  • This was and always will be Tom's band. I love Michael M, but their unique sound was the result of Tom's songwriting.Without him they are a blue-eyed soul singer's backing band--which I ALSO love, by the way, only one bearing precious little relation to The Doobie Brothers.

  • Always makes me cry! Even after 30 plus years....

  • LOVE The Doobies!!! Always have; always will, since day one...

  • Magic? The '70s? I think you hadda be there

  • great song, definitely should have been a much bigger hit than #32 on Billboard IMHO

  • I hate Warner Brothers so much.

  • Man could he sing, especially apparent when he does it live - no retakes, no overdubs.

Really beautiful song, great melodic guitar.

  • Oh how I miss the rhythm guitar that closes out the album version! The sax player is great here, but I so love the tight rhythms of the studio version.

  • Sooo mellow and soothing.

  • Albums. Album covers. Colored vinyl discs. Tri-fold double albums. Marantz stereo receiver. Jensen speakers. Saving up $25 to buy a really good stylus. Getting the "magnetic" record cleaner. Record shops. My kids will never know what they missed. Probably why they borrow all my Beatles, Zepplin and Who and the oldest is 14.

  • @frankrizzo51 do you remember which group(s) put out those colored discs? i remember all those things you mention! yup it's an experience we will remember but not today's generation. too bad.

  • @jaytotheell I know ELO had one for Out of the Blue. I think STYX had one with the Pieces of Eight cover on the disc itself. I also believe Meat Loaf had a picture disc for Bat out of Hell. I'm going to try to research this since I'm going nuts about it!!

  • @frankrizzo51 please do! then get back to me and tell me what you have found!

  • This is a GREAT song.

  • Can someone post the studio version? This song so clearly reveals the magic that was so prevalent in the music of the 70's. Thanks to the Doobies forever!

  • True California sound at it's best. One of my all time favorites. It just makes you want to sit in the park or lay on the beach and watch all the people go by.

  • One of my favorite Doobie Brothers songs. Off the album "What Were Once Vices Are Now Habits"

  • Americana served up daily with this tune.

  • for Laura....1979...long distance relationships suck...Frisco to Santa Fe...I will never forget......

  • My all time favorite song from my all time favorite group. The very first album I bought in '72 was Captain and Me and I've been hooked on the Doobies ever since. Looking forward to seeing them at the Missouri State Fair on August 12th!

  • I'm a huge Dobbie Bros Fan. Seen them twice in Boise. This song is such a good mood song!

  • Play this every Sunday.....and then some. Thanks Doobies

  • BEAUTIFUL SONG THAT NEVER GETS OLD!

  • that's a big brother on bass

  • This song is for Sue (I think that's her name). Eastern Stu working out'a Atlanta or Miami, flew from LA to Dallas where she deplaned into the foggy mist of memories and I went back to Jackson, MS. But she was a kindred soul, I was married at the time (for 'bout 10 more months, if that!) and played it straight and didn'ttry to start anything. Wish I had. So Sue Somebody fm '74, still remember you and hope that you're doing well and are happy. Just think about you from from time to time!

  • What a beautiful song. I keep gravitating to this classic. Growing up in the seventies. It was a wonderful time for Rock and Roll and being alive. Plan on seeing the DB this August at the Missouri state fair.

  • SAW THEM 2 YEARS AGO IN RALEIGH, NC - THEY WERE AWEOME:=)

  • great music!!

  • It isn't summertime without hearing this song! Thanks for posting! Love it!

  • LOVE LOVE LOVE IT

  • The Doobs hit #32 in Billboard, 6-8-74. God bless ya, for postin' it. Thanx! Let me know if you wanna see 'em put in the Rock Hall of Fame.

  • chills - such a great song :)

  • Thanks for posting this...great live version...long overdue.

  • It would nice if radio stations played this song along with Eyes of Silver..I think we have all heard Black water.

  • @milkywaycenter I am right there with you on that one. The Doobies have more than the 3-4 songs that are just beat to death on the radio

  • Sirwob, WTF??? Why bash Michael McDonald? Why can't Tom Johnston AND MM be talented performers? It sure seemed to work out pretty well for everyone concerned, and all made ALOT of money on the talents of both men. Why be a hater?

