  • When an artist writes and sings a song about the grief,

of losing his mother ,you can feel the pain and hurt in the song ,

such a beautiful yet sad song I feel !!

  • I scrolled through some comments, and a lot about Jesus. Yet, no one said a thing this is a song about Bono's mother. She died at her own father's funeral, this is a song about him grieving.

  • One of the truly GREAT songs U2 ever did. It's a shame that more people don't know about it.

  • fantastico...irripetibile..

  • E' uno dei pezzi meno famosi degli u2, ma è in assoluto tra i più belli. da piangere

  • the edge's solo from 4.00? amazing

  • tomorrow never knows

  • This is unbelievable!!! Magnificent!!!

  • Thumbs up for 2011 :)

  • Bello,bello,BELLO !!!!!!

    Great !!!!!

  • Man, this forgotten U2 song is amazing! And whoever made this video did an awsome job too!

  • @jmrolltide12

I did it. Thanx man :)

  • I like Garage days U2. Simply music worth listening too. First three albums are the best.

  • Love this song...great video too! First Christian album I ever bought!

  • best christian album ever

  • One of U2's many hidden masterpieces.

  • Utterly beautiful song-Thank you so much for putting this on here :-)

Wish I could listen to all my old albums, but they're all on vinyl, along with a few singles/EPs

  • que dieu vous bénisse

  • @ Daniel - I agree; this song is so powerful; it definitely puts me on edge when I hear it; my mother passed away when I was a young chap, and that was one awful day when it took place. I hope very much to see my Mom again too. Well, thank you U2 for such a moving song.

  • Best Band Ever

  • I dont appreciate how this song made me sad, then kind of happy at the end... NOT COOL!!

  • Love it! Thanks

  • goose-bumps everytime I listen... undoubtedly the best U2 album - October

  • Open up, open up

    To the lamb of God

To the love of he who made

    The light to see you

    He's coming back

    He's coming back

    I believe it

    Jesus coming

  • u2 please play slane again some time soon

  • from ireland with love..

  • This is the first album that Basque freedom fighters in the North of Spain and Southern France (Euzkadi) started listening to. It still symbolises for me the deep cultural ties between S-F and H-B. For many of us there will always be a black car parked by the side of the road like the angel of death hovering to take our beloved sons to a torture session, a jail or extra-judicial execution. There can be no peace without social justice, armour will not be turned in to ploughshears just yet.

  • OCTOBER. Best album they ever did. Just my opinion. Maybe it's just a personal thing. I still love this album and never tire of listening to it.

  • @nixon68 Do you wanna know a funny thing? The album was released the year I was born. It's called october, the month I was born, and it's got 11 songs, the day I was born. It is also my favourite album!!!

  • @Ferrpa81 So you were born at October 12th?

  • @nixon68 I agree.

  • @nixon68 me too every song has something

  • Vi Amo e basta !

  • xxx

  • If You like Irish rock like this, We are an american band with a singer born in County Tipperary Ireland and we want to share our music with You. Go to our channel here by clicking on the blue word to Your left and tell us what You think- Mike and Eric, Summer and Lightning

  • I agree very deep song reminds me of running around in my old army jacket in the 80s trying to work life out!!!!

  • Great song, very very touching.

  • THE most intense U2 song by far, on the best U2 album

  • @hennyV01 Fur years' I've said October best album[ lot of opposition over that one] seen tomorrow done live first time [NYC 3-17-82]

  • THE most intense U2 song by far, on the best U2 album

  • oh my fuck god

  • let it go, let it go, let it go, let it go

  • Wow! Cool video!

  • It's playing in the future?

  • October is so strange compared to all the others. Good record.

  • This album was more of a spiritual album,

  • One of the best songs of this band.. It remembers me old times..

  • a very emotive sound. A great song.

  • un tuffo al cuore

  • the 1996 version is ALOT better I think.

