Let's face it, Wolves City Centre is a dive! Having said that, I came here thirty-one years ago from a very comfortable existence in the home counties, and I wouldn't go back there even if you paid me.
Why? Because midlanders are so much more open and friendly than southerners; people here have got the time of day for you, which is a damn sight more than you can say for those in the south of England.
No council seems to get that the shoppers with money want to come in by car and the city centre isn't car friendly. Parking is too expensive and other shopping centres draw people in with free parking.Even if you do want to travel by bus they keep digging up the bus station and that means pavements get crowded with queues making it a pain. The cities fine but the various different councils all seem clueless and don't look after the traders so it's gotten a lot of closed shops.
I don't think Wolves is an especially pleasant place to live and I've lived all over the UK. It needs a lot of investment. It seems to have become more and more run down over the decades that I've lived here. There's not a massive amount of things to do and see here beyond the shopping/drinking. That said, hopefully it'll get better.

I grew up in Wolves then moved to London in 1976 where I lived for 20 years in 4 different areas. I moved back here 10 years ago and believe me - the quality of life is so much better here than in London. I still have to drive down their a couple of times a year - and it's getting worse there by the day. Traffic is a nightmare, parking (if you can find a space) is expensive, and to rent a 2 bed flat (no garden) is around £1200 a month - forget about buying! Wolves everytime for me!

@UptownYardy it was a good few years ago them shops got boarded up because one shops bricks and slates nearly fell on passes by its a right eye saw now i wish they'd knock nettos down but the benefits place as a disability section thing there one good thing that i liked about nettos is lol its Scandinavian 4 de value i had to get it in bus stops are littered every were at the moment its chaos they only did it up a few years back what a waste of tax payers money

Did you know the traffic lights in the first minute of the video were the first automatic traffic lights in england, thats why they're painted black and white stripes like the old style. the church is also the oldest building in wolverhampton. just some facts you could have put in your tour.

It's funny looking at people either insult or defend Wolverhampton. It's either shitty or it's "not that bad". I was born here, but will be moving once I finish up my degree in a couple years.
I don't feel the need to insult it, nor to defend it. It honestly makes no difference to me. It's a nice size and contains all the things I need. I keep my horses about 3-4 miles from the town centre down off of the tettenhall road. So really, it isn't all bad.

Wolves isn't a shi*hole at all. Compared to a lot of places in England it's a great place to live. Everything you could ever need is right here in Wolves. I'm a wolves lad and proud of it. An all the derelict buildings?? Whats that about, if you walked around you would see that the whole city is been renovated, wolves is on the up :-)

Wolverhampton is a horrible place to live, Half of wolvs is abandoned with derelict buildings, there is Little work prospects unless you like factory life.
Nightlife is rubbish unless your a chav. There is no real countryside for miles.
I just think that wolvs is a boring average town, with nothing new or innovative ever happening. A place were senile old people should go to die. Its just so grey, so dull and so boaring. Most of the people who live here have never left the place.

I studied in Wolves for a while. It seems to me that sometimes people can be too negative or alternatively; too defensive of any given city. Wolverhampton has a number of good things to offer but also has its share of problems.
All i remember is the drunken fights, followed by more drunken fights! Followed by racist abuse! The availability of good skunk made it bearable!....Just!

We've decided to settle in California but will make a point to visit the UK at least once every year or two. I have to admit, I really miss the place (and people) sometimes!!

Oh I'm back in the bay area, California!! I filmed this at least a couple of years ago now - can't believe it's been that long. I've heard the place has changed somewhat. I did visit the uni and SU quite a lot while I was there though, had some really fun nights out at the SU.

wolves I acutally miss it at the moment as I spent about 16-17 years living there (basically grew up there). The Vairsty I remeber. The one way you pointed was where if you walked far enough down you would have ended up at the ol lighthouse cinema and go into heath town.

I prefer heading to Walsall and Birmz caus at least there I can gurantee I can find what I want in da shops.
Now that the bus station is closed for redevelopment, da city centre seems even more hectic.

Wolverhampton is a horrible place to live, Half of wolvs is abandoned with derelict buildings, there is Little work prospects unless you like factory life.
Nightlife is rubbish unless your a chav. There is no real countryside for miles.
I just think that wolvs is a boring average town, with nothing new or innovative ever happening. A place were senile old people should go to die. Its just so grey, so dull and so boaring. Most of the people who live here have never left the place.

I studied in Wolves for a while. It seems to me that sometimes people can be too negative or alternatively; too defensive of any given city. Wolverhampton has a number of good things to offer but also has its share of problems.

Because it was my first couple of weeks in Wolves and I didn't know my way around. The video was made for my friends back here regardless. And of course I talked about food, it's so different and the major thing I noticed on my first couple of weeks there. Cheers for your input :)

Cheers! Yes I met some wonderful British people the year I live in the UK. In fact, the Brit in the video is now my fiance and we're getting married in 3 months. We've decided to settle in California but will make a point to visit the UK at least once every year or two. I have to admit, I really miss the place (and people) sometimes!!

Well, I had just arrived from California and all that walking around was tiring me out! I used to live about Revolution Bar, it was so much fun! I meant to go back and film some more but I just never got around to it and now I'm 5000 miles away so it'll be awhile before I get the opportunity.

Oh I'm back in the bay area, California!! I filmed this at least a couple of years ago now - can't believe it's been that long. I've heard the place has changed somewhat. I did visit the uni and SU quite a lot while I was there though, had some really fun nights out at the SU.

i live in wolves i must admit it was ok at first but is now becoming just as dangerouse as birmingham.there have been a few shootings around me and also where i work,the road is often cornered off after shootings and stabbings.

wolves I acutally miss it at the moment as I spent about 16-17 years living there (basically grew up there). The Vairsty I remeber. The one way you pointed was where if you walked far enough down you would have ended up at the ol lighthouse cinema and go into heath town.

As someone who lives in the Midlands, I can personally say that there is nothing wrong with an American pointing out what a dump Wolverhampton is. Regardless of which country you are from, turds smell the same in any nose.
I'd personally like Wolverhampton to be struck off the list of Black Country areas. It gives us a bad name. It's like Triblinka without the work-ethic.

Sometimes when you looked out of our kitchen window you could see Chavs peeing in puddles. Unpleasant. Anyway, I took that video when I first moved over form sunny California, completely different than what I was used to. I ended up living in Wolves for 6 more months after I shot the vid and I have to admit, the ole place kinda grew on me.

Yeah this video must be really old, it has changed quite a bit now and i've never seen that TK Maxx sign outside O_O TK Maxx is inside the Wulfren not outside... I didn't see either of the two GAME stores either, what's up with that? They're the two best stores there lol. Also i don't appreciate the American girl calling Wolverhampton a dump, it's not as nice as other places like Birmingham or London, but it's definately not dump, i've seen far worse places *cough* Walsall, Bilston *cough*
