The Italian government - INDEED THE ITALIAN CONSTITUTION - provides that German is an official language in South Tyrol, that French is official in Val d'Aosta, and Friuliano in Friuli. This shows the direct opposite of oppression - that Italy respects its minority groups. Additionally, both Friuli and Val d'Aosta voluntarily are a part of Italy - not "forced." The Province of Quebec under the Constittuion Act of 1867 has BOTH English and French as Co-Official Languages. Bill 22 (Official Language Act) and Bill 101 (Charter of the French Language) are Illegal in my oppion and must be abolished and English restored as an Equal Language to French.

So the Dominion of Canada can have 2 Bilingual English-French Provinces and 2 Sister Provinces (Quebec and Acadia). The Capital City of the Province of Acadia should be Halifax because it is the largest Citiy in either New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island and Nova Scotia.

Bilingualism in New-Brunswick passed because 34% of New-Brunswickers were the Acadians, and it was not easy to implement it.

Reguarding the British treatment of the Acadians. I know that the British did not treat the Acadians very well and burned their homes and deportated them from Acadia to Louisiana and I believe this is wrong and shamefull, but the British only expelled the Acadians for not showing alliegance to King George II and loyaty to Great Britian after it was conquered and not because they were French people. We must also remember that the French massacred British American Communities too.
Well I think that Acadian, adopted a strategy of absolute neutrality, at a period in history when that was nearly unheard of.... I mean people were subject of kings and queens... you are slaves in fact... but acadien were there negociating... they were in fact democrats at a time when this was impossible.
Not alot of people realise that in fact the Acadian signed an oath of allegiance..... but a conditional one, they had obtained some exemptions, but....
..when war got worse, the English came to the Acadians, and demanded a TOTAL COMPLETE oath, Acadians wanted to remain neutral and wanted to continue with a conditionnal oath that would mean they would not have to Fight and kill Micmacs and Canadians (now uebecers).
That is how the English got they chance to deport the French Neutrals (Acadians) and fill the land with Protestants (from England and Germany).
Back then, also,it was more about Catholic-Protestant, less about the language part.

The Acadians were in a rock and hard place with being forced to sign their oath to allegiance to King George II, even though they were treated quite badly by the British in a way they were more lucky then they think. I have much sympathy with the Acadian people. We know the loyalist story pretty well, Most english from new Brunswick are either from Loyalist or Irish stock. They actually split Nova Scotia in two to create a province for the loyalist (New Brunswick), during all that time, Acadians we living in the wilderness on the New Brunswick territory, it just took some time for us to affirm ourselves as a co-founding member of New Brunswick under the banner of equality, since we were there all along.
My Loyalist Ancestors did not flee to the Province of Nova Scotia but to the Province of Quebec. My Loyalist Ancestors came from Boston and set up shop in Quebec City and Montreal.
I have never agreed with the seperation of the Province of New Brunswick from the Province of Nova Scotia, I have always believed that the Maritime Provinces (Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island and New Brunswick) should have remaind united and a single Province which should be called Acadia.
Another thing to think about, you are proposing this as a way to help consolidate Quebec into canada, but maritimers usually discuss Maritime Union in the edvent that Quebec Seperates or Canada dissolves and then Maritime provinces are in danger of being annexed by the USA, they view Maritime Union as a way to avoid annexation...
Speaking of Quebec Seperating from the Dominion of Canada, I do not believe that it will happen. I also believe that the Government and Supreme Court should declare any form of Seperatism either in Quebec or Alberta as High Treason punnishble by Life in Prison. I also would like the Parti Quebecois to be banned because it threatens Canadian Unity. I also would like to see the Western Block Party be banned as well. I wish that all Quebec/Western Seperatist would leave Canada ASAP.

If the French Language and Culture can not survive in the Province of Quebec with out such discrimintory laws as Bill 101 (Charter of the French Language) and Bill 22 (Official Language Act) then it should not survive at all. Uh, no you fool. They don't speak French in Val D'Aosta, they speak francoprovenzale, which is different. The reason why the French language is official is because it was imposed by De Gaulle as part of the Italian-French peace treaty after World War II - another element of French oppression.

The Italian government - INDEED THE ITALIAN CONSTITUTION - provides that German is an official language in South Tyrol, that French is official in Val d'Aosta, and Friuliano in Friuli. This shows the direct opposite of oppression - that Italy respects its minority groups. Additionally, both Friuli and Val d'Aosta voluntarily are a part of Italy - not "forced." South Tyrol is ours via a peace treaty. Perfectly legitimate.

