How is it not cost effective? You can find an L28 anywhere for almost nothing and setting a turbo up [most parts can be found on ebay] is not difficult. L6 for the win!! Try finding a RB26 OR VQ35 for cheap. Then tell me where you got it.

How much does the turbo engine that you have run for. All I gotta get for the car is a new battery and a heater Core. Also, is there anyway I can just stop the coolant from getting in the car without spending money on a whole new heater core? Im a poor college student. lol.
@VTEC313 i swapped a L28ET into my 81 280zx non turbo the only issue you will run into is if you keep the ball steering the power steering box is in the way of the bracket holding the wastegate and accuator for the turbo so you have to cut some of the bracket so it fits around the power steering box or you can just upgrade to rack & pinion.
@VTEC313 i use to have a 79 best car i've ever had mine had a turbo in it it was a beast never had to pull the e-brake to drift it did it on its own on pavement no less lol

buy a 180 degree bend (copper or pvc) and bypass the heatercore all together, did that w/ my 79 280zx and worked fine until i could get a core.

Hell yeah it will fit, the 79 and my motor are the same size except that mine is turbo, it will bolt right in, no modification. Reallt recommend it.