    I`m off 2 find it! :-)

  • @Tiza123m in what way can that version possibly be better than this, if i want to go to sleep i'll listen to that, this is so intense and moving

  • Fantastic song, and October is so underrated the album is huge and i love the feeling and texture of it, even though it was apparently rush due to bono losing the lyrics to all the songs. One of those songs that can stir emotions in you.

  • quite possibly my favourite u2 song

  • I love this song....

  • ♥♥♥♥

  • this song is so wonderful, and gives me strength, and i headr it is about his father dieing, but either way, it gets my day going....

  • @christina812bugs his mother!

  • It's funny that you guys don't comment about U2 but Christianity. Hello, guys, no use fighting. One day, the truth will be revealed. That day, we will all also be unfit to talk any nonsense anymore

  • listen my friends listening...u2 are perfect...this song make my happy...when im going to my work i hear that song and day is much bether...only u2 cant do this...we wait for you in coimbra portugal 2 and 3 october 2010 360 tour

  • That acoustic guitar is nice not enough of that in their recent music

  • Still giving me the goosebumps.....great Irish rocksong!

  • I love this song October was my first U2 album and this song still stirs me. Great lyrics and builds up such great momentum in the song, i consider it one of there most underrated songs. Ive seen U2 live about 9 times and never heard it played live i think it would have made a good closer.

  • People, the song is about Bono's mother dying and her funeral in particular.

"There's a black car parked at the side of the road" etc

  • Wake up and smell the coffee - he's not coming back because he was never here in the first place, except in the minds of sad, delusional people, for whom life wasn't enough! God is nothing more than the product of man's imagination. Sorry guys!

  • @killerdalek Jesus is a real historical person. There are other historical sources besides the Bible (the works of Josephus) that attest to that fact. If you don't believe His claims so be it - but don't say that He was not real. That's like saying other historical figures are not real just because you never saw them.

  • @superion72 My point was that Jesus is dead. He was not the son of God, nor was he God the son, or sun! He was, if he existed at all, just a man, and now he is dead. So that's the end of it. God does not exist other than in some delusional minds.

  • Comment removed

  • @superion72 Exactly! He was a PERSON and not a god! Therefore, the deity to which you refer does not exist, even if there was a bloke called Jesus. He was just a bloke - not god the son and not the son of god!

You have never seen Jesus, and you never will!

  • @killerdalek Who are you trying to convince? Me or yourself?

  • @inferion72 You, but I've decided that you're a goner, so I won't bother any more.

  • @killerdalek He was fully God and fully man. (John 1). The Word became flesh and dwelt among us. Jesus also said "when you have seen me, you have seen the Father".

  • @lisamarie656 And because that's written down, it must be right, right?

  • @killerdalek just look at thefufillment of prophecies, for example the re-birth of Israel and the return of the Jewish people back to the promised land, you can trust the authority of the scriptures.

  • @VESPVESP Bollocks! Anyway, if there really is a promised land, that ain't it pal! Israel is a tiny shit hole in the worst possible place!

  • @killerdalek so ends our intelligent discussion!

  • @VESPVESP Amen

  • @killerdalek even Josephus the historian wrote about jesus & the crucifiction. you ignoramus.

  • @alphahydranoid1000 You believe in myths and hes the ignoramus! You myth believers crack me up! People wrote about Zeus too, does that make him real!

  • @johnottr jesus a myth? he spilt time!!!

  • @alphahydranoid1000 The only time he split is in your myth believing head. And besides, what educated person still uses BC AND AD. It is now BCE AND CE. Where have you been?

  • @johnottr regardless of what you call it today, he still split time. and gives hint of different time zones. when he spoke of his return he states some will be in the field while others some asleep.

  • @alphahydranoid1000 If he meant anything to you, you would write his name with a capital J, like you did for the historian friend of yours!

  • Although your video is well done it doesn't really fit the song in my opinion(The Macphisto clip threw it way off). Bono sings this song better than he ever sang any song probably because it is straight from his soul. Nothing better than that.

  • @pipperoooo What's a soul? I know what a brain is, and I know what a mind is, but a soul? Do you mean sole? Did he sing from his boots?