Italy actually has in place a restrictive policy in South Tyrol that actively favors the German population. There is affirmative action in favor of the German speakers, and the majority German province within Trentino Alto-Adige has been given unusual amounts of autonomy for an Italian province. As for "massive immigration" - this is also false. The German-speaking population of Alto-Adige has actually increased in recent decades, not fallen.

She then switched to english and asked him what language is he speaking. He told her he was speaking chinese. She then asked in a snarky voice "Why do you assume i can speak Chinese?". You are only HALF RIGHT. The Province of Ontario does have English as an Official Language but when you said that the Province of Quebec has French as an Official Language you are dead wrong. The Province of Quebec under the Constittuion Act of 1867 has BOTH English and French as Co-Official Languages. Bill 22 (Official Language Act) and Bill 101 (Charter of the French Language) are Illegal in my oppion and must be abolished and English restored as an Equal Language to French.

The Quebec Act of 1774 Establishes 2 sets of Laws in the Province of Quebec and they are English Common Law and French Civil Law. I agree that this German guy does not know what he is talking about and I recognize French Civil Law just as much as I recognize English Common Law in Quebec. The Quebec Act of 1774 gives French Canadians the right to Speak French, to Attend the Catholic Church and to obey French Civil Law for Personal Matters.

I do support the Re-Unification of the Province of New Brunswick, Province of Prince Edward Island and the Province of Nova Scotia and calling this union the Province of Acadia. The Province of Acadia should have both English and French as Co-Official Languages (Government, Courts, Buisness, ect). I believe that some French Quebecois should migrate to this Province of Quebec to strenghen the French Acadian Population if this happens and keeps the community strong in Acadia.

Well an Anglo-Quebec Politican by the name of Neil Cameron who was Member of the Legislative Assembly of Quebec (I will not call it the National Assembly) for Jacques-Cartier proposed replacing Bill 101 (Charter of the French Language) with his Bill 199 (Charter of the French and English Languages). Unlike Bill 101 which made French the Sole Official Language of the Province of Quebec. Bill 199 made both French and English as the Co-Official Languages of the Province of Quebec.

Unfortunately, It will not happen.... those that moved on to the Quebec identity (now something like 40 years old), has made so by divorcing themselves from the rest of French Canada.
You could increase French service tenfold in the rest of Canada and quebec separatists would not care, you could have an immigration policy to have more french speakers in the west, and quebec separatists would still not care.
Nothing would make quebec society as a whole want to adopt official bilingualism

A large and powerfull Anglo-Quebec populaiton will be able to stop the likes of the Parti Quebecois from being voted in. I don't know if the best strategy for francophones outside quebec is to protest directly against quebec sovereignists.
I think what french Canadians can do, is try to rebuild bridges with them so they once again feel a sence of belonging to Canada as a whole.
Buy building a new identity, they have thrown out one the most legitimate part of their identity. but it was their choice.
Do not forget, 1 million so called quebecers are actually of acadian origin, what happens if that group wakes up?

I believed that the British and Canada were very inclusive and very tollerant of the French Canadians. The British gave French Canadians the Quebec Act of 1774 which gave them Rights over Language, Religion and Law. The British also created the Constittuion Act of 1867 which states that both English and French are Official Languages of Canada and Quebec. Do you think the French would have given British Americans a Quebec Act of 1774 if they Won and the British Lost the War.

Speaking of Acaida. I support the restoration of Acadia by combining the Provinces of New Brunswick, Prince Eward Island and Nova Scotia and calling it the Province of Acadia. So the Dominion of Canada can have 2 Bilingual English-French Provinces and 2 Sister Provinces (Quebec and Acadia). The Capital City of the Province of Acadia should be Halifax because it is the largest Citiy in either New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island and Nova Scotia.

Bilingualism in New-Brunswick passed because 34% of New-Brunswickers were the Acadians, and it was not easy to implement it.
In Nova-Scotia and PEI, the english are full of warm feeling for the firsts settlers which were the Acadians. However, those feelings are easy because Acadians there form 1 to 4% and located in the fringes geographically.