  • In a way I feel bad that kids today may not get a chance to experience this stuff and feel the great feelings that comes with great music like this.

This brings back some sweet summertime memories that span from childhood through teen+ years.

  • take that bitch a.k.a. Michael MacDonald

  • this song gives me goose bumps

  • this is how real singers, real bands do it. not like the so called "music" of today. sublime!

  • One of the Doobies Bros most soothing songs-and one of my faves- this live performance was pretty good-I usually try to find the studio version- but this will suffice-The lead singer still looks and sounds great-

    Thanks for posting it Chalzfoed

  • WOw. what an amazing band! No wonder they are in ny top 10 all time bands. Their music is well written, arranged, prodcued and performed. LIsten to all the chord progression and changes. This band is not your one trick pony band playing only 4 chords..

  • Damn Warner Music blockage B.S.!

Why wont You Tube allow the Original Studio Recordings of these Songs from the Albums to be posted on their site anymore?

  • very underated doobie tune

  • This is my all-time favorite Doobie Brothers song, the one I consider their best. Patrick Simmons is a good songwriter but I think Tom Johnston was the best writer in the group. This is a very nice live version.

  • Rap needs to go !

  • IN THIS VIDEO YOU CAN SEE KNUDSEN PLAYING THE DRUMS HE IS GONE NOW (ANOTHER VICTOM TO CANCER)

  • @sheddski Cure for cancer? The government will never allow it...people die, decrease the surface population and never receive their social security checks. I guess they should have cured it when they cured Polio.

  • great song, great band until michael mcdonald came along to stink it up by changing an already original sound, thanks, mike, you hump

  • ok, I'll add my 2 cents, '73, San Jose Calif., cruisin' the strip, good times, good times

  • one of the greatest bands ever...especially live....

  • Now this is MUSIC!

  • Anybody have the studio version? Loved this song ever since I first heard it, first album I ever bought...........

  • @jc9ball Got the studio version on that old media called vinyl bud. Not sure how I can download it to You Tube for you though from that lol! Take care dude, great music never dies. I think that those of us who can live with popular music from the late 50's to late 70's are very priviledged. We have seen the best of the genre and I am 45 but listened to my dad's and uncles music. My uncle had over 2000 records ranging from Elvis and Howlin Wolf through the Beatles, The Stones, The Byrds etc

  • @jc9ball Crosby Stills and Nash, The Eagles, James Taylor, Creedence, Janis Joplin, Doobies and Jackson Browne. All first editions, He sadly passed away in 2000 but I have told his sons - My cousins Jason and Lee - "Keep your dads record collection very safe as it is worth a fortune!!!". They know that and have inherited the rich love of all music that my uncle Marty had. XXXX

  • I was 10 years old in 1975 and a dreadfully unhappy child. Although I was good at sports and popular I just did not fit in at all. I spent my time learning to play the guitar and piano and listening to my fathers records, the Doobies and Eagles. Another boy put a rumour around that I was queer so I took him out and gave him a kicking. It turned out that he had been bullied for being gay - we became great friends and I looked after him as I was big for my age.

  • why three drumers ? any way greate song found this by complete acciddent

  • @MrWavedude102 It is strange I agree. Never really understood why they had 2 drummers. One of them is percussion, but it still makes a great sound eh buddy? Share the love :) XX

  • @MrWavedude102 Maybe they were having auditions and had a few spliffs and thought "Hey you guys are both really good, lets just have a blast with both of you" Ha ha. Love and Peace

  • It's always a treat when a band sounds as great live as they do on record. And the best part is.... no Michael McDonald !!

  • This Rocks! Great Vid

  • this IS classic rock

  • fuck you WMG!

  • I can be in the worst mood ever, and to hear this song makes it all better.

  • Marc Russo's fab sax solo really tops it off

  • rising park in lancaster ohio 1974. detail your car in the shade and check it all out....

  • @396belair Oh MAN you just NAILED it. Those WERE the days and Those WERE the Things to Do in those days!!!!!

  • Oh my, the memories.......... late nights, good conversation, Cuervo 1800 (Cold Gold shots), and puff.....the night turned to morning.

