Although there are many biblical allusions and references, I don't belive that this song is actually meant for that. Most of his lyrics always run deeper than their face value meaning, if you get that. I think it's more about life and feeling alone. About wanting some one to save you, but being scared you'll just hurt them and push them away. It's about feeling alone, and feeling depressed. I think at least. I don't think that it's about bonding with Christ at all.

my friend killed himself less than a month after this song was released as a single, so needless to say it was constantly on the radio. every time i hear it i'm brought back to the early morning/late night of the day he died. i was driving home from a bar and i would have been less than a minute away from his house... it's so weird to think that, while i was driving home, he was having his last cigarettes contemplating if he wanted to live or not. i can't shake that thought.

Although there are many biblical allusions and references, I don't belive that this song is actually meant for that. Most of his lyrics always run deeper than their face value meaning, if you get that. I think it's more about life and feeling alone. About wanting some one to save you, but being scared you'll just hurt them and push them away. It's about feeling alone, and feeling depressed. I think at least. I don't think that it's about bonding with Christ at all.

my friend killed himself less than a month after this song was released as a single, so needless to say it was constantly on the radio. every time i hear it i'm brought back to the early morning/late night of the day he died. i was driving home from a bar and i would have been less than a minute away from his house... it's so weird to think that, while i was driving home, he was having his last cigarettes contemplating if he wanted to live or not. i can't shake that thought.

@07foxmulder Life sometimes throws tragedy our way and it is very easy to think what we could've/should've done differently to change the situation even though it didn't work out that way in reality. Given that you have taken the time and thought to post in memory of him, he was very lucky to have you as a friend and that will resonate throughout eternity.

@blumettle thanks for the response. it's not that i believe i could have done something to help him, it's just weird to think that we were in two completely different mindsets at the exact same time & only a minute away from each other. if that makes any sense. what makes the whole situation even heavier is that i was the last one out of our friends to talk to him. he died on a sat morning and i saw him the tues (i think) before. i've never really talked about any of this until now.

I believe Jesus lived and died, just like anyone else. I'm not sure if he was the Holy Son of God, or if the entire thing was just one woman's lie about having an affair that got out of hand. But that doesn't matter. It doesn't change the fact that Brand New fucking rocks and this song is amazing.

God sent Him down in flesh to be tortured and killed on the cross to fulfill his (God's) prophecy. To let us all know of the future, and for us to have a bigger chance into Heaven instead of asking for forgiveness through a blood of an animal. And people still deny Him. Everyday He is giving you a chance! That's why you wake up! God is only watching now, and He could end the world any moment He wants to. And when He does make His move, it'll be too late for everyone that denied Him.

Bachelors in history here and also an atheist. Jesus of Nazareth WAS a real person, magical wizard powers withstanding, but they have found Roman Death Record of the guy that talked to him while they were both on the cross, a serial rapist and thief, and they DID record his death, so, if we take the bible as a piece of historical literature like the greek epics then we can ASSUME Jesus was real just by the fact the man who died next to him is accounted for and in that acount two other men died.

@Fatabbothey Yes it is filled with stories, stories with correlations to life a.k.a a parable. They aren't necesserily true stories but it explains a scenario of events. However, if we take the new testament alone then what it teaches is a basic idea of loving each other, unlike the old testament. I think you are confusing religion with a faith. Christianity doesn't teach paedophilia at all but people read the church's action against the priests as tolerant, which is abhorrent.

I think what you're saying is actually pretty likely- it's about self-destruction, thinking that you're too flawed for the good things around you.That's just my two cents, I don't think you're far off. However, the band members came from an area of New York that lost a lot of good people at sea, I would bet that some parts of Play Crack the Sky are pretty literal.
