@arsenicCatnipNL2 . My little sister and I would watch this with our dad and she'd be balling(or maybe it was me). He'd wipe away her tears while she held on to him for comfort. We lost my father in '05 and my sister in '07 tragically and every time I listen to the track it brings me back to those childhood moments with them. I'm on the verge of tears each time I listen to it (and I'm a grown ass man!). But still a very emotional, triumphant and powerful song. 1 of my favorite classics!!

I used to really respect the oceans with movies like this. There is so much out there to of which dominates most of the planet. I enjoyed this film it shows how intelligent other life forms really are in the seas. Great masterpiece of a soundtrack!!!

i just watched the movie , and my partner in crime is gonna make a review... the movie... not so good... u dont really get to know more of the characters..but the music.... amazing!!!!
A masterpiece film!! Ennio Morricone is a genius!! he will always be!! I remember when I first watched this movie, there was a sense of "shit, another jaw type film" than....that shot where one of the orcas was killed changed my life forever!! The background score and the female orca been taken by his mate to the shore! FUCK! i couldn´t stop crying....like a baby ! now I am 38 and I am still in love with this film!! All hail it!!
@renatoavatarian I agree that movie is awesome. Many people criticized it they don't understand the battle of man vs whale.. good movie w/ a good story...
The mid-to-late 70s saw a slew of animal-monster related films and every movie studio jumped on the bandwagon. I'm fortunate to have seen them all on the silver screen when they were first released. Starting with JAWS in 1975 there followed King Kong, Grizzly, White Buffalo, ORCA and a whole bunch of lesser-known others. But this film soundtrack has the most haunting yet beautifully written melody/composition of them all (in my opinion.) I get very emotional every time I listen to this track.
THIS MOVIE IS AMAZING FOR MANY REASONS, ONE BEING, IT ISNT SIMPLY THAT A WHALE DIED,,, IT WAS AN ACCIDENT, AND CAP. NOLAN FELT HORRIBLE,,,,,WHICH GIVES THE MOVIE MORE DEPTH.
@keithypoo31 That's an excellent point. I haven't seen the film in 30 years, but I seem to recall a scene in which Nolan is actually confessing to a priest that he killed the whale. I remember the line, so hauntingly delivered by Richard Harris: "Is it possible... to commit a sin... against an animal?"
i seen this film when it first came out you could hear a pin drop and when richard harris killed the female orca whale by mistake you could see the shock in is eyes.the part that got me into tears was when the male orca pushed is dead female along to the shore and the fantasic ennio morricone score. i got the original LP and dvd and all these years later the film and music still gets to me.
The difference between Jaws and Orca is the fact that killer whales are really intelligent. A great white shark, while being a kick ass predator and smarter than a lot give credit too, isn't close to being as smart and potentially emotional as a killer whale. When the whale's mate, and thus it's calf, are killed and it pushes the female to shore to die is a hardcore scene and the pissed off look in the whale's eye tells the story. A true classic...
I watched this movie more than 15 years ago when i was really young. It had such a deep impact at me. I watched it again few months ago, it is still epic. Scenes from this movie you'll never forget.
Despite after Jaws, this movie has been extremely touching for me. Yeah, Jaws is great movie, but there has been no tears through all scenes. Regardning Orca,
how can I forget the scene of the tears in the male orcas eyes when the
female orca was killed... yeah never forget that with lots tears..
ennio morricone wrote this score.this and many westerns starring clint eastwood would become some of the most beautiful scores ever written in my opinion.
A pesar de tantos años, yo era tan pequeña y esta soundtrack es lo mas hermoso que he escuchado en tantos años, Orca la ballena asesina es una pela que te hace pensar y sentir . @TheSilentClown1 I agree! it's one of my all time favorites and it is the most classical of all films (second to sleeping beauty). It's every bit as classical as jaws. THough made 2 years after, ORCA is NOT a jaws rip-off. My favorite scene was, in fact when the orca sent the great white in the air.
i will never forget this wonderfull movie and amazing soundtrack , when i listen to this soundtrack i feel peace i feel glory i feel happy i feel so good its so amazing
The first time i saw this movie i cried like a baby. Such a touchy story and something we shouldn't ignored about killer whales. Thank you for uploading the music!
I was two years old. I first saw it when i was 7, i cried my eyes out and seen it not long ago to, still brought a tear. Why are we humans so cruel to animals, when they do not hunt us.
I'm trying to find this very same exact composition from Ennio Morricone as it is heard here. Can someone please tell me the name of whatever this version is called so I can locate it and buy it on itunes. Thanx! ;)
Wspaniała muzyka, niesamowity film, mysle ze kazdy powinien go zobaczyc.
I agree with you insofar as the music, but the movie, although rough around the edges, had many lovely, deeply-touching scenes that when combined with Ennio's score, could really melt your heart.
You are right! Like the part were the male whale pushes the females body to shore. I swear I couldnt hold my tears back LOL. I'm trying to buy the soundtrack online somehow.
I saw this on TV around 1979 or so (I was 7) and it left a deep mark on me; although rough around the edges, it was a love story with some beautifully shot scenes and an almost chillingly beautiful soundtrack that's remained etched in my mind and my heart all these years later. So many people trashed the film for so many years; I'm glad to see it's finally getting a bit of the artistic respect it justly deserves.
No offense, but I love this movie too. I just think it's cheesy in the fact that throughout the entire movie the whales are mechanical and at one point in the movie the orca roars. Orcas do not roar. I just thought I would say that.
I saw orca killer whale when I was about ten.(19) years ago . I found it on a copppied VHS my dad recorded off the tv. Even to this day before I found it on you tube , I could remember so much about the film and the music. Even though part of you thinks the film is a crock of €$## there is something about it that grabs you and kinda haunts you forever !
Did you know that the orcas are not whales?? Well they belong to the great dolphin family and took their name as "killer whales" due to the fact that they kill whales (among other sea mammals) to feed!! Regards from Greece
WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i can,t believe i found this i haven,t heard this score in 30 years.i love ennios music, i saw this film in 1979 with my parents. the melody starts off very hunting but becomes very moving. this score sets the tone for a very peaceful environment . i love it.
This song is just utterly beautiful. To think it was part of that problematic movie! No-one could take it seriously, which is such a shame, because pars of it were so moving and other parts so moving.
This music, however, I think, is probably Morricone's best. It's so strong and so compelling. I pray one day someone will rediscover and re-record it.
This music is rousing and excellent (as is nearly everything by Morricone), but "Orca" was crap. Charlotte Rampling was okay (but played the part like a bitchy Bond girl waiting to be seduced) and the climactic showdown on the ice-floe was very well executed (if unfortunately brief), but the rest of the movie was laughable.
Dude, Ennio Mornicone rocks (good the bad and the ugly, cinema paradiso) probably one of the last great composers of our time. Allot of emotion in his compositions.
Potente, profondo, insopportabile triste melodia ( ed anche il film! ).....Meraviglioso Morricone!!!!