  • Fall of 1975, parking and making out with Linda down by the swimming pool. What a Fall that was. This always motivated me during cross-country season! Great tune and especially LIVE!

  • What an awesome concert - wish I could have been there! Thank you for posting it!

  • Get better soon, Skylark. Your enthusiasm and talent are infectious. Thanks for all the great bass lines and vocals. Look forward to more very soon.

  • When I am down in out I listen to the Doobies!!! They are the best!!! I have seen them in concert since the 70's so many times & have never been disappointed --they keep me on my feet & still rockin until this day!!! The 70's had the best bands & thank God we have passed it down to our kids!!!

  • yes u can get this on the live at Wolftrap dvd of the what were once vices album

  • This is a kick song, flowwwwssss to the soullllll.

  • wow, fantastic!

  • When I listen to this I'm glad I was kicking when it was brand new and I don't feel bad a bit for getting old. I will always have great memories.

  • Great video. One of my favorite songs.*****

  • @RamonaFromPomona Me too!

  • Know what Sundays and this song are good for?

  • oh yeah... this is the best...

  • This song brings it!!

  • ONE OF THE BEST SONGS BY THE DOOBS........THIS SONG IS SO UNDERRATED

  • I remember my oldest brother coming back from Fort Bragg in North Carolina when Nixon had stop the Vietnam conflict and my brother bringing his Pioneer receiver and Garrard turntable and listening to this. To me CCR and Dobbie Brothers Tom Johnston have similarities. I agree with others and wish that rap would go away it has no business as pop music. It's true to many performers and no real musicians of this beloved craft.

  • Great song and Great band. People can sit and argue over styles of music all

they want. This is straight up northern california party music here. The origin of

this is in the hills above Santa Cruz and down in San Jose these dudes took

their style and their attitude to the streets and they were Rockin Down The Highway

  • One of their lesser known masterpieces. Today there are no more "Musicians" in the Music. Fantastic vocals. Thanks for posting. Im breakin out my LP's.

  • Those harmonys are still PERFECT!

  • muito bommmmmmmmmmm

  • Crying my eyes out here. beautifull song. such good memories.

  • wow...windows down..hair flapping...this song playing..headed to big breakers for fun in the sun..

    luv those memories...

    sandcrab

  • Rap hangs on like a Cancer for a few simple reasons. 1.) There is NO

instrument to Master. 2.) ANY Moron can do it. 3.) 90% of the success of

ANY Rap song is directly proportional to the amount of Scantily-Clad-females shaking parts of their bodies their Parents would slap the shit out of them for. 4.) Un-Educated and/or Poorly Educated people are easily entertained. 5.) Fast/Quick easy $. Does'nt require Yrs. of practice for

perfection, refinement. Think, Fine Wine vs Wine from a box.

  • this is a great, well written, well performed tune...and ya, I'm with you guys....Rap is a nightmare....for some reason they want to call themselves musicians....Don't figure...for all of you who love good ol' rock and roll with some blues influence ( like the doobies ) check out " Joe Bonamassa....Great musician and writer...

  • the guitars could have been harder, they were weak

  • @sausageslaps How old are you? This isn't acid rock

  • @Intelvipers ya no shit dude, try listening to this song from the album, the vocals overpower the strings in this live performance.

  • A great Live performance, thank you.

  • Thank god for Tom Johnston, Patrick Simmons and, later, Michael McDonald. They made my youth.

  • god wat a great song, commercial, but not without soul

  • excellent version. I wish You Tube would have the original Studio version from 1974/75

  • My older brother had the "What were once vices are now habits" album. I used to sneak into his room and thrash this track and the "Tell me what you want..". I still love it ..takes me back.

  • wow!! this song gives me chills, takes me many years back in great times for sure

  • Marco Paiva, anywhere? This song reminds me of YOU! Edwards AFB, 1974. I love this song and the memories I that come sailing to mind. Beautiful breezy song... Thank you, Doobies!!! I love you (sans Michael McDonald(!!!

  • Strange I should come across this video and see the thread.......I downloaded the album thinking about a high school crush who had found me after 30 years.......This was great music, made when people actually wrote songs.