  • very very very forever very

  • I am listening to October again, an album that dissapointed many including me when i first listened to it i guess we were all expecting Boy 2 back then. I think i only now actually get October and realise it is a masterpiece.

  • @misterlypton better late then never ;)

  • @misterlypton when i first heard this album i was blown away. i like it best besides war.never thought about boy.why this album is insane.

  • Legend

  • This song really renewed my faith when I was at a low point. I find it incredible that more amazing musicians can't write music of faith, whatever faith. Put down anger or sadness to music, but to the banner of faith, and we'd have so much more to enjoy. Most 'faith' bands are lame as hell. Faith in the human spirit is well entrenched in rock. Let's not be afraid to proclaim faith in and love for our maker and saviour, whatever religion. Just make it rock.

  • @mongo88now88 -please check out non lame faith bands like tree 63-----the benjamin gate-----gs megaphone----the newsboys----phil keaggy---bob dylan 1979 to 1981-----petra "beyond belief cd"

  • God I Love U2!!!

  • One of my faouvrite songs now. Thank you for the video. Great fusion of early U2 song and concerts, especially ZOO TV, which is one of the best shows. You did work like Bono sang this song really. Thanks again.

  • My father has passed some time ago, and, fate's irony (or not) I cam across this song from U2 and the story behind it. Whenever I listen to it gives me the most intense emotions, tearing me on the inside - regretting and the wishing that my father would come back tomorrow but also strength, courage and a desire to succeed, knowing that I still have his love and that someday I'll see him again. God bless U2 - a trully noble rock band...

  • @DanielGheorghiu sorry about youre dad mate ! but just keep listenin to u2 as i have been doin all my life theres no other band like them and never will be again songs like "one " all i want is you " "bad" and drowning man just bring tears to my eyes "going to paris in sept for my 13th u2 gig cant wait " good luck pal"

  • @DanielGheorghiu I am envious in a way that you feel this way about your father. I wish, truly, truly wish I could share the same sentiment.

  • awesome job man!

  • a great song ...

  • Awesome job with the edit!

  • sorry about ur mum

  • Excellent job.

  • October has been with me most of my life. I listen to it at least once a week. As good now as ever!

  • nice.

  • omg! memories.. tears in my eyes now.. how is difficult for me! i never forget you, dear mother.. i love u

sorry for my sad, friends of utube..

  • One of the most powerful songs by U2. Blows me away all the time.

  • lovethis U2 song :) (L) . Bono is a nice man x

  • It starts like Editors - Escape the nest.

  • bono tried hard to stop a young larry giving up.

  • Stop what ? What do you mean ?

  • larrys mum died shortly before bonos, which is why its poignant.

  • I just read on wiki that it's the contrary and not so short, Larrys died in november 78 and Bonos in September 74... But you're totally right about the poignant side, of course

  • no bono's mom died in 74, larry's died in 78

  • one of the best from the early days???? Sad song about bono's mother passing away at his grandfather funeral. October underestimated album?????

  • @leebedy71 I really like October one of their best. Better than Actung and No line imo. Bono is a great passionate singer here. I didn't know this was about his mum

  • @jpjames1

just so you know, bono's book of lyrics was stolen, and the group was forced to scramble and compose october in a mad dash... hardly the ideal situation

and also, saying october is better than achtung and no line is sheer lunacy - it was only their second album and saying it is better than their later and more mature works is moronic

you are clueless and have no idea what you are talking about

  • @jpjames1

october was the least critically acclaimed of *all* of U2's albums.

and not only that - the fans happen to agree - october consistently is at the bottom of album favorites listings

    get a clue pinhead.

  • That doesn't matter. It's an opinion. What the majority of the fans and the critics think isn't important, unless you're a follower and not a free-thinker.

    Grow up a bit.

  • @shtstirrer It's one of the least known U2 LPs. It came out long before the band became a megaband (1981). Least known = least favourite (simple logic) I discovered them around 1984 when "In The Name of Love" hit the charts.

    Go troll somewhere else.