One of the most moving pieces of music ever. If you like this check out The Final Fight from Buffy the vampire slayer. Powerful stuff indeed.

The Movie wasnt the best but the soundtrack is a genius masterpiece, an unoticed, priceless gem.

I have stop listening to this song...with or without lyric.
Track with lyrics is heart brakeing
If there is a remake (they always do)
I hope "we our one" will be included (original)

No offense, but I love this movie too. I just think it's cheesy in the fact that throughout the entire movie the whales are mechanical and at one point in the movie the orca roars. Orcas do not roar. I just thought I would say that.

I saw orca killer whale when I was about ten.(19) years ago . I found it on a copppied VHS my dad recorded off the tv. Even to this day before I found it on you tube , I could remember so much about the film and the music. Even though part of you thinks the film is a crock of €$## there is something about it that grabs you and kinda haunts you forever !

i love this animal and all the whales
giogiorfifi 2 years ago
Did you know that the orcas are not whales?? Well they belong to the great dolphin family and took their name as "killer whales" due to the fact that they kill whales (among other sea mammals) to feed!! Regards from Greece
sando1975 2 years ago
yes i do... but i also love the whales :)

Absolutely love this score, watched the film as a kid and have loved it ever since, people who dismiss it as rubbish just don't understand it.

The movie was excellent and very moving! Some people just did not get it.
I watched it as a child and it hit a nerve with me and stayed with me forever.
FANTASTIC MOVIE!

This song is just utterly beautiful. To think it was part of that problematic movie! No-one could take it seriously, which is such a shame, because pars of it were so moving and other parts so moving.
This music, however, I think, is probably Morricone's best. It's so strong and so compelling. I pray one day someone will rediscover and re-record it.

when you hear this and see the struggle of the orca at the end the emotion is there, hell the orca was the best actor in the movie
skwcw2001 2 years ago
Not hard for the orca since the movie was a God-awful piece of shit.
pytko3 2 years ago
dont get me wrong i agree with you it was a very bad movie i still say the only thing that made it watchable for me was the whale lol.
skwcw2001 2 years ago
i think really some people do not understand this music.
You should watch the film and see how people go to the Pole and ice to meet their death there and THIS music playing
rocket8999 2 years ago
This music is rousing and excellent (as is nearly everything by Morricone), but "Orca" was crap. Charlotte Rampling was okay (but played the part like a bitchy Bond girl waiting to be seduced) and the climactic showdown on the ice-floe was very well executed (if unfortunately brief), but the rest of the movie was laughable.

ive seen the movie(few times) still makes me cry.

Dude, Ennio Mornicone rocks (good the bad and the ugly, cinema paradiso) probably one of the last great composers of our time. Allot of emotion in his compositions.