  • Nah, the sax is cool...not overstated. And I'm a guitar player. They've played this song, what, 10^6 times? Mix it up. Whatever it was, these guys had their finger on the pulse.

  • Reminds me of when my brother brought a Pioneer receiver and a Garrard turntable when he came back from the Army in 1973 sounded great then and even better now. Tom Johnston great voice!

  • song is ruined by too much sax...sorry...it drowns out the beautiful guitar work that made me fall so madly in love with this song..:(

  • that was sooo awesome!!! one of my all time favorites

  • I LOVE the sax! This is a prime example of why a good band is better live! They do different arrangements....different solos....yet they rock even BETTER!

  • I got reacquainted after a very long time apart...but this sang true for all those years. Nearly 30 to be exact.

  • After watching these vids.....makes me reflect back to the days when artist and their music was in it's pureist forms. (Doobies, Chicago and many more )

There's days when I wake up and wish all these Rap artist and other wanna be's would just go away. Ya know.....like it was a bad dream

  • @1tallguy49

I am with you tallguy, rap is just a bad dream!

  • @1tallguy49 I agree with you....greetings

  • @1tallguy49, I thought I was the only one who thought that about the rap crap crowd. Glad to see I'm not alone and in good company.

  • @1tallguy49

I couldnt have said it better myself..LOL so I won't

  • @1tallguy49 Its not a bad dream man it is here to stay unfortunately. People will always bang their garden furniture together and create a song that gets in the charts. But there will always be great music like the Doobies and Chicago and Boston and The Eagles. Keep the Faith XX

  • @1tallguy49 Dont worry man great music will always trancend the drivell. It will I promise share the love :)

It does not matter how old you are :)

    Keep The Faith XX

  • They really did an outstanding job on this song for doing it LIVE

  • I could swear this song was written for me. lol One of my fav Doobie songs. New and old memories with this.

  • Same here! Takes me back to high school and a first true love . . .and makes me think of true love in general . . .

  • @JohnLRice

Thanks for your reply. And your right. TRUE Love!?

  • @JohnLRice How many "true loves" can one have? Or was it true lust?

  • @Boghman22

I think over a life time you can develop true love for many people. It isn't just about a "life partners" or "soul mates" etc. You can truely love your children, parents, siblings, and close friends. Even pets! (seriously!) You can even truely love someone who doesn't love you back (unfortunately). It's sad that people rarely develop true love for themselves. IMHO

Peggy S in high school was VERY cute, but for me it was all about my heart and not about my "part"! ;-)

  • @JohnLRice Crap...I certainly don't love my internet browser-I had constructed a very well improvised and eloquent response, but it seems that my computer had different plans for said response-maybe I'll reply later, sigh*....

  • That proofs one more time: Old is gold!

  • Michael Mac is a fine singer and musician and did some nice work with

this band, but they REALLY are the Doobie

Brothers with T.J. on lead vocals.

  • 37 years for me. All the times then I loved. The early 70's. I enlisted in 75', and kissed my girl goodbye, we promised each other we'd meet sep 1st, '79. I never saw her face again.

  • Serves you right you evil murderer

  • Dedicated to my Dad, That past away 1983.. He was very cool down an to earth, Skiing, Fishing, Camping Buddy, Never thought he leave.. Love and Peace Always

  • cobra, always keeps those nice thoughts in your head...will get you thru the rough times...chin up

Greetings from Peru my friend. Peace to your country.

  • ninteen, living the life in evergreen co. nights at tulagi's on the hill in boulder, the doobie bros., everytime they were there. though skylark's an admirable bass player, i miss tiran porter on bass. he asked me out the first time they played there, but i had a boyfriend. he was a gentleman about it. in their early days, anyway. i recall going back home to boston raving about them to my friends who didn't hear about them until a year later.

  • Tyran and I burned a bowl of freebase together 'round 1980. Yer right..., Nice guy, and a hell of a bass player!!!!

  • Remember those wonderful afternoons back in 70's with my friends in AQP, PERU listening to the Doobs, Cat Stevens, Seals & Crofts, Grand Funk....man, how I miss them.