  • @Frostybeard, yet so many U2 fans prefer the pre-UF era U2, pre-1984 U2. There's a certain 'soul' character and music quality that the very early U2 has that hasn't been since. And yes, as it should be, that's evolution. But still.....

  • @shtstirrer, you're a typical sheister with your name calling pinhead remarks

  • I don't think that's fair to say. Just because someone doesn't share your views doesn't mean they're moronic. It's his opinion, and it happens to mine as well. October is my favorite U2 album because it helped me through a really bad period in my life. It's very personal to me. Does that make me a moron?

    Your comment was very immature.

  • Don't know why you got a thumbs down on this one. October is by far my fave. Very emotional and majestic album. They've never put out anything more personal than October.

  • @TidesWillTurn I totally agree... October is by far my fav. album too... timeless!

  • @TidesWillTurn I agree, you know this was very much a spiritual album, as this song truly demonstrates. I personally believe they were closer to God at the time of this album.

  • @TidesWillTurn I agree, you know this was very much a spiritual album, as this song truly demonstrates. I personally believe they were closer to God at the time of this album.'probably why it's very much an overlooked album.

  • This beautiful song was written by Bono about his mother after she died in the 40's.

  • In the 40's ? Am I understand this wrong ? Because Bono was born in 1960.

  • Ooooops. i meant to say that she was in her 40's.

  • Comment removed

  • great song. im not sure the video really suits the music though. this song was written by bono for his mom on her death.

  • Nice cut!

  • great song

  • love the song favorite U2 song love it

  • I guess I won't get any comments from my ex-girlfriend on this song... very bad

  • why?

  • aaaaah yes, back when they were 4 Irish lads.

  • MASTERPIECE...from great album....

  • extreme y do u go on every u2 video and say u2 wrote miami?beat it u tool if u aint commenting on the actual song

  • U2 in the 80s is best. The ironic thing is nobody really knew who they were at this time apart from the select fans. When they become mainstream it wasn't as good

  • What a beautiful song....this was 1 of my favourites when I was little:)

  • The way Bono sings this song makes it sound like it hurts. I have not cried this much in a long time....

  • @WafflesandWhales I still can't listen to this song, more than fifteen years after I heard it for the first time. It makes me cry my heart and eyeballs out.

  • Ok, first off, what is wrong with being gay? secodnly, no I'm not a homosexual because i'm a girl. *sigh*

  • I think it's no big challenge to be be a girl and homosexual in one instance, is it?

  • @Hendriktm85 haha. sorry, what I meant was gay, not homosexual. But still that wasn't the point of the comment.

  • @WafflesandWhales -read the book or romans chapter one versus 24 through 28 in any popular version of the bible

  • Never heard this song before and I have been listening to U2 since the beginning. It's beautiful! How can I have missed it ?

  • Second album - October some good stuff on there like this one and Jerooooo saaaalem... :) check it out

  • Comment removed

  • Blade Runner!

  • october, boy, war, unforgettable fire, joshua tree- these albums were like religious experiences to me. gorgeous music!!!

  • Actually MIami is one of their more interesting songs. I'm sick and tired of hearing people saying "With Or Without You" " I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For" and "Beautiful Day" as their finest work.

  • couldn't agree more , those songs are all good , but i don't think any of those we're half as innovative as the songs on Achtung Baby or Pop or even No line on the Horizon. I think if anything Pop Shows that U2 was still a healthy band , trying new things , trying to innovate.

  • @extreme67 Why? With or without you is great song ..

  • It's a great song... But there are others that are really innovative and totally awesome. WOWY is kinda "instant classic". Listen to Achtung/Zooropa/Pop/NLOTH, there you have some experiment.

And there is no such thing as a "best U2 song". Many are awesomely great, everybody has his favourites... But their is no BEST song.

  • @Notalongthewall True, I think it's just up to the listener

  • shivers

  • Great, BUT those people who do not listen to U2 from the beginning won't figure out the meaning of that masterpiece.. yeah it's so expressive.

  • love it, im rediscovering U2. love this so much better than their new stuff :)
