally don't like to shoot snakes because they kill disease carriers like rats. However, because you have a smart mouth, I'll kill two (they like hot rocks in the sun!) Want to smart off again, and I'll make it four. Check my channel out for the killing.