Didn't know the world would turn out to be so fucked up.

    PEACE to all.

  • YOU SAID IT !!! Ya, I miss those days too. What a mess this world is in, huh? Well, maybe if there are more people out there who would just want LOVE & PEACE - we'll all see a bright light in the near future !

  • My favorite Doobie song...love it. Memories of my carefree younger days in the 70's...thanks for sharing.

  • @tazie45 You are absolutely right...my favorite, as well !

  • @tazie45

Skipping school and heading out to Brighten Dam to play frizbee and get high

  • Yup...just another Sunday... I like this one....

  • This always makes me sad to realise what all we've lost since those happier, simpler times...Most of all, that I'm not 17 anymore...Dammittall !!

  • chg657

Greetings man...I share your feelings exactly. Peace from Peru. Take care.

  • hey starlitblond, god, the picture of you that i have hed in my mind ever since i heard this song...gives me goose bumps just thinking of what your smile has ment to me for so many years...thanks beautiful one !

  • I love that move that bass player does..

  • I didn't hear this song until the spring of 1977. I was a HS senior and heard the song before school in the morning. This song got me so stoked that I placed third in a 400m even though I was in the 2nd heat. I guess it opened all my chakras! LOL

  • Just remember this next time you think your parents are old fogies. This '70's band rocked way back then, and STILL DO! Ahhh, the good 'ole days...they even sounded great without all the HD/Digital sound enhancement. You young 'uns have it so easy! ^_^

  • I am a pretty smile you can get into..

  • ..."the radio just brings me down"

That line is why this song never got alot of radio time...

The establishment is so paranoid ?

  • this IS the best song!!!! what a classic! they don't make music like that these days.. kind of sucks if you don't mind me saying.. That Tom is such a great singer and guitarist.

  • Keith Knudsen's position has been filled by Ed Toth. Ed was in the band, "Vertical Horizon" that had a hit called, "You're a God." I think this replacement is appropriate, since Keith himself came from Lee Michaels, who was another one hit wonder. Of course, I'm sure we all miss Keith.

  • My all time favorite band. Saw them on the best of all possible tours in about 1975 or 76 with the Memphis horns, Skunk, Michael McDonald and Tom Johnson. I would love to see them again

  • This is an AWESOME live version of Another Park Another Sunday. I had the studio version of this first on a 45 record, back in the 70s, for the turntable. The Doobie Brothers have A TON of excellent material. This is one of their finest. Recording + Performing together for years, they are a class act. The harmony in their voices, the instrumentals, the two drum sets, etc. are all outstanding. The saxophone finale in this live video starting at about 4:06 is amazing. Thank you for posting this.

  • Talk about talent! Holy Shit!

  • Holy shit! They could have recorded this tune as is, without any editing! Played perfectly!!!!!!

  • This is a true doobie tune!!! A big fan since the seventies can you Imagine hoe I felt when I met them finally at the Ambassador hotel in Amarillo!! Took Tom to the Dr for his carpel tunnel, Took them to a friends restaurant and to movies. They spent a whole week in Amarillo in "95" I worked at the hotel...

  • I adore Tom Johnson and Pat Simmons.....my touch stones and the are the Doobies...always will be and always are....love you guys....big time...Tina

  • Best Doobie song ever.....My favorite.....always.....

  • totally agree ,this is the best doobie song

  • Every contemporary 'musician' should be forced to watch this -- proceeded by assuming the fetal position, sucking their thumb and wetting themselves -- take that Disney

  • these guys are SHAMAZING in concert.

  • my car is empty and the radio just seems to bring me down..................

  • ...i listen to this song everyday...

  • I'll never forget this....my first "time"....man this brings back some emotion!

  • I have a thing for Pat.. watch out..

  • I thank Tim Lawrence of Brisbane, Ca for turning me on to this great fucking song!!

  • Here are to the Doobies...they rock big time....and always will.....

  • Hear hear!! *Raises glass*

  • wow does this brings back great memories, the ones that make you smile politely to yourself, remembering, thats a good thing...

  • I agree with Rick, Tom Johnston, Doobie harmonies, and a far-off sad song