Reguarding the British treatment of the Acadians. I know that the British did not treat the Acadians very well and burned their homes and deportated them from Acadia to Louisiana and I believe this is wrong and shamefull, but the British only expelled the Acadians for not showing alliegance to King George II and loyaty to Great Britian after it was conquered and not because they were French people. We must also remember that the French massacred British American Communities too.

I mean people were subject of kings and queens... you are slaves in fact... but acadien were there negociating... they were in fact democrats at a time when this was impossible.
Not alot of people realise that in fact the Acadian signed an oath of allegiance..... but a conditional one, they had obtained some exemptions, but....

..when war got worse, the English came to the Acadians, and demanded a TOTAL COMPLETE oath, Acadians wanted to remain neutral and wanted to continue with a conditionnal oath that would mean they would not have to Fight and kill Micmacs and Canadians (now uebecers).
That is how the English got they chance to deport the French Neutrals (Acadians) and fill the land with Protestants (from England and Germany).
Back then, also,it was more about Catholic-Protestant, less about the language part.

The Acadians were in a rock and hard place with being forced to sign their oath to allegiance to King George II, even though they were treated quite badly by the British in a way they were more lucky then they think. The British could like any Conqeoring power could have exterminated the Acadian people like how the Spanish did to the Indians in Cuba and Puerto Rico but did not. Had another power came along this is what they might have done.

I have much sympathy with the Acadian people. My ancestors were British American Loyalists who fought against the Treasonous Rebels "Patriot's" and they fought for King and Empire in the Revolutionary War (1775-1783) and after the War, my ancestors had to fllee New England into the British Province of Quebec (1763-1791) with just the clothes on their backs and they were very wealthy people and we never recovered our wealth. A mob tried to kill my ancestors when they fled.

We know the loyalist story pretty well, Most english from new Brunswick are either from Loyalist or Irish stock. They actually split Nova Scotia in two to create a province for the loyalist (New Brunswick), during all that time, Acadians we living in the wilderness on the New Brunswick territory, it just took some time for us to affirm ourselves as a co-founding member of New Brunswick under the banner of equality, since we were there all along.

My Loyalist Ancestors did not flee to the Province of Nova Scotia but to the Province of Quebec. My Loyalist Ancestors came from Boston and set up shop in Quebec City and Montreal.
I have never agreed with the seperation of the Province of New Brunswick from the Province of Nova Scotia, I have always believed that the Maritime Provinces (Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island and New Brunswick) should have remaind united and a single Province which should be called Acadia.

I support deporating all Quebecois Seperatists back to the Republic of France and to the State of Louisiana in the United States of America. I also support the Anglo-Quebec populaiton to be increased from 7.8% to 24.3% of the Province's population, 13.2% to 61.2% of Montreal's populaiton and 1.5% to 43.5% of Quebec City's population. It's time to abolish Bill 101 (Charter of the French Language) and replace it with Bill 199 (Charter of French and English Languages).
RESTORE ENGLISH IN QUEBEC.

Look, I think we live in a very fractured country, but we also live in a free and tolerant one. I'd rather we be split up rather than assimilate the French, Lord Durham. Bilingualism is important (having to learn French is better than when we used to teach latin), and multiculturalism is more than a dirty commie phrase. By the way, did you call the 50s more democratic then now? When neither first nations, the chinese, or blacks had the right to vote? Please.

If the French Language and Culture can not survive in the Province of Quebec with out such discrimintory laws as Bill 101 (Charter of the French Language) and Bill 22 (Official Language Act) then it should not survive at all. Assimiliating French Canadians into Anglo-Canadian Society and Anglicising the Province of Quebec would not be a bad thing. Both the Dominion of Canada and it's Province of Quebec would be more happier, united, peacefull, etc if the French Language disapeared in Quebec.

Look, as a half Quebecer I suppose I'm biased to think that what you think is odious. You must think that the First Nations who have had their cultures wiped out are much happier now, right? Of course not, that's ridiculous. Before Quebec's awakening in the 1960s, the province was largely anglo-dominated, so Bill 101 only asserts the will of the majority AGAINST an imposing minority. And OF COURSE assimilation is a bad thing. Everyone knows that.

The British gave more rights to French Canadians then any other conqueor would have done to a conquered people. The French imposed the French Language on the mainly German populaiton of Alsace-Lorraine after WW1 and almoust completly destroyed the German Language. German is a very tiny minority in Alsace-Lorraine now and French is Supreme. Dont give me crap about the Anglo-dominenated persecuion on the Franco-Quebecois majority.
