One problem I see in this amp. In order to break it you have to play at an unbearable high volume unless you use a pedal. I have a Super Reverb 65 reissue with the same problem. You break it with volume over 5, and with volume over 5 you wont hear your drummer.
@Metafonk not true, the tone controls also control the volume so if you turn the volume to 10 you can turn the treble bass and mids down and you will hear nothing. then you slighty increase each until you get the tone you want , break up at low levels. Also, what you said isn't true anyway, I think people that always play with their guitar volume on 10 have that problem. You put the amp volume high and use you guitar knob to control the break up.
@killfuckyou8769 You're right. I have a Vibrolux that sounds killer. My 1963 Gibson Falcon with reverb and tremelo sounds better than this amp! And I only paid $75.00 for it.
@televibrolux I doubt it, look up reviews from people that ACTUALLY OWN this amp and you'll see that it's a modern day classic. Many consider it to be THE best Fender amp currently in production.
Can you hook the VK 212 B speaker enclosure to a super reverb? the manuel say somethin about 2 and 4 ohms but i dont get it....i just want it louder....yes i know i know super reverbs are already loud but whats wrong with louder ? ;)
I was a day late but not a dollar short to buy one of these used at the Marietta, GA Guitar Center about 5 years ago. It was in decent shape and marked at about $600. I came back the next day to get it, and it was gone. :(
I ended up getting another Fender I liked for a little more but I really lamented not landing one of these.
lucky americans!!!this amp costs 3500 usd in usa..but in my country, greece, it costs arround 4500 euros (which is 6426 usd!!)..nice amp and nice review btw :D
I bought an older Vibro King with these great blue Eminence speakers. It has a much richer and warmer sound than todays VKs with Jensens. It's the perfect Amp. I've sold my long time favorite early 70s Twin Reverb with two original JBL D120F... because the VK sounded so much better. It takes all kind of guitars and also all kind of pedals. Buy it if you can. And try to find one ore more blue Eminence speakers or weber pendants to built in. The Jensens are a shame in that great peace of gear.
What is the difference in the old Vibro Kings and the newer ones???? Why is this one $3,500 and the older ones (even in great condition) so much cheaper??? Are they different????
I played that amp a couple of times in a recording studio.
It's an incredible piece of equipment.
YouTube should STOP converting down such a low quality 125 kbps 44.1kHz, specially when it comes to demos of musical instruments and equipments, it's a real SHAME.
See, no matter how great the demo may be, the result is just so poor that you can't have the slightest idea of the reality.
In my opinion Fender's best amp. A nice warm, clean tone that's not harsh. The Custom Fender Strat's nice sounding too, giving off a smooth, concise tone. In comparing Tweed and tolex amps I have to say this tolex is the best hands down but some tweed amps aren't too bad either, given their unmuffled, sound but don't have quite the clean tone as this Vibro-King that I presume is brand new. However, I do have to knock Fender on their bottom-tier amps. I think they are a disgrace to the name.
My VK(1994) is much much louder than this one. Run up the volume to 8, with the extension cabinet and you're playing in an arena with the Fat Switch On. But here's a 'trick', turn all the tone controls down to 1 and put the volume to 10, then use the bass tone control to set the volume and season to taste with treble and mid. to dial in the drive.
Great demo - but it still can't do this amp justice. Vibro King = Best Guitar Amp Ever. You can get an amp that sounds different but none sound better. I even run my acoustic guitar in to my VK It's the best acoustic amp ever, too. Anyhow, great demo - Andy's a library of classic licks.
@mshibatani - Considering the amps versitility, quality, & the fact that it's most likely a one time purchase given proper maintainence, I don't see how it's too expensive .If you gig,it should pay for itself & it's a write off .No simulator approaches its tones. I don't have a pile of money hence, I need the best my cash can buy. VK for my Fender tones&a Metro for my Marshall tones. Some would call this pricey. I call it smart value. I'm not chasing, I have needs. It saves me money in the end
I have a Fender Twin (just prior to the release of the Cyber Twin). I have always loved the warm tube sound, and I think there is no substitute, especially the tube tremolo. Mine does not have vibrato, unfortunately, so I have to use a Boss TR-2, but it is kind of hissy as solid state tends to be.
Just purchased a slighly used Vibro King in Blond Toltex! Definitiely the best fender Amp now made. I aslo own original Fender Black Faces including, 65 Delexe Reverb, 65 Princeton Reverb and a Vibrolux! The Vibro King is the most versaile and best picking dynamics! Breaks up nice with overdrive/distortion pedals and has the best Reverb Section you ever heard!
haha yea Im in high school saved up my lunch money for a year worked 2 summers now. and I can finally afford one haha.. but I'm on the fence between the vibro king and a victoria golden melody any suggestions? opinions?
@lefte18 Save for College. lol. But yeah, I have the cash too and I'm in high school, but then I realized, If I saved that cash, then got a real high job because of college, I could get this and a new guitar. Wait for more later, or still get something good now, up to you, but if between the two amps, vibro king.
@guitarsurfer1 Or a Job and you save a few bucks and buy one after saving the money.........or a Gig that pays $200 a night and you save a few gigs and buy one.
Exactly, i hate people who assume you are spoiled or rich because you have nice gear. Some people work really hard and save every last penny to buy gear.
Iv'e had my Vibro-King for about OMG 12 years! How can that be? I adore this amp, it not only sounds georgious, particularly for the blues, but its such a workhorse
Plugged into one today. Buying one immediately. Simply cannot believe how great these are!!!! Video does not do these justice. You must plug in yourself. To my ears, the best amp I have ever heard.
i use this amp as my main gigging amp. by far the best amp i've owned. it's great for low volume gigs using a real clean tone and is plenty loud for any indoor or outdoor gig. the break up around 5 is awesome! the only pedals i use are a crybaby and a fulltone mosfet. if you are patient and look hard you can find a used one for 1000 bucks. (that's what i paid for mine after months of searching).
I have this amp.. I can tell you this, the amp sounds like a different amp from the volume 4-5 and up, it breaks up real nice and it is loud, take my word on this. LOUD. I wouldnt recommend anyone to get this amp unless they have the capability of playing loud.
DAMN that sounds good. I personally would rather get the '57 Twin Amp, but it's all good. Any of Fender's top-shelf guitars and amps are superior products. But since I can't afford any of them I should just shut up.
By the way Andy, please tell me you're wearing earplugs in these videos. Hearing loss is NOT worth it - I learned the hard way.
I have a Marshall JCM-800, Mesa Boogie MKIIC+ and a Vibro King - I love them all but if I had to take one to a gig - hands down the Fender VK - best all-around amp, good power, great tone and versatile - you can almost paly anything with it especially if you have a pedal board with all your goodies - only two things I don't like 1. Amp is heavy all hell and unbalanced weight wise 2. The tremelo is crappy to me..
Twins are clean clean and clean(except perhaps the 57 reissue?). The VK is only clean at lower volumes, dirties up at around 4 on mine--and what beautiful dirt it is...
Not sure how Andy is handling the volume setting at 8 1/2 without using the 'master volume' trick, a great feature of the VK...
